View Full Version : Perkins Sports Club
Can anyone confirm that Perkins intend to shut their sports club next August ? If true where does this leave the football clubs ? Having lost Baker Perkins and Brotherhoods years ago, Hotpoint more recently Peterborough local league football can ill afford to lose Perkins. As I understand it Alex is beginning to turn them round, what a kick in the teeth if they are to lose their facilities.

I happen to work at Perkins and a communication has recently come out that states the following:
Over recent years there has been a considerable decrease in employee participation in the PSA. Extensive promotional work and surveys carried out by the PSA Committee and the Company to create an interest in activities has disappointingly failed to generate new employee membership that is the lifeblood of such an organisation.
Despite the hard work of the PSA Committee it has become clear that there is no longer the level of active interest in employee membership of the PSA and the associated clubs that was once in place. To that end it is important that the Company maximises the value of all of its assets and accordingly the Company wishes to sell the land in question to help provide further investment to safeguard jobs in Peterborough.
The Company and the PSA Executive have endeavoured over many months to enable a way forward, but unfortunately it has not been possible to determine a solution for the future of the PSA which the Company is able to support. The Company have given the PSA extended notice to vacate and the PSA have agreed to do so. The extended notice will allow the PSA to meet its current fixtures and commitments until well into 2008.
A bit long winded but I hope this clears things up! :soo:
So from what I can make out it's true. What a sad loss to Peterborough sports, not only the football but cricket, tennis and also very succesful bowls teams
