After Barrells excellent effort I will give what I consider a fair report of the game between Langtoft Res and Gedney Hill Res from Sat gone.
Kick off was delayed by about 10 mins due to traffic problems.....
Calm afternoon sun was shining grass was damp and the pitch was soft,
With both teams warming up you could cut the tension in the air with a knife not much in the way of encouragement from either side just total concentration from every player. This was followed by a few roars of "Come On...." from each Defence before the game was underway.
The 1st 25 minutes were dominated by Langtoft, Gedney simply hadn't woken up and the ball was constantly in the away teams half it was long perhaps only 10mins gone when the 1st goal arrived with a header from Michael Sherman after some good work on the left side from Joe Fisher and Shaun Howlett left the keeper stranded and Sherman with nobody to beat.
Not long after another ball was knocked into the box this time in managed to hit the shoulder/head of Shaun Howlett and looped over the keeper to make it 2-0 to the home side.
Within 25mins langtoft had managed to make it 3-0 from a free kick just on the edge of the 18yrd box and centre midfielder Ricky Baker also managed to hit the underside of the bar from 30yrds which I'm still not sure if it actually crossed the line as it bounced out.
Whilst all this was happening Gedney Hill were lucky to keep 11men on the pitch after a foul on the last man infront of goal the ref produced a red card only to change his mind after langtoft player said "I think you made a mistake" (For god sake he was their best bloody player)
But Gedney showed why they have had such a strong start to the season capitalising on some poor Langtoft defending and it was 3-2 before the break.
Half time came the Langtoft players were b*ll*cked as where I'm sure the Gedney.
It wasn't long before it was 4-2 a scramble in the box lead to an own goal which Andrew Wilde still claims but I'm positive he was just the nearest player.
Still Gedney came back with a beautiful ball into the Langtoft box which was called for by the keeper and met with an equally beautiful header which looped over everybody and into the back of the net. 4-3
Once again from Kick off it was end to end stuff both teams producing some excellent football especially Gedney with their one touch flicks etc.
Still Langtoft powered forward and a Ball forward from Right midfielder Graeme Smith found Ricky Baker who went on a mazy run into the opponents box, as he moved forward 3 legs came out at least one catching him down he went a pen was awarded. After a bit of pushing and shoving and a few complaints Martin Rogers calmly slotted the ball to the keepers left 5-3
Once again end to end stuff, substitutions were made etc etc and just as the game was looking to end the final attack landed to Langtoft with Joe Fisher managing to tuck away Langtofts sixth.
Final Score 6-3
