View Full Version : Tommy Cooper for Sports Pesonality of the year
It would be nice if we all cut our coupons out and gave Tom a vote for the category he has been nominated for. It would be great for the league's profile, and let's been honest he fully deserves it. Love him or loathe him he is a personality more than can be said for the other nominees. Who knows next year it could be Spec wiining it and Moulton as team of the year! Am sure Tom is too proud to ask but please cut out the coupons and give him a vote!
Al Lenihan is also for me the winner of the 'unsung hero'. He does loads for kids football and still finds the time to run a mens team. Many of the kids dont even have a pair of boots when they come to Psl.It is a very poor area, Al kits them out and brings there confidence and ability out, a real unsung hero.
I am sure you all have your own ideas but these are two it would be great for us all to vote in and put local football to the fore.
Any other ideas for other categories??
Kindest Regards
Jon
It's all well and good voting for Tommy but surely he needs to improve his appearance before he could be seen to be representing the league.
Diets don't cost anything and Florence & Fred do a great range of clothing at Hampton .....
well I don't think spec and the Hotpoint lads will be voting for tommy :scr:
I don't think my lads will be, I voted for him last year and will again this year if only to highlight our wonderful Premier Division but he doesn't help himself with his nonsense. It's times like this that he will realise he has shot himself in the foot.
I'm surprised there's no mention of support for Seb Hayes' nomination for 'Unsung Hero'.
Seb's been a breath of fresh air at Oundle and anyone involved with the Club would agree. He's brought in new, young players to establish a team long term, professional coaching, and really gets behind supporting the Club behind the scenes.
Along with this, he set up his own kids team three years ago. He has no kids/relatives of his own in this team, so had no ulterior motive to do so. And as it's his own team, he hasn't got the support that Club's like Bushfield, PSL, Wisbech etc. have, so who do you think does all the coaching, managing, fund raising and puts their own hand in the pocket when the kids need new kit, equipment etc? Surprising, Seb does!
As if that's not enough, he also finds the time to coach for an organisation called LittleKickers, coaching 2-5 year olds. Those of you with kids can imagine what it must be like to coach 1,2 or maybe 3 kids of that age, but what about 8, 10 or as many as 16 in a group? 'Patience of a saint' comes to mind.
But i guess the reason most of you don't know all this is because he doesn't shout about it, boast about it or moan about it. He just gets on with it because he loves the beautiful game and wants to give as much to it as possible can.
Is that not the true sign of an 'Unsung Hero'? He gets my vote hands down.
Good point and very well made! He sounds like an absolute top man and a very well deserved 'unsung hero'.
Spot on VIC and exactly what this site should be used for, It's not the Spec, Tommy etc roadshow and it certainly has never been my intention for it to be so, Seb gets my vote all day long, fair play to him (although he must be potty !!!)

Yep good call on Seb (who has gone a bit quiet lately, but then it is hard to get a bloody word in on here!!) - also agree with Al as a nomination.
Both guys who love their football as much as anyone and quietly do a great job - on previous site I used to say that we all have a different measure of success and AL & Seb are as succesfull as anyone in promoting the game
well said. fair play to the 2 of them local football needs more people who do those things. young players always remember people like that when they get older and always appreciate what they did for them and always carry a loyalty for them because if it wasn't for people like them we'd struggle to get started in this beautiful game!!
Thanks for the compliment Edson, I've coached a few broad's before usually in the bedroom though.
Broads?? Are you referring to their figures Spec?
They all need lovin!!

I must be a an absolute nailed on certainty now that I have had my nomination endorsed by Alan Swann in the ET last night (though the fact that they only sell 50 copies on a Bank Holiday might not help!)
In all seriousness however, he did mention Lawrence Derrante and I do think that it was about time that someone as committed and dedicated as Lawrence is properly recognised - I also feel that Mark Baines had such an influencial 2005 for both Ortonians and the Royal Oak that he is as deserving of the footballer of the year award as anyone.
Time for the talking to stop and the voting to start - other than Derek Vernum not sure local football has done too well in these awards and we need to get off our backsides and do something about it.
ive been reliably informed that someone matching tommy coopers
description was spotted buying a large number of copies of the evening telegraph over at rainbow today!!!!!
i wonder , surely he wouldn't stoop so low as to try and deceive the counting of votes for the 2006 sports awards????
i mean tommy, theres being competive and theres going to far!!!
can u reply to these scandalous acusations please,
im sure u will.

As I am away on holiday in the Gambia on the night of the awards ceremony, I am happy to confirm that I have taken no interest in these awards this year, depite coming a close up 4th last year.
If I had been around I would have been buying a lot more than 200 copies of the paper, as that was the number of votes I got last year and it wasn't enough!
I have been encouraging people to vote for Mark Baines as I think he deserves to be recognised.

Well Spec I do at least have 1 good result to talk about.
Remember that 5/1 to a score I gave you on whether or not a wedding would take place in 2006? - it's all off!
Said individual did give me some interesting info on identity of Posh Kid, who I am sure is on a big wind up trip - it would appear that someone else we both know "hijacked" his identity for a post on here, so there are now 2 Posk Kids.
I know about the first bit Tommy but my diplomacy stopped me from broadcasting it all over the internet !!!!!
Posh Kid wouldn't be the same person would it ?????

Indeed, and whilst at Lunch with said individual today I agreed that I would depersonalize my posting - but no not the same person as Posh Kid impersonator - I will keep that 1 back for a rainy day!

come on tommy were is the fun in finding something out and not telling any one especially as now i have time to kill leg in plaster mate going to be on site a bit more now. thanks for the lift of the pitch on sat gino and thought you were robbed of a couple pens ha ha
Received a text from single man immediately after your posting and aware of suspected individual, perhaps you should inform afore mentioned individual how little time it took me to unravel your aliases a couple of months ago even though you had left a sophisticated trail behind you, especially as he has had a little dig at me this morning as well !!
Posh Kid can run but what can't he do Tommy ???

Interesting stuff I agree, though of course all we have done is unravell the Posk Kid imposter and not the original Posh Kid, who must have been bloody surprised to see a posting he didn't make. He must feel the net closing in on him - will he show himself again knowing that his ID has been infiltrated?
Single man also has interesting info on possible original Posh Kid identity, which acknowledges the Netherton connection.
Interesting in the et tonight about Tommy and his straws. will he use them when they play Hotpoint I dont think so
Spectrocelli strikes again !! The imposter has been traced and he knows it although I admire his honesty at no denial, Tommy it is p*****g down outside.........
(spectrocelli is an attempt to emulate one of my favourite private detectives of the late 70's for you young Netherton boys out there, told you I was boring).
Wouldn't matter Topband anyway ha ha ha ! Interesting though Tommy that on this site you are doing your best to keep up with us although you are in front, yet in the ET you are still confident of winning the league, perhaps the circulation difference affects your judgement at times.

Now everyone knows the surname of the Posh Kid will he bother to come on site again knowing that someone may expose his true identity
Now those Indians are good cricketers and make bloody good curries

Reason I prefer to come on here is that your words appear exactly as you say and mean them - guy asks me if I still think we can win it, I have got to say yes. I say that Pinchbeck's penalty award was generous, and in print it is "I don't think it was a penalty" - subtle differences in language turn something from a polite observation into criticism of the ref
We give Bainsey a week off and he still has his picture plastered over the paper - he must have some agent!
Intend just having a bit of fun in the ET for the rest of the season - will send you a PM Spec for the reason
No worries Matt and cheers
