View Full Version : Perkins current form ?
Can anyone explain Perkins current form ? On paper a very good side but they seem to underperfom. Went to watch them against Alconbury in Cup semi and while they had a decent first half they didn't take the few chances they created. Second hald Alconbury started very brightly and used the wind well. They went one up and looked good. Perkins managed to play themselves back into it but schoolboy error at the back gave Alconbury a 2 - 0 lead. From then on they looked comfortable. Then this week I hear Perkins got beat 4- 0, what happened, watched Perkins beat Fletton in the Cup early in the season and to be honest Perkins were the better side. Have Fletton improved that much Spec ? or was it another bad day for Perkins ? :soo:

anything can happen in a semi final and alconbury are playing well at the moment. so no real shock there
as for this weeks result, it offen happens that when you can't win anything and your season is over that you under perform. plus maybe they are still hung over from last weeks defeat?
perkins will be alright after this and will be in the top 6 im sure.
Yes we have improved Mick, quite dramatically actually! simple reason being I had players available to play in their proper positions, because we have such a small squad we only need one or two unavailable and we have to totally change the formation of the side, play players out of position and there is no continuity.
Perkins had the best side out they could get apart from possibly Danny Clifton being missing, they gifted us a couple of goals but that's only because my front 2 ran their socks off and hassled them all the time.
Perkins knocked the ball about very well and played well but they did it in areas that were never going to hurt us and we let them get on with it, they are a good side but on our day we are as good as anyone in the league and fully deserved the win.
Predicted at the start of the season that I would be delighted with a top 4 finish and pick up a cup along the way after all that went on pre-season, we won the Jack Hogg trophy (which if i'm honest wasn't the cup we really wanted) was cheated out of a Hunts Cup Final place and are on target for a top 4 finish which would be target reached, wouldn't have thought Alec and Gino would be at all happy about finishing out of the top 4 though.

Luv it Spec - I don't remember you being so charitable about my couple of Jack Hoggs! (why was you cheated out of the Hunts?)
I said a couple of years ago that one of the least favourable traits of the Peterborough League was how sides "gave it up" once xmas and the chance of winning something had gone, but I am sure AL & Gino will have Perkins up for their next game as Fletton seem to have done once the disappointment wears off.
For those of you remotely interested in my travels - have now arrived in Antigue via Martinique, Dominique & Guadaloupe and off to West Indies v Australia tomorrow which everyone is a bit excited about (West Indies team staying next door, though security is now something else)
Did have a chat with Michael Atherton at St Lucia airport Sunday morning and he thinks Bob Woolmer thing was betting related - he asked me what I was doing with myself on Saturday's now after Ortonians demise - tolding him I was getting by but missing the crack and buzz - it is about this time of year I start clearing spaces on the mantelpiece - will have to fiill with holiday snaps I suppose this year.
3 tips if you are coming out for the Cricket: -
1. Bring the entrance tickets with you - you will need them to get in and having them sent by DHL is expensive
2. If you sit out watching Cricket all day you WILL get sunburnt.
3. If you drink rum from the 9.30 start to the close of play and have a couple more back at the hotel when digesting the game with fellow supporters, you WILL get very drunk and be in bed by 8 o'clock.

Barwars, I think if you read between the lines Tommy will be out of the country Saturday
Nice to hear you are enjoying yourself Tom, not too put out by having to give a DNA sample in the murder enquiry then ? I bet that prostitutes family are devastated

HA HA HA Barwars cant believe you put that!!! :stpd:
sounds good tommy!! Not replying to the e-mail I sent you - miserable
as always!!
Perkins are a good club with good people and all about building for next year but rumours abound about people moving on - any truth?? :soo:
Spec - did you have to give nipaldo starman - never shuts up about it!!
There's rumours about nearly every club at the minute Foggy, I am not giving away things I am told in confidence but I expect a few surprises to happen between now and the start of next season.
Nipper deserved his starman award although I am delighted Mr Bolden restricted him to a left back role, both of them had a right battle and both played very well

Not been on my e-mail for a couple of days Foggy - your post has reminded me to have a quick look.
Australia v West Indies was a bit of a let down - started raining at 1pm and didn't stop - got totally ****ed - crowd was crap - place was only half full and that included a couple of thousand Aussies - ticket prices at $100 is putting all of the locals off. Still going to West Indies v New Zealand tomorrow and hoping for a West Indies win so I can lay off some of my significant financial investment - might have to strangle one or two Kiwi's if they win! (sorry bad taste)
Anyone who has sent me a text or abusive voicemail is wasting their time by the way - left my phone on the plane coming in - replacement at least will be on same number.
Robbo - sort your brother out - will be back Easter Saturday so will have a look and see who is playing - Spec I know of 2 Peterborough League managers (sides in top half) who are stepping down - are there more - I am intrigued - send me a PM
