Just read about the bad injury to Brendan Bird on Saturday. Apparently a bad challenge that resulted in a red card for the Pinchbeck player and a broken leg for Brendan!
Very unfortunate for Brendan, especially at this time of year when he should be enjoying the festive season and not stuck in a hospital bed.
Great local footballer who always gives 100% no matter what.
I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
nasty, horrible to hear.
all the best in a speedy recovery Brendan from all at EYE.

Sorry news
Brendan is one of the great characters of local soccer and tremendous servant to Leverington over years although has Wayne pulling his hair at times
Hope he makes a full recovery and gracing the pitch again
Its never nice to hear of a player suffering a serious injury such as the one Brendan sustained, especially at this time of year.
Get well soon and best wishes from all at Whittlesey United Football Club.

I saw the tackle and I think the red card says it all!! whether he meant it or not does not take away that it was a cowardly tackle going over top of the ball, Bren maybe a hothead but Ive never seen him set out to break a players leg, and for their manager to say to the ref he thought it was a harsh sending off left me speechless, lets hope Bren makes a good recovery but I dont think we will see him play again unfortunately

Thanks for the kind words chaps, even though most of ya have tried to kick the crap out of me over the years ha ha. just got out of hospital this afternoon, not the best xmas ive ever had! ha ha.
saturdays incident quite honestly frightened the **** out of me, ive never felt pain like that in my life, and i would,nt wish that amount of pain on my worst enemy, and that includes the young man who did it to me. not for one minute do i think the boy went to break my leg in four places. but the trouble is lads next time you go over the top of the ball with ya studs showing think about that poor c*nt in front of ya who wont be able to earn a penny for four months. the boots are well and truly hung up now ive enjoyed my battles with everybody over the years, love ya football lads , i have done!

Always remember you as a horrid opponent Brendan, who never for 1 minute laid down - one of the last of a dying breed. That included the game you played for us in the Rep side and it is a shame to end your career like this, but given your trade you are in, not working is something of a nightmare I guess.
All the best and a speedy recovery - Tommy

Sorry to hear about the injury mate and know how you feel as broke my leg a week before xmas 2 years ago playing for ortonians!
Hope the club have insurance to help you out and the FA will also compensate you in some way as your club pays a subscription into a fund to help people who suffer serious injuries.
Get well soon mate and be positive but do not rush back into anything.
