I thought i would get in here before Mr Harbour for a change.

From the moment the Stilton lads turned up Saturday i felt we were going to get the result we needed, for pretty much the first time this season everybody looked properly up for it and were in the right frame of mind for a game that would have seen us drop 7 points off the pace had we lost.

Stilton had a dream start, only 2 minutes had gone when a good piece play put Mark Baines through, either a tremendous piece of vision or a shank of a shot, (i favour the latter) put the ball on a plate for his brother Rich who was lurking with intent at the back post. 1-0 Stilton.

Even though a chunk of the team talk revolved around coping with Eye playing 3 in central midfield, Stilton struggled to cope with the man over in the middle of the park, with Harbs and Clifton getting time and space the next 15 mins definitely belonged to Eye, this culminated in a good run from an unmarked Harbs being picked out well and the boy done well with an extremely well taken goal.

As a result of this goal, the Stilton team was moved about in order to cope with the irritating Harbs. After this we always looked quite comfortable and were looking sharp upfront. Mark Baines went clear again under severe pressure from a chasing pack of Eye players intent on bringing him down(as they were for 90 mins) but he dragged his shot wide. A bit of route one from Stilton and flick from Rich Baines put Mark through again but he volleyed over after doing well to get there in the first place. A corner from Stilton was then converted in emphatic style with a bullet header from super Phil Nickolay to give Stilton a crucial, and possibly just about a deserved lead(2-1). More big tackles and nervous times followed at both ends with both sets of strikers putting themselves about. Five minutes before the break Nick 'Figo' Lee got in the clear to deliver a dangerous cross which created panic in the Eye defence and led to a bit of a scramble in which Al Hardy came out on top by poking Stilton into a 3-1 half time lead.

We knew Eye were going to come out strong in the initial stages of the second half, for the first 15 minutes Eye had a lot of the ball, a few corners and set pieces in good areas, but failed to create much against a much improved Stilton defence. Stilton decided to pull there heads out of there :mnn: and became more involved in proceedings, the game was now end to end and still ultra competitive. More good play from Figo on the wing created a couple more chances for Stilton, but the finishing touch could not be applied until Al Hardy popped up with a great finish off the inside of the post, 4-1 and Eye looked deflated. Stilton had the bit between their teeth and were charging forward looking dangerous with every attack, Rich and Alan up front were putting themselves about and it was'nt long before Mark Baines found himself in enough space to deliver crushing blow to both Eye and the back of the net with a half volley which arrowed into the bottom corner.

To give cradit to Eye they pulled together and kept going, although there were a few frustrated, late tackles now being dished out. They got a deflected goal with not long left and then held the score to 5-2. Also i thought credit should go to the referee who handled the game very well, i hope he referee's us many more times in the future.

A good performance (not great) from Stilton to get us back on track.

I hope this was a fair assessment Harbs?

I have just finished my chicken salad, was damn nice thanks shey.
Just got my chair all set and back straight ready to write a match report only to find Gazza has taken the next 20 minutes of my mind and scribbled it dopwn for all to see.
i just can't argue with what you say mate.

From an Eye perspective, i can only say that it was a frustrating blow to concede only 2 minutes into the game.
Without inflating any ego's what do you expect when letting the city proclaimed whizz kid Mark Baines run off the defense and recieve the quality of the returns being offered by his team mates!
As a team we struggled to live with his ability to drift off his marker (hands up i let him walk off me a few times) and with two miutes gone it was a sharp wake up call with a well Poached goal Richard Baines.
(take note league 2 there really are two of them!!)

Things got harder for us when we lost our Skipper and centre back and with our left back already out injured we had a back line of Dom (centre back) Lewis(16 years old shy as they come) and Jenkins (central midfielder) not looking good.

The backlash was a fantastic one from the Eye boys and the goal was definately coming but the worry would always be could we keep this tempo up, so when we got the equaliser it almost seemed like a good excuse to take our foot off the gas and get a breather.

Unfortunately Stilton came back all guns blazsing made sure were wouldn't forget what happens when you stop playing football and chase shadows! due to a few too many beers i will have to refer you to Gazza's description of how the goals for Stilton were scored.

All in all, 3 points belonged to Stilton i dont think any one at the game could say any different, its a nudge to the Eye boys time to wake up and smell the coffee joint top with 3 other teams a injury hit squad and on the back of a heavy defeat and out 7th away game of the season on Saturday what sort of response do we have.

Training Tuesday boys and a tough game Saturday.

lets get the banter going.

Bloomin heck! What a novel that was! :blh:

But very well written of course.

A much needed win for Stilton i believe. Both these teams have players that could/should be playing at a higher level. This could be the closest of all the leagues come the end of the season, possibly 4 or 5 teams that could win the league, but feel it may go right down to the wire...a good advert for local footy, well done to Stilton.

GAZZA

You're right there Slim, a great advert for local footy, especially as it was in div 2 of our league.

I must also say well done to our fearless assistant, Andrew 'Dodsey' Pruhs who took the reigns on saturday due to our manager being on holiday. The team talk was.............................................we ll.........................memorable, lets leave it at that for now.

Stilton vs Castor, Eye vs Castor, Manea vs eye and Manea Vs Stilton will be the games deciding our Division I think. Chuck Langtoft in there for a couple of games too - they worked us damn hard.

GAZZA
25-09-2007, 11:36
I think that maybe a touch hasty Napoli, i think the team who wins the league can afford to lose 3 games as there are a lot of capable teams in this league who will take points off top teams who are not at the races on any given saturday. Sawtry will beat teams, Langtoft looked very good against us and will beat most teams in our league, although we absolutely battered warboys second half without getting the rub of the green or a single penalty decision out of 3 excellent shouts, i believe they will continue to win more than they lose. And who could forget everybody's favourite, Real March, perhaps these boys will continue to surprise us and steal a few points.

Whats going to be your excuse for loosing when you play against a decent team then Sparky?
i predict
"hat off we lost to the better team, we have done well so far but came up against much better opponents we will learn from this and get better"

YEAH righ infact it will be

"I dont know how we lost, i mean i'm playing how could we loose? think it was the ref... yeah must be that, no normal team stands a chance against us. Infact maybe it was all you lot mocking us. - or is it that i really think we are the bee's knees and am blinded that winning a few games has given me an invincibility shield but it just wasn't working today."

sparky
25-09-2007, 13:09
I think you'll find when we lose its because we've been out played. Once again mr harbs you think I'm all big headed etc, when in actul fact I'm not, I don't make excuses when we lose I take it on the chin and get on with it.

There is nothing wrong with have some confidence especially if you beat a team who got promoted last year. That being Guyhirn! They lost only 2 games I believe last year. We beat them 6-4 after losing 3-0 with 25 mins left on the clock.

To do that to a team like guyhirn takes more than a piece of luck. Idon't make up aload of crap, the facts are there. Just look at our recent results,

As I've already said we all enjoy reading about what you have to say about us, maybe when we play you , we'll win and then you'll keep ya mouh shut.

Ibet you were dead quite last year when eye were near the bottom of the table

GAZZA
25-09-2007, 13:28
Who are you playing this week Sparky?

To be honest Sparky, if you beat the same Langtoft team 5-0 that we drew with then you lot must be effing awesome, however i believe they had 9 players out and played you with their ressies. Saying that beating Guyhirn was a good result, will be very interesting how you cope with the backlash when you play them again as i believe you are soon.

Batistuta is a rat, how is it possible that he does not annoy you, nodding away being Kim milton Nielson (who is also on my list) when Beckham got sent off in '98'. ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! :batr:

Harbs
25-09-2007, 13:29
Yeah i was dead quiet last year when Eye were near the bottom of the table because i was writing in the Prem Form, think you need to do your homework Sparkstuff.

Your going to win some games and your going to loose some games i dont really care which way round it is either as you seem to have lost some and now your winning some but like i said wait til you come up against a team that will play football against you because Eye have so far played Manea, Stilton and Sawtry and all of those clubs will finish in the top six you can bank on that and we have 6 from 9 possible points from those games and they will be the ones that count at the end of the season.... now as you seem to have mentioned the fact that Eye were not singing last year because they were near the bottom how you going to feel when a struggling team like eye team you how to play football and finish above you in the league this season?

sparky
25-09-2007, 13:36
If they do then fair play to them, it wouldn't bother me atall. i just want real march to be in the top half, that will be a huge improvement on last year. we play benwick this weekend so we should get 3 points there.
i won't be playing in the peterborough league next year i am going to play in the sussex county league, equivelent to the rigdeons prem.

And if i decide to stay in the area i will play for a better team, like wisbech st mary

GAZZA

Sussex is a fair journey, i am anticipating seeing how good you are Sparky. I hope you live upto your ever growing reputation or it could be quite humiliating for you. I thought i knew who you were, did you score your sides goal against us in the cup last season, i remember it as it was quite a decent goal. Don't lie Sparky tell the truth please.

Harbs
25-09-2007, 13:52
WEll ambition is good Sparky but to say your aim is to finish mid table this season then to "play for a better team" if i were your manager now you wouldn't even get in the reserves squad.
then go from this div to the equavalent to the ridgeons.
think you are a joker Sparky.

Sparky - There in your your last post lies the root of everybody's original scepticsim.
Most of our clubs have been around the local scene for many years (albeit some in different guises) so have seen that it's never easy to just go through the divisions without some experience and a sound infrastructure.
The original assertion that Real March were a UCL team just waiting to fly through the PDFL made many people including myself a bit cynical.
The point is it's all right putting together one group of players capable of playing at a higher level but to make it work you need to have that every season. The fact that you're only in it for the short term suggests that maybe you don't believe in the project either.

Your results have been encouraging and I take my hat off to you but it takes more than that to make a football club. We'll see in five years time and if Real March achieve their goals I'll accept I was wrong. (Obviously not to you because you'll be at WSM or down south)

GAZZA

Sparky, like Harbs said, loads of people in this league have played at much higher standards and probably should still be there. For example our assisstant manager once graced the dizzy heights playing for Bourne under 11's, think what a come down this is for him.

Gazza I am the one who scored against you last season, our team were crappy back then I only had 2 or 3 chances a game.

I don't believe that real march are a UCL team at all , we're in the right league. We should not go any higher.

The main thing that I have over lots of people in the league its fitness levels and I don't want to blow my own trumpet but I do have a good first touch.

I don''t think real march will get promoted this season , but we certainly won't be walked over by anyone. The whole we are going to get to the UCL in 4 yrs is a dream of someone runninh the club. I don't think it will happen.

Napoli ...   .me thinks that Real m have made some good results stand out in this forum and ET , but, in reality, you will only finish mid table cuz there are so many "poor teams" ( no disrespect ) in our league. Benwick- fair play to them carring on and getting good results, but not quite there yet..
chatteris fen tigers- bless um , not the best start to the season !
march st marys- hard battlers but wont get much in return
P'boro city - a team set up to allow under 18's in to mens football and keep them off the streets. fair play to you but it is going to be a hard season .. but fair play :nwy:
doddington - iffy side .. not consistant.
you will take points of these teams but i think you will struggle against the BIG boys in da league.
so what if you beat guyhirn in the cup !!! everybody knows cup games are slightley different. not knocking you for beating um , its just pointing out the fact that you will finish mid table due to picking up points against the lesser teams and not many from the top half. like someone said you beat langtoft 5-0 cuz they had all thier players out !!! so i will look forward to the replay game !!!!

Harbs - i think you going  Sparky did i read right that you played at real march last season ( or what ever they were called last season, cant remeber ),if so was you playing all season for them cos, we we ( farcet at the time ) played you nobody in particular stood out in your team mate, certainly not at the level you say you have played at. Not a dig just a ?

As said before real march have done a great job in turning themselves around but lets see how you fair against the big boys of div2, n if you do hold your own then you will have proved your point, but until then please keep making me  as it brightens up my day

Good wins for Real, but both teams were there for the taking. Emneth in particular are on the ropes whereas Guyhirn very strong on the attack, but will conceed.

I doubt the top 4/5 in Div 2 will be as vulnerable. The next indicator of progress will be to beat the likes of Doddington, Warboys and even March St. Marys. March won't challenge at the top, but when at full strength will take points off the better teams in the league, like they did last year. Your next tough league game 22/10 v Doddington.

All sparks will burn out in the end
You burn like you're bouncing
Cigarettes on the road
All sparks will burn out in the end

All sparks will burn out
All sparks will burn out
All sparks will burn out
In the end

You're casting opinions
At people who need them
All sparks will burn out in the end

Well, be careful angel
This life is just too long
All sparks will burn out in the end

I've got a new scanner so to try it out I've scanned in a picture of Real March from last weeks Fenland Citizen. It's very helpful in that you can see Sparky's yellow boots!!!

If anyone wants a copy of the image, give me your email and I'll whizz it over. Not sure how to upload it onto a site.

Sparky, you may find the picture useful if Guyhirn use the same team and names on the teamsheet next time round. Say no more...

i thought you may have done that but being a brattan and going on jimmy's brain power i wasn't so sure

oh and i gave up the man love thing when, despite years of searching i couldn't find a worthy enough man to love so sadly i have never experienced the loving itself.

A seven year old boy was at
the centre of a courtroom
drama today when he
challenged a court ruling
over who should have
custody of him.
The boy has a history of being
beaten by his parents and the
judge awarded custody to his
aunt.
The boy however confirmed that his aunt beat him more than
his parents, and refused to live there. When the judge
suggested that he live with his grandparents the boy cried
out that they beat him more than anyone.
Then in an unprecedented
move, the judge dramatically
allowed the boy to choose
who should have custody of
him.
In a final ruling yesterday, custody was granted to the
Chatteris Fen tigers as the boy firmly believes that they are
not capable of beating anyone.

As for you n sparky i think you would make a lovely couple, as you seem to think the sun shine's out of your own :mnn: , the days it's not shinning maybe spaky can give you a little something that will light it up

Justin, the answer is yes, they are very poor, we did'nt fill them with confidence first game by beating them 12-0 though.

Does someone want to do a predictions thread, i am too lazy?

The Fen Tigers new manager has already left, so expect to see some of the old players (who wouldn't play for whatever reason) to return. They may pick up a couple of results now, but won't threaten any of the top teams. They lost 10-0 to Doddington at the start of the season and last weekend reduced that to a 3-0.
