View Full Version : The Vine vs Whittlesey United
Whittlesey returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-0 victory against The Vine in the Cambs Cup. After last weeks disappointing draw at Stamford Bels the lads were in buoyant mood and determined to make amends. The boys started slowly again and were nearly caught out mid way through the second half with a long range free kick, but Fletcher in the visiting goal made a good save. As the first period progressed Whittlesey had numerous chances to edge ahead, Hibbins and Heron were both denied by the home keeper. With the first half approaching its end, Whittlesey took the lead when midfielder Matty Heron took advantge of some indecision in the home defence to round the keeper and slot home into an empty net to make the score 1-0 at HT.
The second half saw a better performance from the visitors, with Burch, Hibbins, Heron and Dart all coming close to netting goals only to be denied by an in form keeper who seemed to be getting in front of everything. Whittlesey remained dominant throughout though and Heron duly added a second with a towering header 10 minutes from time to send Whittlesey into the next round of the Cambs Junior Challenge Cup where we will entertain Sawston Rovers at the Manor.
So another win for the boys against a side that made life difficult for us but lacked that cutting edge and as the game progressed our quality told. Another Cup game on Saturday this time in the Norh Cambs Junior Cup, this time we welcome Outwell Swifts to the Manor, where we will be looking to progress to the next round of another cup competition.

no suprise really Shaun, me little mate is a busy guy, often has to work out of the country so spare time is at a premium, also bear in mind he now has the added task of contributing to our website....making sure it gets regular updates etc - the joys of running a team eh!
Ben, doing a grand job buddy, but with us still right in there in all four competitions I expect things to get a whole lot busier in the coming months - as long as our lads remember ogaat we will be ok
see ya at training tonight :clap2:
Shaun - apologies for the below par match reports, as Mick says often working away so what time i have is spent on more pressing matters.
Mick - Spot on, season going very well so far BUT long long way to go as me and you very well know, catch ya later.

Shaun, probably need to put clubwebsite in the address, as the domain name is ours but search engines still have difficulty in picking it up at the moment, oh and its whittleseyunitedfc and not as the man from Coates indicated whittleseyuntiedfc, Freudian slip there Dave?
Dave - suggest you look at our reserve section, buddy, probably find its on a par with your 1st team section with regards to content!!!
I suspect that looking at your site, you are struggling to get somone from your reserves to update, same applies to Whittlesey, but in our instance its the 1st team who are slow to react!!!
Still got a bit of work to do with regards to active links etc - hope to get one of my guys at work to do some work on our site in the coming weeks.

Haha, just a typo buddy!!!
Yeah it's left down to muggins and Gary to update the web, just difficult getting the info from the players. Just had a look at the reserves section mate, spot on with your assesment!!
Takes time to get the original info on their, but once its all there it doesn't take much to tweak it does it? A good site for clubs like ourselves.
let's hope on the pitch both teams can remain in the hunt for 4 competitions!! Although i think you are more equipped to win your div than what we are ours!!
Football in W'sey/Coates doing well at the mo, with all 4 teams firing!! Long way to go but gotta be happy with the starts we've made.

One of the best ways to make your site more searchable is to make sure there are plenty of links available. The search engines use "bots" to trawl the internet going from site to site via links. Therefore if you get sites to add a link to yours and vice versa this should help get you up the listings. Ours now comes out at number one on Google when searching Thorney Football Club whereas it didn't used to appear at all.
Good start point would be for club's to add links to each other's sites.

yup Dave - nice to see that both clubs are on the up mate - nothing won yet though - plenty of work still to do off the pitch as well as on, for both clubs - best of luck for the rest of the season, pop in for a pint next time you are at home, more than welcome, see if you can drag Munnsy along for a , he's been involved in local football nearly as long as I have - and he supports the mighty Hammers...... :nwy:
