Here it is then boys fill your boots, you deserve it.
I'm not 100% sure how we got to being such serious rivals but it cant be a bad one when both teams are almost equally matched with ability, passion and commitment.
Talk about de ja vu as we made our way onto the pitch the wind was blowing firmly in one direction and luckily again we had it on our backs for the first 45, As any team would look to do we aimed to make the wind a twelth player but to be honest it wasnt needed, fast paced start and some good football got us a free kick from the right, Spencer Clarke who has been in inspired form for a number of weeks now placed the ball down and whipped a sweet free kick directly into the heart of the area, where the ball had the pace taken off it and popped up in the air for Ryan Francis to head home from 4 yards past a onrushing keeper who missed the ball a flattened the young striker (not intentional) the ball looped over the keeper and in off the bar to put Eye one nil up with not many minutes gone, that was such a buzz and we pressed to capitalize on the lead and try to extend our lead (you cant sit back against war boys thiere paring up front Boucher and Miller are a force and cant be taken lightly).
the gae seemed to get a little scrappy but i think its because no one wanted to make a mistake and small errors were creeping into the game but neither side able to find a finish.
it was a very good battle in the middle of the park the two lads at Warboys heart were buzzin around lacking height but not skill, also some challenges as youd expect going in from all over the park.
War boys pressed us and they got what they deserved when a slight mix up from our centre backs allowed Miller to slide in between them both and drill the ball past Billy who stood little chance of saving the shot.
One each and its a test of character now, i think the lads on both team deserve praise for how they went about the remainder of the game both pushing for that goal wingers on both teams playing their parts, the defence also staying firm but the next break came from a past questioned subject... are keepers to protected?? the ball was either thrown or crossed in but the Warboys keeper came out to puch the ball off Lukes head, as Luke felt the keeper on his back he leaned forwards and the keeper with no one in front flapped and missed the ball and went over Luke hitting the deck if im honest i expected the ref to blow up as its just something i've come to get used to but no the ref said no foul and a very quick thinking Ryan Francis pulled off a smart Ronaldinhio esq pass while looking the other way passed it to Luke to pass the ball into the open net.
Personally i didnt think it was a foul but 9/10 times its a decision that would have been given to the keeper.
Two one up and i couldnt tell if it was joy or releif we all felt as we all celebrated the goal on one hand its a goal to put us in front but on the other we were the ones that got the break thru a second time and a little of the "i dont want to make a mistake" pressure was off.
Things were now starting to get a little heated out there and the ref one minute gave a free kick for a studs up tackle from Ebo on the Warboys right winger then 2 inutes later booked Ryan for the same sort of challenge only difference being Ryan got the ball in my opinion a very good challenge, then 30 seconds later Fenny rattled me with all his studs showing and the ref felt this was a good challenge... i told him i didnt agree :) but Fenny will tell you i deserved it for a tackle earlier on him that may have been a little too hot headed.
We didnt have the banter on here all season dor no reason and a ball played up to Ryan who for some reason was left one on one with the Warboys centre half and Ryan embarrassed him by strolling past him and sitting the keeper down who can im sure thought like the rest of us that the ball was going to be curled round him but instead was rolled into his near post and fired us up knowing we were going in at half time 3-1 up against our title rivals.
We tightened things up at the back and in the middle for the second half while still allowing Ryan and Luke all the room they needed up front. We got back to our normal game and began to play football on the deck against the wind with Dom and coxy working well together at the heart of our defence, Gus and Clive Brown providing the old heads (combined age of 74 i think) worked well with our Wingers Spenny who's control and skill with a dead ball have caused any teams to suffer and Leon-who was quiet but didnt put a foot wrong. Ebbo covering every blade of grass in the middle while picking out passes to wingers or utalising the flanks to relieve the pressure when we needed it. Billy in goal was having his normal moments that i have come to expect from recent weeks and the cross bar coming to our rescue on 2 occasions i believe from Boucher who was doing his best to be a royal pain in the 4ss for Dom and Coxy, Warboys left winger always looked like he was going to create a few problems (think he played up top against us last game) was pressing us back with direct running but for the first half hour of the second half we weathered the storm and the game seemed to me to be taking an age to end.
Unfortunately my day came to an early end :( along with Spencer Clarke but we were replaced by Deano Clarke and Glen who by the way with his first touch did his best to smash a wild kick to the War boys striker but lucky for him nothing came of it and he settled into the game.
All credit to the lads 3-1 down 10 minutes left they pushed us back and they got a step closer to a point when their captain and centre back who i dont think had his best game fired home a loose ball in the area from good pressure and he ran the full length of the pitch to celebrate this fired them up.
i couldnt shake it from my mind that knowing how good these lads are with 5 minutes to go this is one of them games that could easily swing with the spirit and Warboys had plenty still... all i can say is Billy your a star the left winger picked the ball up from 25 yards took a touch and hit a shot that looked unstoppable but looking like he had some springs in his boots Billy made a match winning save and thats what its all about.
We have had games this season were he hasnt had to make a save and even stood talking to a dog behind the goal at one game not so long ago (it was actually a K9 before anyone goes the wrong way with that) but when we needed him he showed why he deserved the number 1 shirt.
Eye ran the clock down as best they could and before we knew it game over 3 points in the bag 4 points clear at the top and in one hell of a possition to get promotion.
Its now gone from just wanting Promotion to wanting to finish TOP its nice to be able to think like that and i know some will think its not over yet and i totally agree its not but we have been so consistent all season and with 3 games left we are going to be a hard side to beat on this form.
I'd like to say thanks to all the lads and management for coming back for a drink and a chat.
I hope to play you boys again you owe us big now 2 defeats this season both to Eye both games banging 3 passed the best defense in the league i think we got the bragging rights for now lads.
All the best
