View Full Version : Men Behaving Badly?

At the start of last season myself, Gino & Spec all agreed to give each other a bit of stick in the paper and on here to help spice the league up and get a bit of interest going. Now I have to hold my hands up to going over the top on a couple of occassions, but apologies have been made etc.

What it did do was to create unprecedented interest in the league, and the fantastic banter helped make last season the most enjoyable I have experienced as a manager - even though we missed out on the league to Whittlesey (I wonder whatever became of them?)

This season has been a nightmare to be honest, even though with Crowland replacing Ryhall the overall standard has risen. What with having your players tapped up by every Tom, Dick & Harry and the ones you do have not being available or bothered about playing, through the diffculties with the rep side to the PFA Cup shambles. Now I have publicy thanked everyone for their support over the PFA issue, but how much integrity do we all really have.

Lets say for example that you were about to play a side containing a player that you knew was ineligible even though the side you were playing didn't. Would you tell the club before the game? Personally I have done so in the past and would do again. Anything else to me is just not cricket and whilst we all want to be successful, do we advocate win at all costs? Am I being a bit niave here, a bit soft or has the game just got a bit more cut-throat even at our level?

Tommy, are you saying that is possible that Roger or one of his staff knew about Chris Kaye????????????

I have no idea if he did or didn't, but I have had quite a few conversations with people around would you / should you tell someone if they are about to break the rule and there seemed to be a couple of different schools of thought. Some thought you definately should say something, whilst others thought it was fine to say nothing as it is not your problem.

If you thought Roger was about to do it next week Gino, would you say something?

Hand on heart Tommy I would.

Happened or should i say nearly happened to me a few years back and to his credit Chris Judge pointed this out to us before the game and we left that player out. If Roger knew it would be nice to think he would have done the same?

I agree, and I put this topic up as a serious debate, not as a snide dig.

There have been so many rumours flying around, I have no idea what to believe - so and so spoke to so and so, and they definately knew etc. etc.

The point is that whereas the verdict on whether we should have been chucked out or not appears to be as near as damm it 100% that we shouldn't (unless you possess a purple tie) - the verdict on whether Alconbury should have said something if they knew has not been nearly so clear cut. Personally, I was quite shocked to think that they might have known, but wonder if this whole episode has made me see conspiracy theories everywhere (they were out to get you - just waiting for their chance etc etc.)

Looking forward to today Gino big style. Last year there was a nasty edge to the games (my fault), but this year as much as we both want to win, it isn't life or death is it - have a good drink after watching England get turned over by Argentina and then I'm off to see Bob Geldof at the Broadway - we are going to work together on a relief programme to try and bring some much needed points into Whittlesey!

Certainly hope that Perkins win - Alconbury seem to have got off pretty lightly in their role in Ortonians being chucked out of cup for me - don't cock it up you lightweight Perkins boys!

What did Alconbury do wrong?

It's not their problem if Ortonians didn't do their job properly - every team for themself mate and good luck to them - they must have been laughing their nuts off after the game, though probably thought they would get a replay rather than a gimmee.

Does mean now that no team in their right mind will tell a team before the game if they think one of the other teams players is a bit dodgy - will be loving it as they know they are thru no matter wot the result
