STRETHAM HOSPURS 1
WHITTLESEY UNUTED RESERVES 4

Whittlesey made the trip to Stretham in the Cambs Cup in good spirits and chalked up another impressive victory.

The boys started slowly in difficult blusterry conditions and on a very small pitch they struggled to click into gear. Despite their slow start the lads looked reasonably comfortable and were dealt a blow on the half hour mark when a 20 yard shot creeped into the bottom left hand corner, much to the disappointment of Fletch in the Whittlesey goal who had slipped in the muddy goalmouth when trying to reach the ball.

Whittlesey responded well though and 10 minutes later it was all square, when Paul Hibbins found space in the box and cooley volleyed home to tie the game up.

The boys had the wind at their back's in the second half and were very dominant, Hibbins made it 2-1 when he neatly headed home after a great Danny Baxter free kick. As the game progressed the visiting side grew stronger, Hibbins added a third and his 15TH of the season with a close range volley and strike partner Micky Burch made it 4-1 with a clever header at the near post with just minutes remaining.

The boys celebrated their win with a night on the town and left the boss nursing a fat lip as he slipped over in the changing room when erm, doing the post match win ritual, much to the sympathy of all the boys i'm sure you can imagine

So another good win for the boys and a passage into the next round of the Cup. All delighted with the start, but the season is a marathon not a sprint as the old cliche goes and we're now looking forward to the visit of Holbeach in the league on Saturday in what i'm sure will be a good game.
