Whittlesey progressed to the next round of the North Cambs Junior Cup with a convincing 8-1 victory at home to Outwell.
Whittlesey controlled the game throughout the opening stages and were rewarded on the 15 minute mark, when central midfielder Adam Moore hit a 30 yard piledriver that went in off the post as the visiting keeper looked in awe at the opposing player's strike.
Despite our dominance we took our foot off the gas and let the visitors back in the game, a mix up in defence between keeper Daniel Fletcher and centre half Scott Laud gifted the visitors a goal to make it all square, just moments later Outwell could have taken the lead when their pacy loan striker eluded the challenges in the box before firing a shot that was well saved by Fletcher and the incoming Outwell midfielder could not convert the loose ball.
The boys started to dig in though and were rewarded just minutes before half time when Paul Hibbins persisted in the box and fired a low shot into the bottom left hand corner to make it 2-1.
The half time team talk was full of frustration as the boys knew that they had taken their foot off the pedal and let the opposition back into the game.
The second half saw the lads really set their stall out and Burch made it 3-1 with a well taken goal, this was the catalyst for the floodgates to open as we upped the tempo ten fold. Hibbins added a fourth with another well taken goal. The comfortable advantage saw us revert to a 4-3-3 formation as we introduced youngster Luke Quince and Stef Green into the fold, Quince found the net with his first touch to extend the home side's lead. Burch, Hibbins and Quince all added further goals respectively for what was a rampant Whittlesey side in the second half.
So progression in another County Cup competition, where we continue to take it one game at a time. We have another Cup game next week this time in the re-arranged PFA Junior Cup match at home to a resurgent Langtoft who seem to have picked up of late, looking forward to what i'm sure will be a competitive encounter.
COME ON!
