 I read with some dismay in today's ET that the Royal Oak have called it a day. I for one will rue their passing. For years the Oak were the team to aspire to beat, my first team played them a couple of seasons ago and even though being beaten by them John lavished praise on the way we played the game against them.
I fear now that the players will be out of football because they wil all have their registrations suspended until all debts are cleared to the FA and PSMFL
Some may want to hold a party and gloat others would like to hold a wake (probably at the Oak) I'm sure John would be impressed by the turnout
Once again the Prem gets weaker another of the top sides goes down unfortunately not with all guns blazing but with a wimper
I sincerely hope the 2006/07 players from the Oak realise what they have done to a once great local team.
I raise a glass to you John "Non illegitium carborundum lower"

A massive shame to lose a club like the mighty Royal Oak, for years they've been one of the best Sunday sides in Peterborough,
I've no idea why they fell into decline to be honest but I hope at least some of the people that were once involved with runiing them and playing for them remain in and around Sunday footy?

in recent years it has been peter pan(it doesn't help when the pub gets knocked down!),psl(when they were a good sunday side),nags head and now the oak. you could also add the original silver jubilee team to that too. all in all it doesn't look like the future of the league is very promising!

When were psl any good jb ?
Oak should have folded 2 seasons ago when they were advised too, who wants to remember them now as a team who folded mid season, again it's back to the old story of modern day players with attitudes

when bob was running the side. although they weren't uprooting any trees they were a decent side who could beat anyone on their day. when bob was manager we had some fantastic players. they would have certainly been very strong contenders for the title in the current climate.

basically another of the prem's "old school" to have folded in recent years

spoke to a few of the oak boys on sunday after our game, think everyone's gutted to see them go. Shame they had to fold mid season, as they only have 4 league games left to play. Surely could have been helped out somewhere by someone? still, no point blaming the players that were available, it's those that weren't. Foggy said they had over 40 players signrd on but still couldn't raise a team. Shame to see the oak go.

is that your best mate foggy?

It is a shame the Oak have folded and I for one will miss the games/banter that I have had with them.

The real question is why now? with only 4 games to go. Surely they do not have a hidden agenda - I wonder :soo:

My feeling is that after losing there 2 best players as well as a couple of older ones to retirement and the going got a little tough the players decided not to turn up!! Great oak spirit!!
As I have heard they had over 30 players signed on but when they lost a couple of games at the begininning of the season no one could be bothered!!

I feel sorry for Darcy!! Now I know we do not see eye 2 eye but he has worked hard and people have let him down. As said before another team gone and the league is looking bleak in terms of quality with Netheron and JNE really the only 2 left!!

Spec, agree league not as strong as years gone by but bit disrespectful to say that we would have been has-beens!! Netherton & JNE would have held there own.

It is a great shame that this once great team has folded. There is a lot of truth in what Spec has said about players attitudes. Having watched a few prem games this season you could see the writing was on the wall. I was personally involved with some great matches with the Oak but like the Nags they went on one season too long. Full admiration to Darcy for his effort. Hope that there are no problems with the fines, it would be so wrong to punish the players who have stuck by the Oak.I think that the standard in the Prem has dropped but I also have to say that JNE, Netherton and a full strength Lord Westwood all do the league credit. Unfortunately it looks like a one horse race and I can't see anyone stopping JNE. All the best to the Oak lads, I haven't always seen eye to eye with them all but have always given them the respect that they earned and deserved.

Foggy, it would be very disrespectful of me to say you were has-beens and it would be totally wrong which is why I used the term also-rans, a totally different point of view, never doubted your lots ability but seriously doubted your mental attitude and strength in big games.

What big games would these be?
Now the Oak are gone you would think the league isn't worth being in.
I guess that just the opinion of the people that are used to playing in the prem over the last 10-15 years. There will be plenty of new faces and no doubt teams promoted and though the standard may drop compared to the past years it will still mean just as much to those taking part.

Harbs it seems to me that you waited to join the big league when a lot of the quality teams had gone, I don't remember you offering your much sought after talents to any of the struglling teams in the Prem, maybe that was your loyalty to The Star ?????????? but then perhaps after years of winning very little you saw an ideal opportunity to at last become a winner. :soo:

That was a fair comment Mick but far from it, as you were aware i had no interest in Sunday football purely down to personal fitness/injury and wanting to enjoy sundays playing golf. (which i am no better at)
It took a lot of persuading from Shakey to get me to play for Jubilee and the only reason i did was due to a Perkins friend of mine getting a bad injury and not being able to finish what he had started.
My plans were to only finish the last 8 games of the season for them and not play again but after every game i had a quality time with the lads and decided to give it another season.
I have promised a friend i will be playing for their team next season so this is my last season in the prem also yes i would like to win something there is no point playing trying for anything else but as my cabinet is the opposite to Tommy Trophies im not going to be too heart broken if everything goes t1ts up, still have no plans to let that happen mind you.
Oh and Mick Michaels poker face needs some work he was too easy to read last night.

Are you just bitter Mick that Harbs never agreed to join the mighty Nags in their depleting years!!??

Who knows though mate we may get drawn against your new lot in the cup and you can get your revenge on him!!??

spec
07-02-2007, 14:10
I don't think Mick has a bitter bone in his body Nipper, and you won't get chance to play them in the cup, they have to get past the mighty Woodston first

Mick B
07-02-2007, 16:03
Nipper just to put you right Harbs actually signed for and played once for the nags in their last season, and after beating B.N.E. IN CUP FINALS, SEMI-FINALS, LEAGUE TITLES ETC.ETC.ETC. what would I have to be bitter about., I'm pretty sure that had we actually lost one of the five or six cup finals that we played in we would have all collected our losers medals with dignity.Spec, look forward to the Cup q.f. against Woodston veterans, sorry seniors. Not really heavily involved with Scarlett's but help out when needed. Actually won our other q.f. Hope you play against us Spec and look forward to a little drink after. Harbs as you've often posted in the past what harm is there in a little banter.

Hope I'll be playing Mick but if it's only a little drink after I'll stay in bed mate, you still off the fags ??

Yes Spec, over three months, you will find it a lot cheaper now. Sunday mornings are not what they were.Only recently found out Daz Paling was playing for Hemps at Royal Mail, unbelievable. Scarlett's have already beaten one Prem side in the Cup, Power League, so who knows? If they can get out of the bad habit of giving away at least a couple of stupid goals and improve their discipline They might just give you a bit of a game. They play some nice football at times, ask Parkside.

we have an awesome first choice 11 its just a pity they cant be available every week. starkey and luke starting to click up front now and the goals are starting to flow. obviously we wanna go as far as possible but for me we've got further than netherton in pfa cup so from a personal point of view i'm happy :sm:

jb u sign for every team possible until u run out of transfers so i cant see how by using the phrase " we" that u are included in it . i suggest using the phrase " scarletts" .

no one remembers 1/4 , 1/2 finalist so u have a way to go yet mate . glad it makes u smile though . who did u play in the previous rounds? hmmm was it oak in the first and jube in the second?

Just to correct some previous posts, I think you will find that the Oak had 7 games left. Still agree that they could have tried harder to see the season out though and it spoils their legacy a bit. Don't think Sunday Morning football will completely die out, but will just become like Sunday Afternoons and irrelevant to proper Saturday players and really just be for players of limited ability who just like to rung around and pretend to be Wayne Rooney (like JB)

jb
08-02-2007, 15:34
i like that  i like it when people hide behind names and don't have the b*ll*cks to say stuff to your face cos they know what'll happen :batr: nobody cares what you put on here cos you're too scared to put your real name down. real pity cos that was a quality answer but no-one will care.

thats not a bite either just really bored at work and wanted something to do

I think you will find that I have already been exposed JB so you can't have been paying attention. Thank you for the compliment though and of course you didn't bite... no really you didn't .... honest you never - how predictable!
