Would be interested to see what some people think about the standard between Comb 1 and Div 1?
With Moulton Res beating Long Sutton 3-2 on Saturday, already beating Sutton Bridge earlier in the season and now Whittlesey Res v's Coates coming soon, was wondering what some people thought.
Might be a post for those who have played in both Com Div 1 and Div 1 this season.

I wouldn't be surprised, I sometimes wonder if the league my reserves are in is tougher then the league our 1st team are in.

A difficult one to reply on Langtoft but from what I have seen and come up against, I feel that most of the Comb Div 1 teams would hold their own against Div 1 teams. Maybe the bottom few would struggle a bit.
But at the end of the day, you would expect Div 1 to come out on top against Comb 1 as, in theory, you would expect them to have more settled sides that a reserve team !!!!!!!!!

Think that since the leagues reformatting has put a massive gulf from prem to division 1. My opinion although slightly biased is combi 1 is stronger as many of the clubs such as ourselves, perkins res, moulton res, holbeech res etc..... used to play in higher leagues than many current division 1 clubs but because we have reserves after our name were out into the combination league. Many division 1 clubs would not be 1 step away from the prem without the league reformatting.
well with coates v whittlesey 2 weeks in a row will be a good example of two teams doing well in boh leauges cant be a 1 off either!!! should awnser the question!
I think that its wrong to have teams like Perkins, Fletton and Whittlesey in the same league.
I have used these teams only as an example because their reserves would probably be in the first division if they had kept it as it was.
The problem being it would lead to the problem the old mid anglia league had when the Railway had a team in the sunday prem finishing bottom every year and not going down because their reserves were in the first division and their reserve side winning division one every year and not being able to go up because their first team were in the prem.

Well that would be down to bad management wouldent it? if you had a team that was to good for the 1st but a team that wasent good enough for the prem shourley between the 2 they could manage a good prem team?

Your right maccaceltic
the league should never of reformatted in my opinion
see that is the problem though, I am not 100% sure but I believe the roumours at the time were that the first team did not want to go down and the reserves were happy to stay winning the league year after year and when finally the league did make them change they folded.
As I said not 100% sure bu I think it was something like that anyway.
Mick B may remember it as I think Broadgate were in the prem at the time.
The reason it was changed was to bring it line with the rest of the football league system was it not? I.e. Prem to our level.
As an idea, Why not have a pre/post season game between rep sides of both divisions. maybe Spec manage one and say Gino the other.
It could be an interesting game!

Not a bad idea, but no disrespect to Spec or Gino, but how many of the games in the 2 divisions do they watch????? Therefore, how would they be able to pick 2 teams?

I only used Spec and Gino as an example, could be the managers of say the top side in each division that way they would have seen most of the players throughout the year.

number 9, barrel, bluestar and all at whittlesey reserves, firstly i want to offer you my congratulations on 2 hard earned victories, 2 finals, and in my opinion, 1 more to come next weekend! This with your league success (well you can only chuck it away) will make for a season that you will probably never repeat! From the bottom of my heart, i hope you win all of the cups, obviously i can't concede the league yet, although the best i think we can hope for is 2nd! But i also want to wish Alex boss of our first team and his squad all of the best and i really hope for him that he gets the double, not just for all of the hard work he has put in, but also as this is the last season that the perkins name will be there! I am very sad about this, but want Alex ' to go out on a high' We've had our success over the last 2 years (and if the ET knew anything about sport, we would have won team of the year!) and it would be fitting for the Perkins name to end with a winners name on both the league and cup trophies! P.S anybody looking for a manger next season, you know where i am!!! PPS the way we have been playing, and missing chances, somebody was always going to be there on the wrong day, fr them unfortunatley it was Langtoft. i have to say their sportsmanship was top drawer to the end and i wish them all the best for the rest of the season!

Respect mate - and thanks for the kind words, and yes seasons like this one don't come along that often. We realise there is still lots of work to do, and we are taking nothing for granted, we know just what a tough team to beat you Perkins lads are so we will continue to take it one game at a time and see where that leads us.
Personaaly I think its going to be a very sad day for local football when Perkins finally call it quits at the end of the season, not least because they are the last of the great works sides that used to abound within the league and my guess is we won't see their like again which makes it even more poignant.
By the way mate if you are at a loss as to what to do next season give me a call, you have done a great job with Perkins Reserves and I would hate to see your expertise go to waste -
Still got you to play twice, looking forwards to catching up with you for a beer and a chat - enjoy the rest of the season mate.

Bluestar, your'e right, these seasons don't come along that often, but i believe that barel and yourself have got the boys in the right frame of mind. if you are feeling generous, you could give us the league in our last year!!!!! Looking forward to our 2 games, and the obvious beers that follow! Take care mate, see you soon!
Thanks for the positive comments Kenny, much appreciated.
We have a long and testing remainder of the season, and it may start to sound boring but I am looking no further that Long Sutton away on Saturday and continuing with the one game at a time mantra. The league is our priority but if we pick up a cup or two along the way then great!
As the season drawers closer because of our cup runs we will be playing 2, maybe 3 games a week which is a big test for the side but one which we will look to meet head on and look forward to!
See you in a few weeks, and Up the Villa!!!

we were robbed!
Not really we just gifted 3 1st half goals which lead to certain players giving up the ghost, along with totally missing some golden opportunities which nearly made me sick.
Learning very different lessons this season, theres always next year and I'm sure with the added experience and a few new faces we will do better.
