Is there any chance that the pdfl.org site can take the focus away from the Prem I know there is a lot of people who use it to check results from the lower leagues but always suggest that we are ignored..

I'm sure if you widened the variety of teams that it would increase the amount of hits you get as word got round,

Langtoft you are right. The only trouble is it is only me that posts the news items onto the pdfl site and therefore as a result I have concentrated on the Premier League. I have on many occasions appealed for somebody to act as a reporter for the various Divisions and for team or individual player pictures to be sent to me to enable coverage of the lower leagues. No takers though!. I take your point and I will continue to look into extending the news item. However any help would be very much appreciated.

Well done to all contributors to the Combination section on this forum hence the section being created.

Surely reports come from word of mouth anyway? Cannot be at all the games. So why could the same not be done for 'lower' leagues that contain the better teams that would give you more to write about  ?

thats a good idea, honest reports sent in before a deadline!

surely you could compile a report from the results and scorers.

something like:

netherton regained top spot in combinanation 2 thanks to a hat-trick from joe bloggs and a brace from donald duck helped them to a 5-2 victory over psl res's.
(using this weekends game involving my club. was gonna put my own name down but that would've been a bit big-headed even for me!)

or

netherton reserves kept up the pressure on gedney hill res's at the top of combination 2 with a comprehensive 5-2 win over psl res's. a joe bloggs hat-trick and a brace from donald duck sealed the win with biffa bacon grabbing the 2 consolation goals for psl. gedney hill res's stayed top with a john cannon(only person i know!) brace helping them to a 2-0 win away at kings cliffe res's. the result keeps gedney at the top of combination 2 by a point with netherton hot on their heels having played a game less.

i was only putting a little bit of what could be done and proving that it could be done from scores, scorers and league table. you dont really need any more info to do a small write up on the pdfl site which is what this thread was regarding.

Gents

As I have said I agree and if I get the time I will to put in place during the season. I would however welcome any reports via PM to help make the reports more factual. The same could also be said of the Premier. I invested a large amount of cash last season to purchase a camera to help with the photos on the site and often visit ground to increase the library of picture. Unfortunately this is limited to every other weekend as I work on Saturdays. Should any of you have team/individual players photos to help then they would be gratefully received.

Hey Barrell - just catching up on a couple of weeks worth of footie gossip - Have PM'd Mark offering any help etc from a Whittlesey Utd perspective - have a think and see what you can come up with with regards to supplying weekly match reports for the Reserves as its about time we raised the combination league 1 profile a little - over to you buddy.

Yesterday's is probably an ideal game to kick off with - great result for the lads in the the 1st of our matches in this years Cambs cup competitions - will take a 3:1 win away from home anytime and by all accounts Girton are doing well this season

No probs Mick.

Whittlesey Utd Reserves travelled to Girton United in Cambridge to play their reserve outfit in the Prelimnary Round of the Cambs Cup this yesterday.

After two disappointing performances and results in the last two games it was very important to get back to winning ways and we did just that with an excellent 3-1 win, it was only the opposition's second defeat of the season.

We started extremely well and completely played them off the park for the first 20 minutes which resulted in an team worked goal from Ryan Smith, his fifth this season. We continued to apply the pressure but were hit with a sucker punch just 5 minutes later when a long kick from the goalkeeper aided by the wind, evaded our center half and Girton's forward nipped in for the equaliser.

1-1 at half time was disappointing especially after dominating the first 45 mins. The second half started scrappily but we deservedly edged in front when a corner was prodded home by centre half Ray Gale, the home side applied the pressure searching for equaliser and hit the bar with a loopinh header in the last minute, we broke quickly and Smith coolly slotted in a 3rd to rap the win up.

All in all a good solid performance and looking forward to the next round at home where we will play Stretton Hotspur. Back to the league campaign next week and a trip to Deeping Sports where hopefully we can continue our winning ways in the league campaign.

Cheers

Langtoft United welcomed League 2 New boys Pinchbeck United this weekend knowing that anything less then a win wouldn’t do if they are to challenge for promotion this season.

The first 10/15mins of the game were pretty even with both teams playing the ball about quite nicely and neither goalkeeper having to make any memorable saves.

Then came the Langtoft goal, a ball crossed in low was met by a group of legs all scrambling for a touch which was touched in by Ricky Baker the keeper did the right thing by spreading himself but didn’t have a chance.

Not long after the dark clouds decided to open and with the heavy wind blowing it all in the face of the Pinchbeck team Langtoft began to dominate knowing that they would be facing it in the second half but due to some good keeping the ball was kept out and the teams left the field with the score 1-0.

Both the teams left the changing rooms with a roar of encouragement and the second half started very much like the first with decent defending from both sides keeping the score down and once again Langtoft started to dominate.

The wind and rain had dropped which allowed some decent football to be played Langtoft’s Defence still keeping the normally extremely fruitful Pinchbeck forwards at bay and it was due to some excellent keeping the score stayed 1-0.

With 10 minutes left Pinchbecks strong Centre forward broke clear with only the Keeper the beat and unleashed a shot which seemed certain to hit the back of the net (trust me my heart was in my mouth) but the Keeper Kevin Wells was equal to it and made a magnificent save which effectively won us the game.

Substitutions were made by both sides but it was a forced one that made the difference.

On came young Joe Fisher with only 5minutes at most left until the final whistle, Joe Stewart picked the ball up inside his own half who played Michael Sherman through on goal, the Pinchbeck Keeper came out to narrow the angle but Sherman had already released the ball and it was heading for the bottom corner slowly and it was certainly possible that the Pinchbeck defenders were going to make it to the ball and clear the danger, Young 16 year old Joe Fisher sprinting through and smashed the ball over the line wrapping up the points.
