Posting a comment about Sawtry asking if they have any thing to offer after loosing a late goal to 10 players in our league clash may have had its consiquences, in my opinion it didn't.
The first 5 minutes of the game were super fast paced, the spectaters were licking their lips with anticipation of a great game which for me was capped of with my central partner in crime saying to me "jesus were never gonna keep this pace up!"
but after those mad 5 minutes passed the game began to take shape for Eye, slick passing clever movement and very intelligent touches i was on fire!!! ha i even laughed at that.
but the proof that we wanted to progress in the cup was there after excellent build up play from back to front resulted in the Clarke brothers linking up for Spencer to slot home the opener about 20 minutes in.
The pressure stayed constant with rare attcks from Sawtry who seemed a shadow of their former selves based on our first clash.
(i think maybe their *starplayer* carrying a knock?)
still nothing could be said against the penalty they were awarded when some good play got our defence back tracking, forcing a save from our keeper only to fall to a gambling M.O.M sawtry striker who scuffed his shot (or did he) It hit the arm of Dom Clarke who was laying on the floor like some sort of Spanish international all that was missing was him holding his face to convince the ref it wasnt hand ball, hey Brownie!
Ref had no choice spot kick and branded the money card..... RED!
What happened next inspired the remaining ten players to carry on playing the same football, The penalty was struck very HARD very HIGH and very WIDE! must have been our keeper doing the old kicking of the posts and asking the umpire if he was in the middle. Nice move.
Still we carried on like we had 11 and well done to the lads out there hard work and effort seemed to be paying off!
Half Time came, Eye 1 - 0 Sawtry
The second half however started of totally different, as is normally the case with football.
Sawtry came out fired up and knew they just had to ware us down and grab a goal no matter how it came!
They sprayed passes around they had us working from front to back to keep them out, it seemed as though the old Sawtry had returned!!
Still we hung on to our lead and Dean Clarke was put thru one on one against the Tall standing Sawtry keeper, my money is on Dean here... Yup im skint he smashed it over the bar missing his 3rd one on one of the game, with 10 players and a few running on emptry that was our chance to kill the game.
Only a few minutes later and we were made to pay, the ball looped towards goal still 13-14 yards from the line our keeper comes out to claim it from the bounce but mis-judged and high bounce saw him watch the ball sail over his head and a shattered team watch on as Sawtry found what they were looking for a goal just a shame it was FREE.
The shoe really was on the other foot now and wave after wave of pinged balls and passes came from Satrys defence and midfield to their front men who were playing with an air of confidence now.
Some changes from Eye saw us have a few more half chances but nothing that really troubled Sawtry and then the inevitable happened and a 2nd from Sawtry blew the wind from our sales! we now went 3 at the back and all out attack.
Unlike the league game they gave us no chance of finding the equaliser.
A sweet shot from the Sawtry M.O.M pinged back off our post and we were really rocking now. A third goal shortly after that compounded our misery as we realised all the effort was to be seen by everyone as
Eye 1 - 3 Sawtry!
Well done Sawtry its normally harder to play against 10 men as you know but you did what you had to, as ever good drink back at the club house and great entertainmant watching you dish out your fines for bad game grades and under par players. how much did that cost you again morrow.
All the best in the cup lads but in the cup only, you have to come to Eye yet we will be ready.
