View Full Version : Combination 1
Some good sides this year in the Comby 1. We started very well with 7 points from 9 but played poorly at Moulton and Perkins where we were beaten twice which was unfortunate, got back to playing football on Saturday in the Cambs Cup and wnning ways. Got a good young side this season who play some good stuff, if we can keep clear of injuries we are a match for anyone on our day.
Perkins Reserves and Fletton Reserves look like they are going to be just a strong as last year by their results so far this season also.
Hopefully we will be there or there abouts come what April/May time if we play the way we can there is no reason why not!

Morning Barrel - dont forget to put a match report down for yesterday's game, win or lose we need to get a report in mate.
As you know, due to a cock up on the league referee appointment front, we had to find a referee from within the two clubs, I have to say that in all my years of local football I thought that Gavin Sylvester, a Deeping player, did as good a job as I have ever seen as a stand in referee. He was fair, unbiased and kept the game running without losing control - and whilst the two clubs might not always see eye to eye on the field I congratulate Deeping on having such personnel within their midst, he did great credit to both himself and the Deeping club - well done Gavin and thanks.
Alright gaffa.Your spot on about the stand in ref he done a top job.I dont know whats happend to Barrel,i think he's been grounded and had his toys taken off him as he did'nt make it down the field on sunday to see Fletchers debut for Real Whittlesey at left back. [/img]

He still needs to get a match report onto the site - bout time a little focus was put onto some of the Comb 1 Reserve teams as from what I have seen there is some good stuff being played -over to you barrell
Alright boys calm down calm down. Been a busy boy at work over the last couple of days. Did you hear about my thunderbolt in the new 5-a side league down SHS school, absolute screamer!!!
Right report as follows:
DEEPNG SPORTS RESERVES 2
WHITTLESEY UNITED RESERVES 1
Outgang Rd
Att: 22
Whittlesey Reserves went down 2-1 to Deeping Sports on Saturday afternnon at a blustery Outgang Rd.
We started very well and had the better of the early exchanges with some excellent football being played by the young Whittlesey side. Our good early passage of play was rewarded after 10 minutes when we took the lead after an excellent finish from 16 year old Luke QUINCE, his first goal of the season. Whittlesey continued to have the better of the play and kept the threat of any Deeping attack at bay with some resolute defending. Whittlesey derservedly went in at the break 1-0 up after dominating the first 45 minutes.
After the re-start Deeping came out roaring and looked a different proposition that we had encountered during the opening 45 minutes, despite their new found resurgence we kept the threat of any goals to a minimum with some fine defending. With the scores at 1-0 a throughball was latched onto by pacey Whittlesey top scorer Ryan SMITH who found himself one on one with the Deeping keeper, but found his low drilled shot saved well by the goalkeeper. Just moments later a fine passage of play between the Deeping forwards cared the Wsey defence apart and there was David SMITHERINGALE to fire low and hard bast a helpless Daniel FLETCHER in the Whittlesey goal to equalise. This leveller seemed to lift the home side who managed to stagnate our passing flow and they duly added a second 10 minutes from time when David HOWE fired an unstoppable half volley into the top corner of the Wsey goal to put the home team in front. Despite some late pressure from us, we failed to equalise and they game flittered out into a disappointing defeat for the Whittlesey boys in a game that we looked to be so comfortable in at half time.
The game was played on a knife edge with and was highly charged and highly competitive. Our plans were not helped when in the warm up two of our best players pulled out with injuries which scuppered our team selection.
Big thank you goes to the Deeping substitute who refereed this game due to the cock up at the Peterborough football as they incorectly told our referee that our game had been called off, no idea where that came from. The lad who substituted at the agreement of both managers refereeed the game fantastically well and was a great advocate for what local football in Peterborough is all about.
So all in all a disappointing defeat but we have got to look forward and get back to winning ways starting with 3 points at home to Leverington Reserves on Saturday - COME ON!
Regards, Barrel
