View Full Version : Whittlesey United vs Deeping Sports
WHITTLESEY UNITED RESERVES 3DEEPING SPORTS RESERVES 1Whittlesey returned to league action with a teriffic three points against Deeping Sports at the Manor. This was our first league encounter of 2008 and the lads were in determined mood to chalk up another three points, as we have a number of cup matches in the month of February. The first half was a tense affair with both teams having opportunities to open the deadlock. Deeping went close when former Whittlesey man Leigh Gale, whipped in a free kick that only needed the slightest of touches but was seen away by Whittlesey centre half Mick Gale. As the first half progressed Whittlesey cranked up the volume and should have gone ahead, firstly Hibbins was denied by a good save from the visiting keeper and then Heron had a shot cleared off the line by the visiting defender. As the half time whistle was blow the scores remained 0-0. The half time team talk was based around the lads picking the tempo up and continuing to battle as the goal was just around the corner if we picked things up.As the second half got underway the boys started well and it was early in the second half when an inswinging ball from Danny Baxter was excpertly volleyed home by frontman Micky Burch to make the score 1-0. Deeping had a chance to equalise when another former Whittlesey player Tim Gale found himself one on one with Fletcher in the Whittlesey goal but was kept at bay with a good save by the Whittlesey stopper.Whittlesey added a second when a wicked corner by Bobby Dart was powerfully headed home at the back post by centre half Micky Gale to make it 2-0. As the lads pushed forward for a third they left gaps at the back which were punished when Deeping reduced the arrears to 2-1 which sparked a frantic final few minutes. Deeping had shouts of a penalty for handball waved away in the dying stages and Matty Heron secured the three points when he nicked he ball off a visiting defender and rounded the keeper to make it 3-1 and put the game beyond doubt. So then another good win where the boys needed to be patient and wait for their opportunity, they battled well and although this was far from our most convincing performance of the season it was a satisfying one at that as the boys rolled their sleeves up to make certain of the three points. Today we encountered a very organised and resolute Deeping side who gave a good account of themselves. We now focus our attentions to next weeks re-arranged North Cambs Junior Cup QF against March Town Reserves.Regards, Barrel

was a indifferent game as i thought that we really dominated the game and limited them to no real efforts on goal untill the crazy 10 mins in which tim had his chance and the goal came.was very glad to score my first of the season as i missed a few id expect to put away now its time to keep sticking them in.i also would of felt gutted if the goal they got resulted in them getting somthing from the game as it came abiut by a couple of defending mistakes first the mix up between bob and paul, then i should of really slid the ball away but stood up. but three points on what was a difficult and heavy pitch yesterday and not real had many games of late so sure it will get cranked up in next few weeks ready for the cup games and the league run in.

Evening to you 2 mr Harley- regards stiring the pot mate not at all(maybe little bit)but 1 of me mate who plays for Coates will be leaving at the end of the season because of how munnsy runs the CLUB. Basically no matter how you play and what the ressie management think at Coates munnsy picks both teams.
Regards to roscoe comment again that's true from my reliable sources "theres no ar*ehole in the middle so they need Ross"
Who needs enemies when your manager slagging you of behind your back!

Nails u no coates surviving without munnsy is like an alcoholic surviving without alcohol-seems impossible, hard at first but strongger without it-ha ha
You no his job title just seems weird that a first team manager would leave his side in some1 elses hands to take control of the reserves cause its a big game.
Intresting to see how many other reserve managers would stand aside and let the first team manager run the team in big games?
Also how many first team managers would do such a thing?
Wots any other managers and players alike feelings on this?
I'll state mine now- I play for our gaffas, they no us n how we play and no disrespect to our first team boses but they have there own team.(hyperthetical wouldn't happen at Whittlesy )
Well No9 we are not a complete club like coates so i dont think we can pass judgement just yet in 14days time maybe but be aware of the firepower!!!:str:
