Hi all.

This Sunday was supposed to be the Darren Wilburn Memorial Tournament, held at Chestnut Avenue. Due to an administrative error, the facilities at Dogsthorpe are not available. Thanks go out to Julian Spalding, however, who has kindly agreed to let us use the Silver Jubilee Tournament this weekend as a vehicle to collect for the Sue Ryder Home in Darren’s name.

Darren loved his football and started playing when he was nine years old for Newborough. He played for them for two years and then had a year at Whittlesey before enjoying 4 years at ICA. His manager at ICA was Wayne Mitchell who I now believe is connected with Silver Jubilee. He then went on to play for numerous Saturday teams and Star Inn on a Sunday (where he was my captain) and was playing for Perkins Reserves when he was taken ill. He was also an avid Liverpool fan.

He went into Thorpe Hall (Sue Ryder) and they made him very comfortable and cared for him really well.

This care and support for him and his family was second to none. Their efforts and also the services of ‘Hospital At Home’ meant that Darren was able to spend his final days with his family at home. For that Darren’s family cannot thank the two services enough.

Darren’s father Alan and his wife hope that all those involved in this event have an enjoyable day and that it is well supported. Details of the tournament for those still eager to join are listed below.

I will be organizing a collection for the Sue Ryder Foundation on the day and impress upon all of you, players/managers/spectators to donate generously.

Many thanks
