Playing 4-4-2
Jody Vincent, Chris Kaye, Joe Duffy, Bobby Patterson, Jason Bannie, Scott Quinney, Anthony Thomas, Steve Burns, Luke Thackham, Dwayne Rankine, Matt Farrington
Subs: - Scott Lazenby, Adam Bevalaqua, Glen Gilbert
Couple of names I am not familiar with at Deeping and Moore at Whittlesey but team would pick itself for me.
Really good luck Flynny at the Letchworth ground I played on from aged 10 to 19!
Hope you don't suffer like CJ and I did with the rep side in terms of late withdrawls and that we finally win a game in that competition and maybe even get a home draw for the first time.
The Herts County League would be fairly comparable with the Peterborough League from a playing point of view with Buntingford Town currently the leading side, but nothing to get too worried about.

quinney could be doubtful tommy, he didn't play saturday because of hamstring trouble.

Given how early you are leaving Tommy what time is kick off as I shall be going down to Letchworth? (staying out afterwards for a few drinks with old school friends as I have run out of mates in Peterborough!)
Are they all out of jail now then Tommy
Can someone tell me how Nipper has not made the rep side? best wide player in this league
Because he has got a silly goatee beard, appearances are very important in rep games :mnn:
Apart from that it's a travesty, song to Tommy Flynn:

Still don't know what the bloody kick off time is - are they walking to Letchworth?
Good answer Tommy  3 o'clock mate
tom flynn
19-09-2007, 19:07
Ask away gentlemen(and i use the term loosely) and i will answer.I went to see Perkins play 2 or 3 times. First time Nipper was poor, as was most of the team i hasten to add.In the meantime i went to see Crowland and also Alconbury and Ashley Pratt and Luke Thackham were playing well.I picked those 2.In the other 2 games i saw Perkins Nipper played very well but not in my opinion as well as Luke and Ashley at the time of selection.Hopefully we will get through this round and Nipper is playing well enough for selection.
Now all together now just for Speck, to the tune of, Youll never win f**k all, and so on

Is the coach leaving at 12.30 Mr Flynn - if so I might come on it - just need to get the entire squad to sign an insurance disclaimer (tell them not to worry about the Peterborough Northern Star thing at the top)
If it really is 10.30 then I might struggle - got a breakfast meeting with a Russian bloke, but can't say too much about it at this stage.
Ooo dear
20-09-2007, 06:47
You've got a good squad to choose from. McCallum too old and Speechley out of sorts I presume ?
Interesting to see how this team would have done against Rep side 10 and 15 years ago.
Good luck, the league needs a good run and some exposure. It should be one of the better leagues at this level in the country (and, no, I've not had a drink, I don't usually start until 10am).
tom flynn
20-09-2007, 08:40
Coach leaves around 10.30 Tommy.Apparently a pre match meal is arranged at a hotel on the way. :beer:Correct in your assumption OOh Dear as Macca is to old and Ricky has played for PNS this season.I also wanted Simon Acton but he is a year to old.He has been outstanding so far this season.
Tommy, how can I win f*** all when I don't manage anymore, that's a very unfair thing to put and hurtful of course.
If at anytime I decide to go back into the rat race then you will be the first person I call for help and advice............ because I desperately need to know where you bought your quick flooder, no club should be without one :bst: :bst:
When do you cull the squad then Thomas ?

subs: the rest plus a keeper.

Blimey Al we have agreed completely with Quinney being injured - not sure that will catch on.
I think you can have 5 subs in this (remember Eddie Patten SNU at Dereham 2 years ago) and would advocate having a 16 man squad - if everyone of the 14 mentioned indeed comes then hats off to you Tommy but if they don't......
As you are stopping for a meal is the league trying to control the cost!

Am i right to presume if teams have got players in this rep game, their teams game will be postponed?
tom flynn

That is correct Woodview unless they have agreed a fixture with the league.I know Alconbury and Crowland have asked for a fixture as they only have 1 player represented from each club.

21-09-2007, 11:38
won't get drawn for 2 weeks yet tommy as all 1st round games haven't been played yet, difficult one for PNS Rothwell away who we beat on our way to the title last season.

What was the score Al - need something to aim at and get motivated for the game to be honest - would much rather be playing a league game and trying to get a couple of points clear if we could.
By the way Al just read the UCL Newsletter which tells me that Brett Bellamy has gone to Huntingdon which escaped me - is that right?
Cheers for the vote of confidence Gino, much appreciated!! And yes Spec i do have a funny beard but as bad as the summer has been the wind is not yet strong enough to get rid of it so...!!
Dont blame you for not picking me Tommy, Im f**kin useless!!Just ask Alex. Plus a naturally left footed player is always best to play on the left!!
If you cannot play Quinney it would be appreciated as I know he is carrying a fake injury and we need him ok for the Northants Cup game on sunday-Cheers!!
Anyway, Good luck to the Boro boys!! :nwy:
ha ha good one nipper!
at least u will be fresh for the game on sunday!

i allowed him to sign yes tommy, but he will not play any games for huntingdon unless we get knocked out of the pfa cup. and then it'll only be midweek games. he is a psl player for the season.
it would seem that darren young is trying his very best to get brett to play for them, you would be shocked at some of the deals he has offered him.
he has even got his son nicky licking bretts :mnn: they are now hanging out together.
he even asked if i would leave psl and become huntingdon's coach. i had a little chuckle at that one as my coaching aint the best which is why i ve got a quilified pat o'keeffe as coach. i do want a ucl club but as manager nothing less will do.
we beat rothwell 4-3 it was a touch and go game and our fitness showed in the end  they don't like a pysical game.
give flynny a call and i'm sure he will give you the run down on them.
Delighted to see Scott Lazenby or as he's known at WUFC, 'Maverick' in the squad. Mavers has been superb for some time now and im my mind is one of the best centre halves in local football. He is only 24 but has been with the cub for almost 9 years and is now captaining the side. He is someone who always offers to help the club out wherever he can and I am chuffed to bits for him.

22-09-2007, 09:11
Blimey you were not wrong Al - they had a number of their fringe first team squad and bench playing and 3 first teamers coming back from injury (Step 4 players)
1st half we got a bit of a run around, but down the hill were the better team and won 1-0 with a Wayne Morris goal - good game on an awful night.
Might have to start taking the competition a bit more serious now.....nah!

all northants teams seem to go all out to win this cup and it is widely talked about on UCL chatter.
i said to flynny last season i don't care about this one and we went on to win it.
this season we will take all cup games as they come and if we stay in and they help us delay a few league games until xmas then i'll be happy.

Lost 4v2 after being 2 nil up.Im gutted as were the players but i can honestly say that the players gave their all.A big thankyou to Speck who helped run the team, he was awesome in his approach and helped the lads big time.I really cant speak highly enough of all the lads and especially Scott Lazenby who got hurt during the game and carried on. what a big heart that lad has.On the other hand when complete t*****s like Luke Thackham dont turn up it really p****s me off.Who the f**k does he think he is.I saw men dying for the cause for me on Saturday and even being hurt and that w*****r sat at home not giving a f**k.I m not sorry for what i write as i say it how it is and it is only my opinion at the time of writing but i can assure you that it is the opinion of many others as well.2v0 up and coasting and within 7 mins it was 2v2 a ball over the top caught us square at the back and their forward lobbed Jodie. We all thought f**k it dont matter thats the only 1 they will get as we were solid at the back. The ref then gave a dubious pen against us.The ball was kicked against our players hand, no intention but he gave it 2v2.Held on for extra time. They were in the ascendency and we were out on our feet and a deflected goal from nothing killed us and as we pushed forward they got another.Got to say what an awesome bunch of lads they were and their spirit epitimized what the Peterborough Premier League is all about. My thanks to everyone that has helped me from all the clubs. This league and the people in it deserves its plaudits as it is exactly what is says on the label,Premier League. And if i can give anyone any advice,Keep away from the Patterson family and Benty from Moulton.Crazy and not mentally stable the lot of em.Superb night with them as it was Bobbys 21st.The league should run this every couple of months as the comaradary was first class. Also thanks to all the supporters and Tommy Cooper who we left there to be gang raped by the locals.Oh and have i mentioned Luke Thack :gun: ham.Goal scorers for us were Anthony Thomas and Matt Farrington.
Unlucky Tommy, heard you lads did the Peterborough league proud. Speaking with Scott this morning he was sitting in A&E, he can't put any weight on his injured foot.

Hard luck yesterday Tommy & Spec - game of 3 halves with Herts on top first 25 minutes, Peterborough for the next 40 when scoring both goals and looking like winning comfortably and Herts again for the last 25 and into extra time when the injury to Maverick and no other subs hindered your efforts.
Penalty was the turning point and was a shocking decision as the ball bounced up onto the arm from about 2 foot away.
Had a great night Mr Flynn with my old school and football buddies I had not seen for 20 years and managed to remain a virgin!

Thoroughly enjoyed the day and if that effort and friendship was the same week in and week out at club level I would be back managing like a shot. Football can be a cruel game sometimes and that was the case Saturday, unfortunately I missed the session afterwards due to a family birthday but I will be up for the next one.
Mr Flynn, always a pleasure to be involved with you whether it be as a player, managing, drinking or just a mate and Saturday was no different :nwy:
TommyC, nice of you to make the effort to come down and always good to see you, I ain't being funny mate but I wasn't far out with my assumption of your mates just coming out of prison, although it was said tongue in cheek they certainly looked the bloody part
And to all the players in the squad, you should be proud of yourselves because we certainly were of you, I won't give the little s*** the satisfaction of naming him but young man, you reap what you sow in life and what you did Saturday will come back and haunt you, mark my words
Having just read all this I contacted Roger who told me he did not play for the rep team and personally I think the lad was bang out of order. Should not have let the side down in that manner. It should be seen as an honour to have even been asked to represent the city and our side, and for that guys I apologise from everyone at Alconbury.
If no one else will apologise I will. Well done to the guys who did take part and those who helped on the day.

Lee you or infact anybody else at Alconbury should have to apologies for the player not turning up or at the very least having the decency to ring up and explain why he did not turn up. He should do his own dirty work. There is probably not alot the league can do to sanction the player, except exclude him from any future squads. However Alconbury themselves could suspend him for a couple of weeks.

Its a hard call Cham as same thing happened with David Bentley in England u21 and well Blackburn didnt suspend him.
Think he has lernt his lesson and will have enough abuse off people to teach him a lesson.
i think he did you a favor by not turning up tommy! by his own admission during saturday's game he said he wasn't up for playing footy at all and it clearly showed with his worst performance of the season by far! bang out of order for not having the nuts to tell you(i did offer to call you and hand him the phone but he bottled out of that too  ).
pity cos he could've made all the difference if he was on top of his game as i'm sure he'd have been a starter.

I think Bentley advised the manager. There is no excuses. Lets hope he learns his lesson as he is a good player. The goal he scored for Burys at Perkins was class. But to let the likes of Flynny and Roger down is a disgrace.

luke is a young lad who sometimes bury's his head in the sand, much like alot of teenagers now days.
he only made it worst by not contacting someone, no doubt he sat up all night on his x box and sleeped in and by then it was to late to ring someone, but having him play for psl i have found he can make a mess of things without trying and without intension.
did he play for alconbury then saturday in their defeat? would seem so.
a few seasons ago i pulled my psl players out the rep side due to a disputed with the league and the team lost, so i suppose that made me as bad as luke really.
one person does not make a team and i'm sure whoever played left mid did a good job? from the sound of things he wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to winning the game.
i understand you being p1ssed off tommy. but im sure it isn't the 1st time you have been let down by a player now is it?

Made quite a difference Al - the game was 2-2 when Maverick became little more than a passenger and there wasn't a 3rd sub to throw on. As managers (and I am as guilty as the next man) don't we all seem to be a little too indulgent of these guys who show an incredible lack of respect for us and their teammates?
Thanks Spec - yes I was brought up on an estate that makes the Westwood look posh where even the Rottweillers go around in pairs (can't beat the old ones) and I believe that one or two had frequented establishments with HM in front of their name.
With us getting the bar sorted hope to see you guys down at Chestnut Avenue Saturday for our "interesting" game with Huntingdon (shameless plug on a thread getting lots of views)
He knew Thursday he wasn't playing, no excuse whatsoever and I have just read in tonights ET that Barry Gregory is saying that Alconbury didn't know until 2.00, well I spoke to Roger Daniels at 10.45 in the morning and asked where he was!!!
Unlucky Tom/spec and shame you could not get through!!
As for Thackham, never really rated him anyway (personal opinion) and him letting you down just shows what sort of person he is. With the communication devices available we have today it is simply no excuse not to contact you and shows a lack of respect that you both do not deserve!!
Seen the ET and think Alconbury may have there wires crossed or simply playing the game!!
Fair play for trying Al, but you can not defend the indefensiveable. Two wrongs do not not make a right. I note from the ET that Barry Gregory has now apologised for Luke. Should not have to let alone need to. The player should take the time, trouble and effort to apologise to the appropriate persons involved. It the end of the day not only did he let a lot of people down, but he also let himself down.
Wish I was still playing now :lsr:
carefree
25-09-2007, 22:38
i not trying to defend him as you know i have had a few problems with luke myself with him letting me down, just trying to put across that he is a teenager and we all know how daft they can be sometimes. (still think the rep side should have taken a spare keeper). Barry said luke had to work saturday?? i'm baffled by this one as i thought he worked for Roger??? so is it really Roger's fault then :soo:
Alconbury must have known that luke hadn't gone to the rep's game why else did he get a starting shirt V parson drove?
as i said before, was it within his interest to play for the rep's??? after all no one gets forced to turn out. before you all jump on this one , yes i agree he should have rang someone. but it is hardly his fault alone that we lost the game. things just didn't work out at the end of the day, we did throw away a 2 nil halftime lead remember.
disagree with you Foggy, luke is a very talented player and i rate him and so do many others too. (i know its your personal opinion)
He can be as talented as he likes Al but he isn't and never will be a world beater at football and only if you are a genius would you get away with that sort of behaviour.
Yes we threw away a half time lead but even when they drew level our heads didn't drop and we still had a couple of chances to win the game after that.
It was lost in extra time when we had 10 men and no 3rd sub on a very hot day, that one player would have made all the difference, it was a gutting defeat for the Peterborough Rep Side made even worse by the fact that some people it would seem wanted it that way.
maccaceltic
27-09-2007, 09:22
i think this doesent just count for Luke, there are many managers out there who have been let down by players. So in this case its exagerated to the extent that specs right, that one player makes a diffrence.
He might not be the reason they lost or won but when your playing and your exuasted & you look to the bench & nobody is there!
i played for Jube resies sat, we had 12 & not the fittest of 12 either, we started struggling with 2 or 3 players with 25 mins left. But we only had 1 sub, but what makes it worse is the 1st team game was called off 1hr before k.o so we could have had more players & yes i think that would have made a diffrence as we lost 2-0
carefree
27-09-2007, 09:32
yes i agree that you are gutted as i am too i wanted the rep side to progress. i'm also pleased that my psl lads did their bit and didn't let our club down, but why only name 3 subs? and tommy and myself have had dealings like this in the past with luke, in which he let us down a few times last season with a no show, your could have taken 4 plus a spare keeper.
so 2 wouldn't have got a game :soo: , but thats management. tommy's no prisoner attitude won us things last season and im a bit baffled as it would seem that the only reason for not taking the extra players was because maybe tommy didn't want them travelling and not getting played?
Tommy this isn't a dig my friend as you know me better then that and i certainly am not defending luke thackham.
i agree with you al. it's not like you'll be stopping people having a game if they dont get on as clubs had games cancelled due to this game
In tommy's defence Al it's a bit different to your usual club game whereas we met up at 10.00 and wouldn't have got back to Peterborough until at least 8 at night and for 2 players to come for that amount of time and not get a game is taking the pee a bit, with your club there's always next week or the week after.
JB the twist in all this is that all Prem games did get cancelled and those that went ahead were re-arranged by clubs who had no players on duty for the rep side, Alconbury chose to play seemingly without **** for brains who then doesn't turn up for us but plays for them, Alconbury knew at 10.45 that he hadn't turned up for the side but still let him play for them, what sort of message does that send out :soo:
Next time maybe the league should stick to no games as planned and other people suffer because of one person's selfishness
carefree
27-09-2007, 15:04
Tommy doesn't need to defend himself spec, as no 1 is attacking him, least of all me. i also understand why no extra players were taken and it makes sense, its just a shame that 1 person has let the whole league down. maybe next season we can learn from this and have a back up plan, like have 2-3 local based half decent players on standby or even while selecting the team ask if any would join the rep side as back up? i'm sure a few would be fine with this just to have a day out ect...

Had 2 friends of my mum approach me in the residents bar 'cos they couldn't get a drink and asked if I would discreetly get them one while I was buying a round, he offered me a tenner and I said don't worry about it it's only a couple of brandies, the barman served them and came over to me so I gave him a tenner, he goes to the till and comes back for another 8 quid!! the cheeky fcuker had got 2 trebles and fcuked off!!!
