On a bitterly cold Saturday in Lincolnshire these two teams went out in a determined fashion to warm up the supporters.
Pinchbeck started the brighter Knocking the ball about nicely in the middle of the park, moving the Uppingham team all over the place. After 25 minutes the leagues leading goalscorer Jamie Cartlidge some how missed from a yard out after god work from lal and walton had presented him with this oppurtunity. It looked as if this would be a chance gone begging as Uppingham went straight up the other end and after some neat play down their right they called the Pinchbeck keeper into action with a fine save down to his left handside. The resultant corner was dealt with easily by the Pinchbeck defence. The game was now flowing from end to end and it was Pinchbecks chance to create an opening after some fine play by Cartlidge put 16 year old Cannon through on goal, his great strike from the edge of the area saw the Uppingham keeper make a great save right out of the top corner. From the resultant Dickinson corner, which were causing the Uppingham defence problems all afternoon Atkinson headed narrowly over. Pinchbeck now took control of the game and took the lead soon after. Left back dickinson made a great challenge and then laid the ball into Inglis's path and after the winger had beaten 4 defenders and tied himself in knots he released Cannon and this time he made no mistake fireing his first goal for the senior side. After this it was all Pinchbeck as the goal seemed to settle them down and with calming influences of Chilvers, Spillet and the returning Rick Harper from a bad injury they stared playing some nice stuff. They soon doubled the lead 5 mins later from another Dickinson corner this time Chilvers rose the highest and sensibly headed it back into the danger were Cartlidge made no mistake this time with a headed goal. After this the first half just dwindled out with Uppingham looking to re group and Pinchbeck content with a 2-0 half time lead. As the supporters headed in for a drink the ref blew his whistle for half time.
Both teams came out looking fired up after the inspirational talks from both management teams. Pinchbeck again started the brighter and increased the lead within a couple of minutes through that man Cartlidge again after a great piece of centre forward play. He recaived the ball down the right held it up well and then rolled his marker a treat and drove into the area and hit a hard low shot across the keeper into the far bottom corner. After this the Pinchbeck manager sent his subs to get warm and seeing this just drove the team on even more and they soon made it 4 with a rare headed goal from Andy lal after good play down the right. Straight after this Lal was replaced with Davis. With virtualy his first touch he headed just over as Pinchbeck looked to kill the game off. They let Uppingham back in the game in last 20 minutes as they made a real game of it causing trouble for the Pinchbeck defence as they seemed to wake up. If it wasnt for Halifax in the Pinchbeck goal this game could of been alot closer. Pincheck stopped doing the right things and got into bad habit as they thought the game was over. With ten minutes to go Uppingham got one as Pinchbeck failed to deal with a long throw into the box. Twon then grabbed another back after a succesion of corners from both sidesthe last one was cleared and delivered across the box to give the Uppingham 11 a simple task of tapping the ball home. In the final few minutes the more senior players of Pinchbeck saw there team through by lookinbg after the ball and clearing their lines for a 4-2 win.
