Well I can't remember ever going to the Grange and winning.
We coped very well early on in all departments. The only half chances fell to Coates and maybe the lads should have done better. Pretty evenly matched teams pobably not performing as well as they should with a few miss placed passes. Coates' break through is brought about when Heron, who has caused problems for the Netherton defence, whips in an early cross for Hargrave to finish with a difficult header. Netherton have a couple of long range efforts and the best move of the half which cuts open the Coates defence, rounds the keeper, only for the goal bound shot to be cleared off the line.
Second half Netherton come out the stronger, as expected. Against the run of play, Coates get a corner with Heron this week rising like a well bread Atlatic Salmon to head the ball down into the net. With cries from the Netherton bench to lift the players, substitutions are made. It's a diferent game now. Enforced changes to the Coates line up also mean a re-shuffle. The substitutes make a real difference to the pace of the game. Putting Coates on the back foot. A long range effort detined for the top corner is parried by Higgins one handed then collected. Scotcher and Harrison? really start to make things happen, making the Coates defence work real hard. A free kick is nodded up into the air for Harrison? to hit home from 6yds. That really gets the home side going. Coates are only getting attacks going on the break with Gilbert having a great chance to score but for a fine save from the home keeper. Another break sees Heron stopped at the last gasp. Another break down the right with the ball being played square and a clinical finish from Birch, game over.
Summary. Could have been different if the Netherton subs had started ? Coates looked threatening going forward. Great result for Coates. Nice to see 2 teams try to play football for 90 mins without wanting to kick lumps out of one another. Looking forward to the return in 2 weeks time.
