Hello All ,

Does anyone agree or disagree that the standard in the division is a lot stronger this season ?

There are no real poor sides & everyone appears stronger than last season.

What we all think ?

Paul, i cant comment on how strong last season was in combi 2 as this is my 1st season managing in this division. Have to say that i am enjoying it and we have been involved in some great games so far this season. Even though they are not top i think the best team we have played this season are wimblington res, they have had some strange results so far but the two games we have played against them they have outplayed us on both occasions. I must admit i expected us to be a lot higher in the league than what we currently are, but that just goes to show you cant take nothing for granted at this level.

Last season the two outstanding sides were : langtoft who won the league & alconbury who finished 2nd , Alconbury beat us both games & were a strong side.

The rest of the division was pretty close & the middle 7 or 8 sides could all beat each other , with the bottom 4 sides being pretty poor.

This year appears harder to me with most sides capable of beating teams on there day.

The best 3 sides i seen in order are :

1 ) long sutton

2) Netherton

3 ) psl

Not seen pinchbeck or wimblington yet so cant comment.

We away at pinchbeck this saturday so will know more about them after that.

Should be a good 2nd half to the season & sure there will be many twists & turns on the way.

Pinchbeck are a very good side, they like to play football and have a lot of pace about them, it easy to see why they are 2nd in the league, i think the only negative comment about them is they have a few youngsters in there side that are not keen on a physical game, but you will need to have your wits about cos they are def a good footballing side.

I honestly thought Pinchbeck were going to stroll combi 2 this year.

bratts
18-12-2007, 09:52
langtoft - why would you think pinchbeck would stroll combi div 2 this season? I am thinking of starting with 9 men every week after saturdays performance:). Thats the 2nd time this season ( including pre-season ) we have beaten teams with less than 11 players on the pitch, the 1st time was against you boys pre-season when we only had 11 players and at halftime one of the want to watch posh didnt they JB:nono:, we came from behind in that game to win and we done it again saturday v pinchbeck. I just wish we could play like that every week when we have 11 players on the field .

Just the fact that they were the best team we played last season.

Yeah seeing as your lot were a 1st team last year in a tough div 2 you should be doing better aswell.

I know I have seen a big difference in Div 1 as I'm sure Lee has too, to be honest though there is only about 4 players in my squad that played last season. Annoying but life of a reserve side.

Torally agree with you mate, i expected us to have done much better than what we have so far. But saying that there are only about 5 or 6 players that played in div 2 playing for me this season, i gave brought in a lot of new players and got rid of some of the old, no matter what level it takes players time to gel together, if we are still together next season at psl then i would expect us to win that league, but you never know what the future holds

Was gonna say, Jimmy doesn't have everyone he had last season. He's got a good bunch there and I expected them to be winning this league but from reading the match reports, they still switch off at the back, which would drive me mad ;)

Gotta say its still a good standard in this league after coming from a tough Div 2 league, which included some good solid teams. Been quite impressed and shocked.

There is no doubt we should be near the top, Saturday proved this after beating the team i would consider to be the best in this league (Pinchbeck), we should also have beaten Long Sutton and I would class Wimblington a better side after outclassing us twice.

Simplyme - Your absolutely right, defending as a team has cost us, last season as Farcet after we got the defending sorted we were a class act, but as Bratts said, half the team has changed and its taking us a bit of time to gel.

Gotta say Crowland pushed us hard and been surprised at some of their results.

Overall its been a lot harder than expected and enjoying it!

Some experience and talking at the back is needed and then we'll be fine.

Simplyme, you'd fit the bill perfectly. Slim may even like playing right back more then

bratts

Slim n Noel, the back 4 has been the same now for 2 games running ( the most amount of games we had the same back 4 this season ), and to be fair to them they have started both these games a little shaky but 15 mins into each game n they have come together. It is now looking a little more solid and to be fair they defended like champions on saturday. We need consistency more than anything, we are down to play long sutton this saturday so another tough game, but if we can but the same performance in with 11 men as we did with 9 against pinchbeck it will be another psl win.

Yes slim Bratts , we are not a bad little side & have a good squad this season.
We are too inconsistant this season , we have lost too many games against sides lower down the league & yet have also had some good results as well. We can go from fantastic to awful in the space of 7 days!!!
It shows the sides who have shown some sort of consistantcy are near the top of the league & there on merit coz every team this season has a real go at whoever they playing.

Being a Crowland Town FC Player, I am with our Manager on this in that I do feel the league has got stronger. I think this is largely due though to the amount of players playing in the division who have played at a higher level (back in the day) but are now plying their trade in the lower divisions it's good to see! That's not knocking the new breed of players coming through.

I must say I really like the new layout of website by the way.. very impressive!

Yea a surprisingly big difference in the standard Aiden (Langtoft), just starting to find our feet in Combi 1. I was at Gedney reserves in Combi 2 before going to the first team last year and at that point Aiden's Langtoft and Gedney (with Pinchbeck if I recall) I felt stood out to the others in the Division. Gedney then folded the reserves as they become the first team and effectively gift wrapped you the league. Know I was gutted to have left our title battle Aiden!

The division at this stage compared to last is a lot more open and I think that is because the teams are more level pegged in terms of ability (Better or Worse I dont know as not seen any games) as a whole that can only be good for the division and more entertaining for those involved.

Looking forward to catching up with you soon Aide. Good win last week Jimmy!

yes lee it was a cracking win and just about sums up this division. long sutton & pinckbeck may be sitting pretty at the top but i think that will all change by the end of the season, wimblington are not far adrift and as they say anything can happen in footy. Good to see your lads are picking up a bit mate...

lee can you boys at alcoonbury notice the difference between combi 1 and 2 ? If so wot is it? also who's best side uve played this season?

Lee
20-12-2007, 15:24
Difference between the two divisions to me is simple:

Combi 1
Seem to be largely slower players but more experienced and therefore cleverer.

Combi 2 (based on last year)
Young sides more naeive, but full of energy, inexperienced tho and therefore was easier to exploit their weaknesses?

Best side this season we played against has to be Warboys (Quarter Final of Hunts Cup) in the League Perkins (Lost 2-0).

Long Sutton / Wimbo and Pinchbeck, just wait until you guys get to Combi 1 its tough trust me, I think even with the same squad as last year we would be finding it tough, in a league where most teams can beat each other nobody is safe from the drop only really 3 teams stand out at the moment the rest fighting to stay in the div.

Which 3 clubs stand out? Whittlesey, Perkins and ???????

Langtoft_United
02-01-2008, 14:58
Langtoft of course!

Ahem only looking at scores I think Ramsey are doing well as are Moulton, and we found out how good Holbeach can be although it was the worst performance by any langtoft team I have been involved with ever.

3rd Team is Ramsey on current position.

Think Moulton,Leverington, Parsons Drove and other clubs from Wisbech way are always difficult to go and get 3 points as they have there game plan(which is usually abit physical) and they stick to it. Certainly not places 4 the faint hearted. But 2 say who has proven to be the strongest opponents is difficult as we are in a reserve league and many teams chop n wiv the first team, so depends who plays on the day.

Langtoft_United
03-01-2008, 09:29
Yeah your right and we have a right 6 pointer v Parson Drove this week!

Your also right about the chopping and changing although we have our 1st team in Div2 unlike any other Combi 1 teams so its not quite the same for us.

Lee
03-01-2008, 11:52
Parson Drove a physical side, if your lads are prepared to graft and you can man mark Dan Norman I think his name is? You will be halfway there Aiden. Good Luck hope you do well this season you deserve it with your commitment to the cause mate.

Langtoft fortunatly for us we have been able to keep the same squad of 16-20players all season, although in my opinion many are good enough for the first team. We said at the start of the season we owed it to the management team and ourselves to go out and try and win something and that is what we have set about doing, taking 1 game at a time.So at this point not 1 of the 1st team squad have been used even when they have'nt got a game. Im not sure how many other sides in the combination league's use the first teams quality when they havent got a game but no we have come across a few teams doing so(not moaning understand its a reserve league and every side within it has the same opportunity to do this). Just making the observation.
