View Full Version : Festive (?) Warning To You All Out There
Hi guys, just thought I would let you know that upon turning up to play football for the mighty Woodston on Sunday morning at Bretton Woods against Yaxley Horseshoes we were met by 2 members of the local police force who proceeded to breathalyse every driver who turned up.
It was 10.00am and they were positioned so once you saw them there was no turning back and they had you.
I was of course tested negative but unfortunately 2 people before me were over the limit and it was goodnight for them, I am not going to get on my high horse too much at the moment on the topic but just thought you should all know the implications of driving the next morning after a good Saturday night out especially it seems if you are a footballer.
The officer in question who I had to blow in the bag for was none other than our esteemed referee on a Saturday Mr Paul Gale, massive PR own goal for you there ref and you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.
Where are they when the cars are getting broken into in the car park during the games :soo:

It is interesting to see Spec that Paul Gale is down to ref the Perkins v Fletton game this week will anyone dare havea drink in the clubhouse!
I saw Gale on the line at a FA Vase game last month when he failed to spot the keeper collect the ball one yard out of his box and yet he was stood eight yards away. Perhaps they should have breathalysed him after the game :soo:
I wonder why they chose your game on Sunday perhaps it was your mention of all those bacardis aftera game on here
He is not reffing us this week, that was the cup game he was down for, I just think it was a stupid thing to get involved in for him, I have only been playing the last 3 weeks so I don't think it was common knowledge and I don't drink and drive anyway, but my whole argument about being breathalysed in the mornings is that it is not advertised in any way by the police or health authorities or anyone else for that matter just how long it takes alcohol to get out of your system, had the police had done a campaign in the media about alcohol levels still in your blood and a rough timetable of how long it takes to get rid of it and then started turning up at public places the next morning and targetting people then you could say well at least we were warned (advised), I still wouldn't agree with it however, but it wouldn't have angered me as much, entrapment I think they call it these days
This is out of personal experience. (UNFORTUNATELY)
I got done last year on the way to Bretton park.I felt fine to drive as with most mornings but little did I know that I was over.
Its true as Spec said that nothing is ever publicised about the length of time it takes for the alcohol to leave your system. Perhaps there should be more awareness about these matters. Its all well and good saying "Dont drink and drive" but if you feel ok the following morning after sleep and breakfast then how are you suppose to know. What more can you do??
Different people have different tollerance levels of alcohol and Ive known someone to drink 5pints and pass a breath test. Perhaps he stuffed his mouth with 1p/2ps!!!
We have all done it at one stage or another without ever knowing if we are over or not.
I know a lot of the lads involved in my Sunday side are a little more aware after my stunning example.
But one thing I will say, its not very nice having your independance taken away and even worse to get a mega rider every week!!! So do yourselves all a favour and pay the £6 for a taxi...or get ya mum to drop you off!!!
:bub: CHEERS!!!
will your mum give me a ride Sunday nip??
Will she give me a mega ride

best get message round to as many as possible about this happening, looks bad when they send one of our local refs to the game to do the job aswell as if they dont get enough stick.would of been a great day all round if id had a couple more could of arrested me his own brother. as we was also at bretton could of at least tipped me of.
Cheers boys......I asked for that hey!?
Harbs; Perhaps we should ask Tyler if your missus is a good ride!!!???SLOPPIES!!!
A ref and a ( sneaky) policeman, i bet his mums soooo proud of him.
Glad i wasn't spoken to by the same careers advisor at school!
she read that nip and she is gunning for you now mate, lets hope you havent lost your little burst of off the bench pace because she is gonna beat your 4SS and not in the way you'd want it either.
just for the record he wouldn't know mate so no need to ask him.
i wouldn't wanna have to kick his 4ss if i found out any different (i may need help with that)
back to the topic at hand i think its bad news that they pulled that sting feel sorry for the lads that got caught out but its funny that you wrote your car off trying to impress your imaginary bird in the passenger seat and then got banned for being over the limit. you couldnt write that sort of comedy!
Just read about this on the e.t website, Spec, you have been "quoted", was it a direct conversation or has the text been " plucked " from this site?
Lay off nips mum, shes' lovely and he getting upset
Think they did the same last year at Bretton Woods!! Bit sneaky but people must be more vigilant in there actions as we all know they take more of a look at drivers this time of year!!
I wonder how many times Paul gonna get abuse now!! :soo:
The real crime may i add is seeing spec with his boots on, Soon he'll be pushing for Fletton first team or saying (like tommy trophy) that he still got it!!

I do know of a certain ET writer that told me (only last night) that he reads this site - not sure if he uses quotes from it but it does get read by em!
Spec, were you speaking directly to the ET then mate?
Well out of order sneaking about trying to nab footballers on a Sunday morning - why don't they launch a sting against all the little chavs running amok and smashing up cars whilst we play and stealing bags/phones/coats etc???
I guess we're all a nice easy target that they knew would get a press mention and make em look like they're actually doing something for a change!
Just a thought - do you think the Ref/Copper tipped off the ET to get it in the papers and get cudos at work???? :soo:

paul has a job 2 do and if that is 2 nick every p*ssed up player who might run over and kill some1 the nx day or not then im in his camp.
a warning shld have been printed in the local rag saying that they intend to check sunday morning players turning up 4 games so agreed there.
but just remmber paul is a copper and doesnt do the press release's. he is told what 2 do and does it, its his job 2 let on if he think crime r being committed by players or any1 else.
nx burgulars will be asking for notice of where the cops will be b4 breaking in2 our homes.
p.s when u nx reffing us paul

hardly the same is it... breaking into homes or being slightly over the limit from the night before!!!
Of course everyone is against drink driving, but surely Sunday Morning footballers are an odd target? it smacks of the Police and Press targeting people who will generate PR for the cause, a lot of people will say perhaps Media coverage of the effects of alcohol would have been a better way of doing it or even leaflets etc at games???
yeah he was doing his job, and yeah most people support that... but surely the Police could have sent someone that isn't actually involved with local football, what if something kicked off and he had to deal with players that he has to ref at a later date?
As a nuetral in this I would sooner see the Police actually patrolling the streets and if they are gonna be out early on a Sunday why cant the actually catch people doing sh*tty things like smashing cars or robbing belongings from us players???

at least someone sees the logic of him actually doing his job, maybe there should of been a release that they was intending to do it but would anybody of taken notice. and as for back of the net saying that he is trying to get noticed at work are you really for real. as i said earlier it would of been nice to no myself considering that i was at bretton woods that morning. when i have a chat to him later i will be sure to remind him that when he goes out to an accident and finds that a drunken driver has knocked someone down and killed them that its not important catch the petty criminals first.

trying to twist my words to condone death on the roads??? you gotta be kidding?
Of course everyone understands Drink Driving is wrong and needs to be stopped as does all crime... petty crime funds drug habbits that plague this city and many people who are tied up in it die as a result, it all needs working on...
My point was that targeting a group of lads that would normally be law-abiding people to get the PR message out there is maybe a little harsh :soo:
Maybe there could have been dialogue with the leagues/managers/refs etc to warn of the dangers of drink driving and then go and catch criminals red-handed elsewhere, maybe in and around town on a Fri and Sat eve actually drunk at the wheel and likely to hit someone??? I dont drink drive or condone it but the only thing I see out on a Sunday morning at 9am is the milk lorry!!!
One of the reasons I posted a response was that we played at Bushfields earlier this year and reported a theft of several wallets and phones, the Police were not in the least bit interested.... I'm sure the lads who lost stuff there didn't shrug it off as just 'petty crime!'

i no what you are saying but come on lets be honest how many people actually leave there stuff laying in changing rooms as you will well no there isnt really that many secure changing facilities on a sunday. there will be many views on this and yes may seam abit petty what has happend but in truth laws were broken.

who cares , dont think this post was to discuss weather the police are doin or not doin there job or weather it is good or bad . think it was just to warn people was it not spec?
p.s police have a job to do full stop . a crime is a crime whatever time of day or wherever it is . . . . . now where did i put that stella?

hey backofthenet, hardly the same when a family member gets killed by a p*ssed up driver or if u lose stuff frm ur home eh? :stpd:
Yes eddie it was to warn players of what they were up to and yes I spoke directly to the ET for exactly the same reason, there was the usual response from the police spokesman who quoted the usual statistics about how many people are killed by drink drivers, but he neglected to say out of the so many thousand actually how many were killed at 10.00 in the morning which is the whole point of what I was getting at. He also said there had been years of campaigning warning of the perils of driving the next morning, well I must have been asleep for the last god knows how many years because not once have I seen any statistics of how long drink takes to get out of your system printed in any paper anywhere.
Paul might have a job to do but are you telling me that his boss would make him do what he did on Sunday morning, I don't think so

get real.... my point was that petty crime funds drug crime around this city and that leads to many deaths (I speak from expereince losing a close family member to this vicious circle by the way - think before you spout on about it ok!!!)
Of course all crime is wrong and isn't condoned....
Spec - that was all I was trying to say also...
Of course he has a job to do, but as you say how many people die on the roads at 10am on a Sunday morning due to alcohol? the 2 lads that I hear were caught out must be gutted, I'm sure they didn't set out to break the law or hurt anyone!
And I guess most people looking at why footballers where targeted on a Sunday morning must surely be wondering that why out of the 2 Policemen there, 1 of them was a local referee??? is half the force made up of refs, did the boss think "I know send a ref that'll help"??
It was just an observation from someone looking in at the incident and like many others wondering why target such easy prey on a Sunday morning?
oh someone mentioned not leaving valuables in changing rooms... In the incident I mentioned, the opposition brought their valuables out to pitchside and a couple of little junkies rifled bags whilst they warmed up, they gave chase and gave the police a half decent description - what happened.... NOTHING!
The police didn't even bother to come down and take notes or witness statements, it makes you mad when you see that happen and then hear about the Police out on a Sunday morning but only when they know they'll catch someone or at least get good PR from highlighting a good cause by targeting us lot... :blh: :blh:
Bring back the sunday morning Police team i say, not only were you guaranteed 6 points from them, but you also got a chance to kick em without getting arrested!

Carefree try putting your brain in gear before typing!!!
I clearly said ALL CRIME IS WRONG AND NOT CONDONED...
what part of that are you struggling with?
it's the manner in which it was dealt with on this occassion that is being discussed - not what crime is more serious than another!
anyway I sent you a PM so you could understand why I personally think petty crime can lead to more serious issues - it involved a VERY CLOSE family member and ended in tragedy.... I just thought perhaps the Police could help more with that seeing as one of our games had been a victim of 'petty crime' earlier this season and the Police just ignored it... it's a clear comparison from personal experience!
If you still want to continue the insults over it I suggest we meet up and talk about somewhere a little more private... PM me as I dont want to talk about it any further online.
isn't bretton park private council land? and not on the public road? if you had an accident there the police wouldn't get involved as they would say its private land so surely being over the limit on this "private land" isn't their business :soo: if they were catching people whilst still on the public road then fair enough. but on a private road smacks of double standards i think!
