LONG SUTTON ATHLETIC RESERVES 2
WHITTLESEY UNITED RESERVES 7
London Road
Att: 17
Whittlesey continued their fine form with an outstanding victory at bottom club Long Sutton Athletic on Saturday. Young 17 year old Stef GREEN was the star of the show for ths visitors smashing home 5 unstoppable goals.
Whittlesey started the game very positively and took the lead after only 3 minutes when Stef Green rounded a defender to slot past the despairing lunge of the home keeper, despite Long Sutton's lowly league status they battled well and credit where credit is due matched our effort in the opening 20 minutes, however on the 25 minute mark Whittlesey defender David TAYLOR nodded home a corner to make it 2-0.
Long Sutton continued to attack despite them being behind and caught the Whittlesey defence out on a couple of ocassions, one shot produced a save of world-class proportions from Whittlesey keeper Daniel FLETCHER.
Whittlesey went in at the break 2-0 but only performing to 70% of their ability, second half saw a rampant Long Sutton come out of the blocks and knock home a well worked goal that went in off the bar. This shook Whittlesey but they replied in outstanding fashion, with Stef GREEN getting behind the home defence and smashing home to restore the two goal advantage for the visitors.
Whittlesey then hit fith gear as they rampaged throughout the home side, GREEN added his hat-trick with a fantastic curling 25 yard shot that easily beat the home keeper, moments later he then chested down a cross field ball and as it dropped hit in sweetly into the top corner of the home goal to make it 5-1. Green's strike partner Micky BURCH was in fine form excellently complimenting his new strike partner. Whittlesey continued to press and made it 6-1 when substitute Luke QUINCE poked home. Long Sutton added a second with yet another candidate for goal of the season with a 30 yard pile-driver from the Long Sutton midfielder which hit the top corner.
All was not finished for Whittlesey though or in particular GREEN and he added his FIFTH of the day when he capitalised on a mix up in the home defence to make it 7-2.
So an entertaining game and one in which saw a very strong Whittlesey side continue their rich vein of form, the message was clear at the end of the match though that we had to carry our form into the next league game at home to Oundle Town Reserves on Saturday when someone we all know at Whittlesey comes to pay a us a visit.
