I told you all in an earlier post that Rovers have good players and a team that are capable of doing some damage and they found their feet with out a doubt against Eye so the prediction nearly came true!
Game started off at one hell of a tempo, with out a doubt Rovers getting the better of us, some meaty challenges going in and some cry babies who couldnt yake a tackle B.O.T.N:tpd:
Rovers were holding a tight high line at the back which Eye failed to exploit on a day where Gino gave the kids a chance by leaving Dean Clarke, Luke Elsom, Gus and Coxy on the bench and it seemed to back fire when rovers hit a shot at the keeper which dribbled towards Daz our keeper standing in for the injured Billy.. Daz was already looking for someone to throw it to before he had picked the ball up and fumbled the ball dropping it straight to the rovers striker, this was flagged off side by our over excitable lino who still stands by his decision that the goal was off side but from here i was standing it looked like the striker pounced while on side:surr:sorry to the hard working Rovers side i feel you were robbed of a goal.
the game stood at nil nil on a heavy pitch that was badly cut up and both teams were at each other again in my opinion Rovers looking the more hungry for the forst 30 minutes!
last 15 saw Eye step up the tempo and cause a few problems but this was weathered by Rovers who deserved to be going in 1-0 at half time.
Half time arrived and the Eye lads all sat in the dressing room looking shocked like we had just been beaten. fortunately it wasnt over and we still had 45 mins with no deficit so we left the dressing room having taken off spenny for Luke.
Instant difference unlike the first half the ball was now sticking up front and we were now involving the wings a lot more. With Leon now moving out to the right we also had pace and direction and this is here we caused the problems it wasnt long before Luke pounced on a loose ball in the Rovers area and stabbed home the first goal.
Straight away you could see the heads drop and mistakes crept into Rovers tidy game along with fatigue.
not too long after we introduced Dean Clarke and this really caused Rovers problems, the introduction of Dean was a forced change tho as Glen who had been playing up front seemed to run into a Brick wall at the back for Rovers the wall didnt move but Glens Ribs sure did while he lay on the floor gasping with tears in his eyes we knew it was time to make the change.
instant impact when Luke passed the ball to Dean who squared it to Leon who again slotted the ball home to make it 2-0... then with in minutes there was a mess up at Rovers defense Luke collected the ball and volleyed it home from all of 30+ yards out.
Coxy then replaced young Lewis who would have been more at home in a wax musem than on a football field as he stood like a frozen statue for most of the game.
Rovers did have their fair share of chances thru out the game to score and the Rovers keeper made some fantastic saves to stop the score line being bigger... Rovers break came when a good move saw them force an error from Daz again who failed to pick the ball up dropped it to the striker and a tap in for Rovers gave them hope, they should also have had another goal but tired legs saw them fire an easy chance wide which would really have seen them push for the draw!
The game finished 3-1 and a stearn roasting for all the players let us know that the performance was not good enough and against a more confident side we would have been punished!
