Whittlesey made it four consecutive victiories as they swept away the challenge of visiting Oundle Town on Saturday afternoon.

Former Whittlesey player and Oundle Centre Half Mr Harley was left to eat a very large slice of humble pie as his earlier predictions of an away win were dealt a very significant blow from a Whittlesey side that claimed a comfortable victory.

The home side were faced with a big blow just moments into this encounter as last week's five goal hero Stef GREEN landed awkwardly in the turf and had to come off with a twisted knee.

Whittlesey dominated the open passages of play with a new look midfield eager to stamp their authority on the game, 17 year old Bob Dart moved into the centre of midfield from his usual position of Left Back as Matthew HERON was unavailable for team selection and did himself proud with an assured performance.

Despite Whittlesey's dominance, Oundle produced the best chance of the open exchanges when a snap shot which looked to be heading for the top corner, but the impressive Daniel FLETCHER in the home goal produced yet another world class save.

Whittlesey deservedly took the lead on the 20 minute mark when some good work from front man Micky BURCH set up an opportunity for DART to cooly slot home to make it 1-0. Whittlesey pressed for a second but the scores on the doors at the break were 1-0 Whittlesey.

The second half saw Whittlesey start rather nervously with Oundle winning many of the second balls, however Whittlesey regained their composure 10 minutes into the second haf and played some excellent football. Ryan SMITH added his tenth of the season when he capitalised on some poor Oundle defending to race one on one with the Oundle keeper and keep his composure to add a Whittlesey second.

Whittlesey defended superbly throughout with the ever impressive David TAYLOR producing another fine performance along side the equally impressive Scott DING and Ray GALE. Daniel BAXTER and Graeme ROBINSON worked tirlelessly in the middle of the park winning and distributing the ball effectively. The home side continued to control the game and should have added 3 more, with the Oundle keeper in fine form preventing certain goals from Dart, Baker and Quince.

So in summary an excellent three points with the whole team playing extremely well as a unit and a win that was made all the more sweeter because of our ex-player's sweeping Saturday morning statements, BTW he never did buy me that beer!

Here's hoping for another win at Ramsey on Saturday!

Regards, Barrel

Quality Barrell - come to think of it the tight git never bought me a drink either, no more than expected though mate - I expect he was still trying to get himself untangled from the knot Smithy tied him in on the way to our second goal.

And that reminds me must have a word with the Oundle management, I am impressed that they have been able to find someone who can supply shorts to fit even the largest of arses !!!! :mnn:

I will then get the same kit supplier to make him a couple of festive pairs up for Christmas :snt:

Hope they also have a product to dry a few tears Cozza!! :bby:

Special mention has to go to Laudy who I thought did a thoroughly professional job of burying our Scottish friend after the game, he's got that voice off to a tee now

Hey Cozza! - what's Barrell gonna write about now - game got called off at the last minute on Saturday mate, but not before we had already arrived. - bit of a farce, looked like Ramsey 1st teams away game had been called off as their 1st team manager was at the club and appeared to be the guy making all the noise about not wanting their pitch cut up - quite within his rights to make that feeling known. However our referee turns up, inspects the pitch and declares it fit to play so our guys begin to get changed - then, said referee comes back into the changing room and states that he has changed his mind and that the pitch now isn't playable!!! Bet he didnt get ANY help with changing his mind
Funny really cos just at that moment the sun was shining and there was an abundance of blue sky above :soo:
So much to the lads dismay we found ourselves back down the Bear by 2.00 pm , quite ironic really cos we ended up having a wet afternoon anyway!!!

Quite right Mick, my weekly report is undoubtedly gonna be missed by many, i've already turned down an opportunity to join the Fenland Post's sports desk this week.

The afternoon and evening got very very messy on Saturday night for me, i spent most of yesterday nursing a severe headache and was even made to push the trolley round Sainsbury's which when you have had umpteen pints the night before is not the best way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Should have gone and watched our league counterparts Fletton v Perkins in the PFA Junior Cup, by all accounts that was a very lively encounter down at Woodlands.

Hey don't be going and getting all nice with us now you haggis eater you

Very happy with the way my lads performed today - no doubt Barrell will be putting together a match report in due course - so I will leave it to him to describe the game, but was pleased me most was that we are seeing the whole squad support one another, that includes Dinga, Lukey and Hof who all played their parts when coming off the bench - not forgetting young Stef who its good to see fully supporting the lads from the line despite injury.
I will never let the boys rest on our laurels though, there is always room for improvement, more personal discipline on a Friday night for one !!! And if we can put away all of the chances we are creating - for example we should have won by four or five today, and continue to keep it tight at the back we will continue to build upon what I want to do long term which is to provide a strong pool of players for Whittlesey United, able to compete at both 1st and reserve level - my personal goal is to be able to provide Garry players who will compete for all places in both teams - we are not there yet but we are getting there.:sm:

Barrell - no point putting a match report on here mate - according to the muppet who summarises Saturday's games, in the ET, Chatteris didn't have a game on Saturday!
Wouldnt hurt the pillock to read his own papers results section before he writes his piece cos he will see that Chatteris's result is there in black and white! Mind you with such attention to detail Millard should make an able replacement for Swanny when he decides to heed the advice from all and sundry and just bugger off!
Still when have a few facts ever got in the way when it comes to the section that is laughably called World of Sport with Alan Swann :bst:
