Now lets get to the point here, were a few minutes into the game and there was nothing between us... attack from War Boys and attack from eye saw us cancel each other out for 15 minutes (you could see war boys have something about them with the speed of their passing and movement) but duely matched by Eye, The first bit of entertainment came when Warboys forced their way into our area, as Billy rushed off his line Clive Brown (AKA Mighty Mouse, i will do you at mercy, na wot i mean) threw himself in front of the shot, he blocked it well but wrapped his knee around a cowering Billy rolled up in a ball tighter than Dean Clarkes wallet. We lost Clive due to this and he was replaced by an Eagre Lewis who takes 45 minutes to thaw out normally.
it wasnt long before the break thru a square pass from WB right winger allowed me to intercept the pass and slide a ball thru to Dean Clarke who checked his run very well and ran 10 yards before slotting home to put Eye 1-0 up.
At no point did we think this would be good enough as War Boys came at us with talented players all over the park, i particularly felt concerned with WB striker who managed to peel off our defence to collect the ball and make space for himself. But he foun himself crowded out almost every time by a pumped up Eye squad.
25 minutes into the half and we attacked down the left wing with excellent link up play by the Clarke brothers spen into Dean 1-2 and spence was free'd to pick out his pass, ebbo struk the shot fro Spencers cut back and it was well blocked by WB centre back, the ball span off the surface heading towards the right hand side of the area, i just got a toe to the ball and going away from goal, felt some contact and pulled off a 8.5 spring board effort. The whistle went and the ref pointed straight to the spot saying he saw 2 hands in the back.
This penalty was slotted away by ebbage who had so far won his personal battle in the middle of the park and this goal set Eye 2 clear.
Still working hard into the wind Warboys pushed and as expected with the wind on our backs we were able to counter attack as quickly as we liked.
Proving he is all the talent people say he is, Elsom took numerous kicks before receiving a free kick for his troubles which was taken quickly down the right, luke linked up with Glen to work their way past the full back, a pass came in and looked like it was going to be a chance for Dean to spin and shoot but the ever present attackinh midfielder Ebbo screamed (first time for everything) for dean to move and Ebbo curled an ecellent effort into the top corner. F*ckin get in! fantastic goal capped off an excellent half and Well done lads for taking full advantage of the wind on our backs 3-0 half time and im guessing a very unhappy War Boys manager and very pleased Eye one.
Given our orders to not sit back but to go out and try to pounce on any holes WB leave while pushing for the equaliser. As ever not everything goes to plan and WB came out all guns blazing, pressure good passing and finally for them a few testers at Billy but when you've played 8 and conceeded 3 its going to take an exceptional effort from 25 yards to beat him. Eye weatherd the storm and started to get back into the game, with the wind being so strong the objective was to play the ball about then get the full backs spinning and putting pressure on the right back (thats where the wind took the ball anyway)
The second half was more of a test of will and spirit for the eye defence as Warboys poured on the pressure and eventually they got a goal back thru y error, cross came in and it was a stretch for me, Ebbo in a better position called but it was too late for me i'd comitted to the header, it glanced off the top of my head and a good scissor kick from their striker gave Warboys hope.
With 25miutes left and some very tired players we really had to run the clock down and try to keep posession. for some reason Warboys left our right winger Glen in acres and with the tackles flying in and tempers flaring to calm things we often put the ball out to the right and let glen run at their left back. with 15 minutes left to go Gino decided to to make a tactical change and took off Dean Clarke and bring on Foggy, most of you know him so it wont come as a shock for you to find out he was booked only 3 minutes after getting on the pitch :)
it worked and we were able to cut down the attacks and actually move the ball around with a midielder now sitting and picking up any loose ends.
This was a very physical game and most the tackles being hard but fair there were only a few yellows shown.
The ref said 7 minutes to go so we begin wrapping up the gae with keep ball and the corner trick. I totally understand what its like to know your loosing and the clock is being wound down we all get frustrated but i took a hell of a caning in the corner but we managed to let the clock tick down and keep the ball their, CONGRATS EYE this win puts us top on merrit and fully deserved we walked the walk and that was the question after such a fiesty buil up to this clash.
Good crowd turned up, so thank you to all the spectators even if 95% of them were cheering on Warboys.
It was a good game and apart from a few teams Warboys were undoubtedly one of the better teams we have come up against even if they did have a bad day in the office.
