Just though I'd post a match report of the Under 18 Girls team I coach. We entered our first league this season, and although we have done, ok, we were without a competitive victory up until today. We played Chatteris, and the game was played in the right spirit. Had a comment from someone local who has been invloved a lot in football locally, and he said that these Girls 'played like it was a proper match, they passed, they marked and they didn't think twice about heading'. It's good to see these girls progress, and enjoy their football. THey have been together for about 15 months now, and have made serious improvement considering they had never played properly together before then, and some of our Girls have played even less. Anyway, enough rambling!

March Rangers 5 - 1 Chatteris Girls Under 18's

March Rangers put in an excellent display to move into the next round of the cup against Chatteris. Rangers got off to a strong start, and after several near misses debutante Jade Pointer ran onto a delayed Chloe Bates pass, and after holding of the Chatteris defender, she slotted home. Rangers continued to lay pressure on the Chatteris goal, but a rare counter attack was well finished off and the game was back level. Before half time the goal of the match was scored. Shereen Hutton broke free from the Chatteris defence, and her 30-yard shot caught the Chatteris keeper off her line.

Although March were on top, Chatteris always looked capable of equalising until Hannah Johnson gave Rangers a two-goal cushion when she was first to a loose ball in the penalty area. Kayleigh Dring soon made it 4-1 from close range after the Chatteris keeper parried a shot, her first of the season. Shereen Hutton rounded off the win late on after the Chatteris keeper again made a good block from the shot, but the ball still found itself in the back of the next. This was an excellent performance from the Rangers Girls to secure their first win in the Fenland and District Youth Soccer League.

Living out in the Fens you only hear about the Peterborough teams that are doing really well, so I'm not sure how many actual teams (under 18's/ladies) there are in the City of Peterborough + surrounding areas. If you know, feel free to post. Most of our girls are in their GCSE year, some are in year 10 and only 1 is 17 so they've still got plenty of time to learn.
