Thorneyboy,

Sounds like you had a close game on sat mate.

Your results suggest you blow hot and cold mate?!! Any reasons?

Predictions:

Werrington Town V Coates Athletic

Final = Coates v Stilton, coates to win it

PFA Junior Cup Quarter-Finals

AFC Fletton Reserves V Oundle Town Reserves
Deeping Sports Reserves V Hampton Athletic Reserves
Long Sutton Reserves or Werrington Town Reserves V Perkins Sports Res
Stamford Belvedere Reserves V Whittlesey Utd Res or Langtoft United Res

Final = Whittlesey Res v Perkins Res, Perkins to win on penalties

PFA Minor Cup Quarter-Finals

Doddington United Res or Stamford Bels A V Chatteris Town A
Kings Cliffe United Res V Eye Sports & Social Res
Peterborough Sports Res V Ramsey Town A
Uppingham Town Res V March St Marys Res

Dave - Saturday could have gone either way and ultimately it was naive defending at set pieces that was the difference.
Saturday sums up our season so far though - it has generally been good week, bad week but on that basis Saturday was our good week so I fear this week!
To be fair to the lads we have had some knocks - losing 4 first team players in the first few weeks of the season has stretched the squad in terms of quality and then a seemingly endless injury and unavailability list makes things worse. I lost 4 players on Friday night / Saturday morning and ended up taking two players from the pub who thought they were off to March to play for the ressies.

I'm sure we'll be ok once we get the side settled and perhaps add a bit of quality. Just glad I'm not the Reserve manager cos when everyone's back he's gonna have about 20 players over!

Bratts,

I'm not going to start predicting who'll win it etc, but looking at the draw there are some dam good teams...

Manea United V Ramsey Town or March St Marys
Manea got to the final last year and have strengthened so they will be looking at this with a view of winning it!!
Fancy Ramsey to beat March, these boys are on fire at the moment in the league so could be a quality quarter final!!

Real March V Sawtry
Sawtry to progress here!

Stilton United V Kings Cliffe United
Stilton will fancy this game too and i think they will be too strong for Kings Cliffe

Werrington Town V Coates Athletic
I don't know a lot about Werrington, but i know we were gutted last year not to lift one of the cups, so i am sure all of the lads will be up for the cup games this year. So on that basis IF we play to our potential (which we haven't been of late) and one or two of our injured players return to full fitness - we can win this one.

As for the semis -

Ramsey, Sawtry, Stilton and Coates for me. Although i am sure Yido and his mob will want to prove me wrong as will the rest of them!!

I for one would love to see a Stilton v Coates final think it would be a cracker!!

CAFC

I would go for Ramsy or Coates against Sawtry or Stilton. Not because I think thats what it would be, just that is what it should be about. Same as the Senior Cup, a chance to have a go against teams at a higher level.

Not quite the FA cup !

CoatesFC - Dave
01-11-2007, 13:39
I would just like to break our duck of 3 semi's in this comp without getting to the final!!

Like Ginger Mourinho said, i'm sure Coates or Ramsey V Stilton or Sawtry would make for a good final.

Got the quarters to contend with yet, am sure Manea will fancy another Div 1 scalp so could it be an all Div 2 final? Who knows!!

Yido Manae i think you have a Chance but fromform and players in teams i think that Stilton v Coates would be a belter. But then again i am sure that this is what this website is all about, putting your OWN opinion across!! :gun:

yido manea
01-11-2007, 21:41
yeah you right it would be a belter but i cant see it being that to be fair, and as for us beating ramsey i dont think we will as they have got some good players this year!! but we will see watch this space.

Easy tiger. Oh no thats right you aint a tiger anymore.

I don't think you will beat Ramsey but that don't mean that I don't think you are any good. You have the toughest draw on paper, I wouldn't fancy anyone beating Ramsey at the minute.

I spoke to Yido after the game on sat and he said the result was a fair one and that Manea didn't play badly!!! - on that basis i don't think anyone left in the draw will want to be playing Ramsey should they get into the semi's!!!!

Would'nt be the best draw. We have Kings Cliffe this week, obviously a steady side if you only beat them by one Dave?

CoatesFC - Dave
19-11-2007, 13:36
Gazza - Kings Cliff were a very well organised and good footballing team mate.

We were happy with our performance as a whole - altough still think there is more to come and we was def happy with the win!

By all accounts it depends on what team they get out as to what sort of side they are, but based on saturdays game, they are certainly better than what the league suggests and are a team not to be taken likely!!

Some good teams left in the draw still. I don't think any of the quarters are easy!!!

I don't think we'd of argued much if it ended in a draw, but a moment of brilliance from Kev set up a late winner for us!!

GAZZA
26-11-2007, 11:42
You were correct Dave, solid side, 2 very good strong lads up front, i can't believe their league position. There is no way they have had that team all season and won so few games.

Stilton started very well and KC struggled to get out of their half let alone create any meaningful chances in the first 20 minutes, the tone of the game was already set with Stilton spurning early opportunities and the centre of the park looking more like a kung fu fight with flying kicks and flailing limbs causing tempers to flair in both teams. In typical cup tie fashion, the team under the cosh took the lead, a cross from the right was met on the volley by an on rushing and due to Stilton being temporarily down to 10 men, unmarked midfielder.

The game then continued with Stilton applying most of the pressure but KC had now gained confidence and were looking more like the challenge we had geared ourselves up for. Five minutes later Figo's pace combined with a lack of concentration at the back for KC let the Stilton winger in to level the contest.

The game was a fierce contest and it was so tight the only way to get space was to switch the play, enter Bainesy, picked the ball up right on the left touchline, he beat one man with his first touch then another with his second before lauching a driven pass 50 yards into the wind to find Figo on the right who jumped to control it on his chest, he lined up the defender before a couple of Ronaldo step overs left him for dead and the keeper could do nothing about the finish, breath taking football which nobody could do anything about. 2-1.

Not long after Stilton had a free kick on the edge of the area after Mark Baines was brought down, he stepped up to stick the ball in the net after a somewhat fortuitous deflection from the wall. 3-1 Halftime.

The second half began with KC fired up looking for a way back, the first 10 minutes were quite comfortable for Stilton, but you could sense it was the calm before the storm. A bit of space lead to a shot from KC which hit the post and rebounded straight to the feet of their impressive striker, game on. 3-2.

More pressure from KC with the occasional break from Stilton followed for the next 15 minutes, all of a sudden Stilton started to take a bit of control once more and chances started to be created and spurned. Stilton looked dead certs to score again but KC were always dangerous, but that thought 'are we going to regret this?' kept creeping in. With 5 minutes left an overlapping Ozzie down the right squared the ball to R Baines who could'nt beat the keeper, he launched the ball to the left winger who attacked the space vacated be the rampaging full back, a quick one two and a neat chip found the net after an agonising chase by Tom Douse which only left the Stilton sweeper floundering in the net like a stunned trout.

Extra time beckoned but not before Stilton and notably 'im so accurate' Mark Baines could waste another golden opportunity, a chance we will not see him miss again for a long time. He went through one final time but his left footed shot was well dealt with by the keeper, a desperate lunge from the defender made Mark's landing awkward and he had to be substituted.

It looked bleak for the unbeaten home side, but the strength of the squad showed through as a couple of injuries last week and couple on Saturday meant some of Stilton's most reliable men were sidelined, however everyone pulled through together and they took it to KC who gave as good as they got. In the last minute of ET when the manager was thinking about who will take a pen, 3 consecutive corners lead to a fine header and a first ever goal from centre half Craig Pulloneoff (can't spell his name) what a time to score your first.

Full time 4-3 Stilton, we go marching on.
Get in!!!
Even game, we had more chances, but that does'nt matter could have gone either way.

Can't believe the Coates result, what happened Dave?

Where do i start.....

Not going to make excuses about missing a couple of key players becuase that would not be fair on werrington.

They had one or two different players from the team we beat 2-0 a fortnight ago and one or two changes to our starting 11 also meant that this was going to be a different game completely to the one a fortnight ago.

We had a good chance to score early doors but our forward hit it over. From then on we didn't look impressive at all.

They scored the first from a corner, that resulted in our keeper on the floor for a few mins. Not saying it was def a foul but i've seen them given!! Anyway 1-0 to werrington and a deserved lead.

There was a few dodgy decisions from a poor ref and one or two questinable offsides but i was the other lino so couldn't see whether right or wrong!!

Into the second half and we was playing into the an increasing wind...we had two choices stick with (not working) or make a few tactical changes and give it a go... (obviously didnt work either!!). As we pressed for an equaliser Werrington used the wind, pacey forwards and also non existant defenders to secure a 3-0 lead with bout 20mins to go!!

We had all 3 subs on and was still not giving up, managed to get one, but in truth never looked capable of getting back into it.

In summary - not a good performance, not the first this season, but the first to really get punished. I hope this result kicks a few arses into gear and that we re-group at training on thursday and work together to find out what went wrong.

A monumental improvement is needed on Saturday as we are at home to a very strong Ramsey team who WILL dish out a severe beating if we play like we did on sat!!

I personally blame the manager for dropping me - haha!!!!

When is the draw for the Semi Finals?

CAFC
26-11-2007, 15:04
One of many bad decisions on the day. Started with getting out of bed and ended with going to town. Too old for town.

We did say that last time we played Werrington they were not that bad and never mind some of the decisions, including mine. We got what we deserved. Back to the good old drawing board. Not bad though, first defeat in maybe 20 games. God was it a bad one though.

Just what we needed before Ramsey. No beer Fri lads.

CoatesFC - Dave
26-11-2007, 15:49
We certainly got that - nothing!!

Keep ya chin up ginger megson, our last defeat was the cup final in April - so no need to panick just yet.........just need a massive improvement before saturday!!!

As for the draw...they are usually done when all cups have played another round so not sure mate!
