management team will be AL lenihan and pat o'keeffe.

there has been many rumours that all the top players are leaving psl for the UCL. all im saying is we will have a stronger team for next season and we intend to defend our titles.

Thats good to hear al as im sure this goes for every1 you always want to play against the best players in the league and the best teams in the area to see how you compare to them and you can learn alot from this.

Certainly this summer looks like being no different than previous years with us managers scrambling around trying to sign on the same players.

Bit different for me this year in so much as I am not in direct competition with Peterborough League managers as players could sign for both - I can't actually sign anyone yet as the UCL is reprinting the signing on books anyway.

So taking a softly softly approach and suggesting to players that they might want to come and have a look pre-season and both take it from there without showing the desperation that some clubs do (in Peterborough Prem and the UCL)

Unfortunately that does mean I am speaking either personally or indirectly to PDFL players, and we do have the advantage of having a modest budget to cover expenses etc. which appeals to some players - sure PSL will be very strong next year and fair play to you Al if you manage to keep all of your guys out of the clutches of people like me, Yaxley, Deeping, Bourne etc. etc. as I know that they have some familiar names on their shopping lists as well.

The first year we won the league at Ortonians we lost Jon Patten to Yaxley and Ian Fovargue, Lee Tyler & Aaron Bannie to PNS - winning the league puts you in the spotlight and attracts that sort of attention which is both a compliment and a pain in the arse. If PNS are succesful this year then I will face exactly the same situation myself I suppose for the following year?

i think you understood my views when we had a little chat at the pfa cup final tommy?

if you remember i said to you if you wanted joe duffy's number i would give it to you, so i wasn't having a dig at you at all in the recent piece in the ET (i was pleased how mark wrote it by the way), even if you have spoke to other psl boys, jamie sam ect which i know you have. anyway i think most know where i was pointing my finger!!!

and your right in what you say, with success brings attention from higher clubs, but this is a test of all managers at all levels and by me keeping my title winning side together will show my strength as a newly crowned sucessful manager.

if any PSL player goes pre-season with a ucl club rather then taking part in our pre-season then they can stay there. as for signing for both well i do sign a couple of ucl players each year as cover for mid week games but as for psl players doing the same back for a ucl side? this i don't allow as it mess's up our chances in the pfa cup comp.. if and when we go out of the pfa cup then i suppose it my be ok, but even then it can restrict my selection for games.

the pboro league is a gateway for ref's (well use to be) players and managers such as ourselfs to get into the UCL and i to expect to manage there one day too.

Fair do Al - didn't see the ET report myself but was told about it Monday, which is why I wrote my piece. Can honestly say that I have not personally spoken to any PSL players though a couple of "potential players" have AND vice versa - I don't have any players at all yet as I can't sign anyone on and I think it is quite normal for players to pal up and possibly look to play together the following season etc. and yep would be interested if those guys you mentioned showed any desire to try their luck a little higher next year.

Personally think going through a manager to get a players number is taking the **** and the first thing I would do if that happened to me would be get on the phone to the player myself - besides you were so confident when I gave you the courtesy of telling you I would have liked to speak to Joe Duffy that I would be mad to waste my time!!

To be honest though most of my targets are higher than UCL 1 rather than below it, but it is a question of whether or not people will drop down for a year in order to one day go even higher.

Are ground improvements at Chestnut Avenue on the cards, Tommy?

About time too Tommy. Nothing worse than getting changed in those pre war standard facilities. I know Derek Vernum used to love them but they were top draw when he was playing !!!!

Don't want to hijack thread as it is about PSL next season.

Last word on the subject is that UCL clubs have always tried to take the better players out of the Peterborough League, will be doing so this pre-season and will do so in the future and I am no different in that respect - I am now in a different league where the stakes are raised and there is no limit to my ambition.

Every manager worth his salt knows that getting a mate to speak to a player first is always the best door opener - christ it even happens with England (Gerrard and Owen etc.), and here the first enquiry actually came back the other way.

Think it is something of an irrelevant argument in so much as I have absolutely no idea what my starting team will look like on August 18th other than it will be very decent and also that I believe whatever side Al puts out, PSL will make a good fist of defending their title

Al, Tommy. It is far to early to talk about players as people will chop and change before pre season and also will train with many clubs!! Al I can not see you turning Jamie, duane, ben away etc.. if they train and sign for UCL clubs and also sign for PSL!!!

As for Tommy, he linked with lots of players and I know he wants some from higher and some from P'boro league (who could play higher) to get a good side but people will say yes and no, as some like him and some don't!!

PSL are a good club and many will stay but some will leave as it is inevitable!! Whatever Al you will have a good side and challenge again and me for one would love to see you manage in the UCL !!

See Tommy has announced his first signing with "Tommys son" or "Boy wonder" or whatever you know him as joining. Great signing and hopefully one of a few he is looking at to get the club going in the right direction!!

Heard all the PSL boys are staying which is great for the P'boro league and Al as they can then look to win it again (harder to do than win it the first time) although feel whittlesey & Mr Minett might have something to say about it!! :soo:

Just read an amusing piece from Clippo about Yaxley not competing with Peterborough Northern Star amoungst others - now Clippo and I go back a long way and he is a top man, but I fear his memory must be failing him!

Mark Paul will pull in twice as much a week as any of the PNS players (I know because I tried to sign him and have seen the text messages - plus add in the amount per goal!)

Also Jon & Eddie Patten both joined me for the same as they were on at Yaxley last season.

It's true as I have said before that we have a modest (by my standards!) budget to play with - its a question of putting my money where my mouth is (which could accommodate a couple of million comfortably!)

On that piece as well I notice that Luke & Sam have both gone to Yaxley Al - I did speak to Joe out of curiousity but naturally you were right in your assertion that he would not leave! - big loss though those other 2?

to be honest it was almost impossible to keep my whole team from last season, but i think i have done an ok job, what with so many players leaving the pboro prem i still think we have a shout at the title again, Luke needed the £25 as he is a young lad without a job and sam has told me due to work commitment he will find his saturday availibility very limited, im not bitter about it and wish all the lads who played their hearts out for me last season the very best and thankyou.

it will be hard for psl to retain the title due to jamie and ben 112 days, joe and brett 35 days suspended, all starting 3-9-2007. but we are still the champions until the end of season 2007/08

i have drafted in some replacements who i am sure will keep the balance for the club.

Impressive win last night Al. Huntingdon are saying they had 8 players out but 4-1 has to be a good win no matter what side they had.

should have been alot more tommy, yes they did have several out so im told but any ucl side should have a 1st team of 18-20 players surely? or in your case 50 lol

i also had afew out , had reserve goalkeeper who had a blinder made two great saves, but thats his job, hunts keeper was by far under the most pressure had to make several saves to keep the score down,

missing from our team: richie roberts, ben lawrence, gareth sanderson, dwayne rankin, james horner, paul attfield and chris brown.

that team we faced last night would've struggled in div 1 of the peterborough league! as al has already said for a ucl team to have a 50/50 mix of 1st and res's and be so poor is shocking as we had a 50/50 split ourselves.

i dont think its an over exaggeration to say it'd probably have got in to double figures for psl with a full strength starting 11.
