View Full Version : Why do Ortonians always beat Hotpoint?
Tommy Trophy

Interesting debtae this one - Hotpoint are every bit our equal on paper but not on grass - survey the facts: -
10/01/04 - One of Spec's first games in charge, and a routine 4-0 win for Ortonians with Fovargue (2), Ayres & Darcy scoring.
08/05/04 - Played in the long grass at Werrington. Hotpoint play well first half and lead 1-0. Ortonians come out 2nd half and blow them away, finding out midway through the half that Whittlesey's win at Moulton makes Ortonians Champions. I take off 3 players to save them for the PFA Senior Cup final (duly won) and we play champagne football. Gomes (2), Bradley & Twigden on target.
18/09/04. I fly back from a stag do in Barcelona to attend this PFA cup game. Hotpoint start well and take the lead. Balti equalizes just before half time, and it is champagne football from Ortonians in the 2nd half with 2 goals from Ayres and 1 from Baines. We go on to win the cup.
30/10/04. Hotpoint single success 1-0 with a hotly disputed penalty from Bradley 12 minutes from time. Hotpoint spend the rest of the game camped in their own 6 yard box but hang on for a lucky win.
11/12/04. 5th meeting in 2004. This time Ortonians take the lead through Baines, but Hotpoint hit back with an offside equaliser, missed by the too fair linesman. Ayres put Ortonians back in front before half time and in the 2nd half it is champagne football from Ortonians who add a 3rd from Davison.
05/02/05. Ortonians have an incredible 8 players missing for this game. Hotpoint pull in Paul Hill from Soham in a desparate attempt to win this Hunts Cup game whilst Ortonians having Cooper, Dean & Randle on the bench. Graham Morris gives Hotpoint the lead at half time. In the 2nd half it is champagne football from Ortonians once again with goals from Baines (2) & Randle. Glen Bolden even goes to Left Back for a while to try and even things up a bit. Ortonians go onto to make the final.
10/09/05 Hotpoint have signed half of Peterborough, arrive at Campbell Drive top of the league and take the lead with a deflected own goal from a corner. Baines hits back with an equalizer. In the 2nd half it is champagne football from Ortonians with goals from Ayres and Bolden sealing a 3-1 victory and Ortonians take over at the top.
P7 W6 D0 L1 F21 A6 - no win by less than 2 goals
This is of course a completely impartial summary of our games with Hotpoint and I shall let you decide if we have been lucky or not!

Tommy "for facts sake" stoppit!!!!!!!
All that champagne..............hic....hic.... :pty2:
LIKE I SAID ,CANT WAIT TO PLAY ORTONIANS
:mabub: is this brads and spec ????
Unfortunately I have not had time to read this forum the last couple of days and the only day I get to see it is the early hours of Sunday morning which would probably say to many people that I have had a drink so I will wait until tomorrow to give my opinion but Robbo and Tommy if you are at the Oak v Westwood game in the morning give me a wide berth.
we always do spec . wish i had gone now could not make it worked nights . roll on Hotpoint bring em on :surr:
Read your previous match reports against us Tommy with interest, not quite a true reflection but wouldn't expect anything else, but like I said in the previous post what's done is done and you beat us well done.
You have won your trophies as you so often remind everybody and well done again for that, I was genuinely pleased for you and when you were on the brink of being thrown out the PFA Cup this season nobody was more vociferous with their support for you than I was, I love your banter on here as much as anybody and I give it as much as I take it where you're concerned, but you are now on the brink of being labelled as a sad and bitter old man.
Only two weeks ago you were having a drink with me and begging me not to spoil your fun after I had uncovered your other names on here as you in your own words "just wanted to have a bit of harmless fun under other names because I feel people only respond to posts because it's from me."
Are you sure It's not because you haven't the balls to say to people's faces what you can get away with by writing under another name.
I am well aware of the reasons for the digs at me, I am attracting players these days that you used to sign for fun in Ortonians heyday, but that's the big difference now isn't it, you won all your trohies when there wasn't that much opposition about after Eye had moved out of the league, probably 2 or 3 sides to get past to win anything, but now our Premier league is the best it's been what's happening to you.
1) You can't get anyone to sign for you anymore
2) Another of your players has asked to come to Hotpoint
3) Your team spirit is at rock bottom
4) Your committee don't even come and watch your games
5) The bare minimum turn out again Saturday
6) Your rambling and ranting against fellow League managers
7) You are going to finish your final season without any of your precious trophies on your sideboard
8) And nobody takes you seriously or likes you anymore !
Well done Tom if that's what your goal was but I don't think it was, I think all of this gobbing off and being the centre of attention has spectacularly backfired on you, you are losing a lot of respect from those very few people in local football who still have any left for you, but never mind your trusty assistant manager will still be there to talk about the good old days if he isn't working or up North watching real football.
What you can't handle with dignity is other people coming along to challenge your self titled 'personality' or 'success' as a manager, all your ramblings smack of an above average manager who happened to run a side in the Premier League at the right time when it's strength left a hell of a lot to be desired and now things are a lot tougher in our league you are trying to divert the fact that your team is on the decline. Should you win it this year which you won't then you will prove me wrong, but I know and I even think you know deep down that your days in Peterborough football have been and gone, your continuing ridiculing and arrogance has finally caught up with you.
I apologise for the text message I sent in the early hours of Sunday morning when I called you a prize *****, perhaps I over reacted and you will probably claim that as a trophy as you're so desperate this season.
I would genuinely liked to have remembered you as a half decent manager and good company in your final season but alas it is not to be.
As Robbo said "BRING ON HOTPOINT", See you both soon (if you can get a side out)
Surprised you're biting Spec, then again it would take a saint not to!
I wonder what the Ortonians players think of their publicity seeking manager?
I wouldn't appreciate playing for a manager who is constantly winding up the opposition, the main result of this is going to be the teams in the league who don't have a lot to play for will be looking forward to putting one over Ortonians and their big mouthed manager.
could not of put it better myself . but got to say and hate to say this you have bit spec and tommyc will love that . this is now the biggest game of the season can't wait :wtg:
over to you tommyc can't wait for your reply
1) You can't get anyone to sign for you anymore ,,,,(don't need no one but just signed new player watch this space )
2) Another of your players has asked to come to Hotpoint ,,,( filled that gap already like i said watch this space )
3) Your team spirit is at rock bottom ,,,,( I looked after the team last sat could not be better)
4) Your committee don't even come and watch your games ,,,,(true)
5) The bare minimum turn out again Saturday ,,,( had some players away this happens still won the game 1st time long sutton had 15 players and not 10 or the bare 11 )
6) Your rambling and ranting against fellow League managers ,,,,( it makes him happy )
7) You are going to finish your final season without any of your precious trophies on your sideboard ,,,( I will love it if we win it )
8) And nobody takes you seriously or likes you anymore ! ,,,( that makes him happy 2 I evan hate him. but he always seems to have the last word on here )
????? but never mind your trusty assistant manager will still be there to talk about the good old days if he isn't working or up North watching real football.( some of us have to work for a living . real football in the toon don't think so not with that scotch jock in charge .
As Robbo said "BRING ON HOTPOINT", See you both soon (if you can get a side out) don't worry we will have a side . then we will see who is the last one standing at the bar ( like I said bring the f###er on )
number 9 get down 2 this game if not shut the f### up :hbgr:
Iam not sure what to make of Spec and Tommy falling out probably a big wind up.
But lot of truth in wot Spec says Tommy may be coming to the end of reign but three trophies and Hunts final ( two charity shileds) is not bad and he might even had to it but it does look like Moulton for the title if they can cope with recent injuries
But look at Spec at Hotpoint no trophies so far and yet a team of so called stars if they dont win a pot this season how will Spec explain the flop
Interesting who the new signing Hotpoint are making from ortoninas is I just hope it is better than the last two with Brads and Darcy

Dearest Spec
Many thanks for your text message at 1am on Saturday night. At the time I was engaged in deep and meaningfull conversation with 3 girls from our Sunderland call centre at our company do in Birmingham, which went on until 5am and was a fantastic evening I believe
I dismissed the message as a prank, or thought that someone might have got hold of your phone following one of those wild and wacky nights for which Hotpoint are rightly renowned, so lacking in your normal wit and wisdom was its content. If offensive was intended, please accept my apologies for not having taken any.
I did not feel that my humourous if cutting little ditty required such a comprehensive response, but I thank you for such a fascinating cocktail of fact and fiction.
Rest assured I shall be taking some of your comments on board and conducting myself as befits the leading light in local management going forward.
I must however express my surprise at you going "Keegan" on me, below that cool calm exterior of yours must sit a troubled soul?
Rest assured however that I shall write this outburst down to experience and that it will not have any impact on our long standing relationship. I await with interest the common courtesy of a phone call to let me know which of my players I am about to lose, though I have a good idea.
However until then, I remain as always, your dear friend - Tommy
Not remotely an outburst Tommy, just struggle to understand your logic in all of this, the difference between me and you is that you run your side for your own benefit and publicity, I took over Hotpoint to keep a side from nearly folding and have no real interest in going any further in football management as you well know, nothing will ever beat that buzz of being a player (quite successful as well) and part of a good dressing room spirit and a good social craic afterwards. When you become a manager it all changes because I want my players to experience what I did by winning things and to do that you have to make some tough decisions and upset people who then hold it against you for the rest of your life !!!
I dont have the time or the inclination to respond to your petty digs at me or other people and as for doing a 'Keegan' I think that sums up how seriously you do take your life because comparing our amateur status to professional football shenanigans shows just how out of touch with reality you really are, It's a bit of fun Tommy, winning is just a bonus not the be all and end all and certainly not worth making yourself a target everytime you go out for a drink.

Not sure if I am on the receiving end of a massive wind up here, given the completely out of context and out of character nature of the response but still - happy to play along for a bit if it is providing amusement.
It is only through this completely irrelevant site, with only 80 or so members, most of whom do not use there own name, that I give any form of what could be considered "stick" with tongue firmly planted in gob, and treat the whole thing as just a bit of fun.
Through the ET with its 30,000 distribution or whatever it is I have not made a SINGLE derogotory comment about a referee, club or opponent this season (sorry - or any of my own players either!) - hardly publicity seeking. I can not be blamed if the ET chose to put me in for the Sports Personality Award again, though given that they have also put up Lee Minett & Jimmy Watson it is more about recognising our succeses, and I am not about to start apologising for that.
And I can count on the fingers of no hands the times that I have got in trouble whilst out drinking over anything connected with football.
If this post means I have bit then hands up and guilty your honour.
It's not a question of anybody biting or getting wound up, certainly not from my point of view anyway, the whole point of this site was to give the Peterborough football league a boost in terms of raising it's profile and attracting the better players of the town to stay in our league irrespective of who they are playing for instead of wandering off to a supposed better standard of football in the UCL, and the reason that this season is the best in terms of a hell of a lot of good sides is specifically because of that.
I know at least ten players who have been offered good terms to go and do that but have decided to stay where they are because of the rivalry and standard of football being played in the Prem.
To get to my point Tommy, the reason we are being ridiculed in the ET is simply because they all read this site and your comments are the main contribution to them asking if we take ourselves too seriously, I am well aware that a lot of your comments are tongue in cheek and like I've said before I find them very funny and bloody good entertainment value, but a small minority of it is a cover up for you to have cheap digs at actual clubs and not individuals. I can take your banter till the cows come home and I give you as good as I get when we have a drink now and again but If you are going to have a pop at the club who I am associated with, then however out of character you think I might be, of course I am going to come back with some views of my own.
I don't want you to stop your **** taking at all, in fact yours are the first posts I look out for, but you can be very funny without getting too personal and making us all out to look as though we think we are Wengers, Mourinho's or Fergusons. You know my feelings on football management, It's the worst thing I have ever got involved in and like I said before I only carry on doing it for my players.
Roll on 3.45 Saturday when we are finished for 3 weeks !!!!
Merry Xmas to all of you anyway and a brilliant New Year, I've said enough now !!
Spec
Nice sentiment Spec, there was even a truce called during the 1st world war on Christmas day when the soldiers came out of the trenchs and palyed football against each other, and before you come up with it
Mr Cooper yes the Tommy's did win!
Peace brothers!

Yep fair comments those Spec and well made (well better made than the last few!). They have started to read the site at the ET, so might have to become boring on here as well as in the paper.
Whole topic was a response to comments around our being lucky against Hotpoint and I was pointing out that I did not feel this could be considered the case - and as ever I made a bloody good job of going to town in an attempt to make that point - no research required as like a sad bloke I have it all in spreadsheets.
You know I genuinely have a great affection for a club I played for and managed for a number of years in Hotpoint, but in recognising that you are probably a better side than us, this was all part of my plan B.
Well done for signing Matt Leftley, though unless there has been a rule change allowing 5-5-4 formations he wil just add to your selection dilemma?

Sorry wtfamu (hope that's right) to be picky, but it was the Germans who won the game 3-2, though it had to be abandoned when the ball burst on some barbed wire. Apparently the "Tommys" kicked the **** out of the Germans so it was not quite as friendly as it has been romanticaly portrayed since.
However your sentiments over a truce are well made and it is time to move on.
Question is who or what to? - feel too sorry for Gino & Perkins at the moment - would like to say I know what you are going through, but to be honest I don't!
Didn't Netherton get beat last week?

yeah went to watch them .they did lose 4-1 . they were not that good. . . why? bit of a random comment

Strange defeat Eddie when you consider Ortonians Res beat them last year and several of your Netherton players took part in the game
Which Wilson is the better manager Alan or Marcel I ask
eddie c s

strange defeat, strange game. . . ill leave the judgement on the manager but if its based solely on these 2 results then i guess its alan
Played in that game was a bit of a strange game and i think a 4 -1 scoreline was a bit flattering couple of individual errors for the first two goals - also must admit me missing a penalty at 2 -1 down didnt help our cause! but excuses excuses at the end of the day we got beat end of!
they have one lad up front who by rights should be playing lot higher Moses quality player.
as for the managers never met the other wilson so cant comment but judging the two over a period of two fixtures yep thats a real good suggestion that one that really makes sense :mnn:
Gilly.
You're right Gooner. Played against Mosley last year and he's playing well below his potential. Could easily walk into Depping's first team.
I heard the reason he didn't play for Deeping last year was 'cos he was at Uni and wasn't around every Sat but i think he's been a regular for Sports this season. Seems as though the 1st Division is just as tight as the Prem. Can only be good news for the Peterborough league in seasons to come :dncr
