View Full Version : Combination Division 2
This could be a tight league this year. Who do you think are going to be the front runners?
psl res's without a shadow of a doubt. they were very unlucky not to go up last year as they seemed to stutter in important games when the pressure was really on and a very volotile keeper (who walked off in the last game of last season and cost the team runners up!) didn't help at all!. last season a lot of key players were called into the first team when they were being let down by their "stars" which also cost the res's a lot of points. this season should be different as the new 1st team management of tommy and al wont be p***ed about by people and i think the 1st team will have quite a good season.
with the issues that cost psl res's the title let alone runners up(battered winners chatteris twice last season!) the manager (biffa bacon) has been shrewd with some superb signings that should go a long way in solving the problems of last season.
hcore i think you're involved with pinchbeck res's and as i said on this site last season that although your res's beat psl res's in the cup last season i feel we should've beaten you but you were probably the brightest, fittest and most organised team we faced last season and you were in the league below us! i think you should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
Hey jb. I dont have anything to do with Pinchbeck. I am from the Spalding area, and I follow the local scene. Sounds like you were unlucky last year then. If Pinchbeck Reserves have managed to keep everyone from last year, then I imagine they should be up there challenging along with yourselves. Interesting to see how they will fare though, stepping up a league and playing better sides than last season.
All the best for the coming season jb.
Is it known yet which teams will be in which divisions?
The teams making up the Combination Division 2 are;
Alconbury Res
Crowland Town Res
Doddington UTD Res
Eye Sports & Social Res
Gedney Hill Res
Kings Cliffe UTD Res
Langtoft United Res
Leverington Sports A
Netherton United Reserves
Peterborough Sports Res
Pinchbeck UTD Res
Uppingham Town Res
Ketton Reserves
Wimblington FC Reserves
March St Marys are in Combination Division 3 and Division 2.
I think it will be very close next year with the eventual winners probably being out of Peterborough Sports, Netherton, Wimblington or Alconbury.
With Wimblington Harriers and Old Boys joining forces I think they could be a surprise package.
I hope its Netherton but whatever happens it should be a good season.
Just out of curiousity how have people viewed Gedney Res over the past couple of seasons?
Obviously not as a potential title winner given peoples favourites list.
Would just like to know.

I see no one has mentioned Pinchbeck reserves being in the frame for the title. I am not going to say we will win it, as I would have to put Peterborough Sports favourites, but I do think we will be very close.
Look forward to playing against you all!!!
erm i mentioned earlier in the thread that pichbeck should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season :scr:

What about the likes of Werrington? Did they not get relegated last year?
Also I thought Ketton would have been sent down as they finished bottom!

St. Marys look to have attracted some of the Wimblington Harriers 1st team. However, would expect 'Wimbos' top two teams to be fairly strong this season.
Good win then for PSL res over Eye should be interesting to see how we (Gedney) do this season from the friendlies we have played I have to say we dont look to bad?
But then Im not 100% on what the standard is like in this division so...
Anyone got any mid week games in this division this week?

Hi lee, PSL res manager,
It was a good game( apart from playing in a storm)
Gotta be honest , eye were very dominant in the 1st 10 mins, i had to make 8 or 9 saves....and of course ..let 1 in ..
They have got an awesome strike force and a hard battling midfield ..although i'm not the kind of person to slate anyone but thier defence was very dodgy at times .....saying that they again are a young side, fit quick and should take points of a lot of teams ....keep an eye on them ....
were we ment to play you wed ?????johnny cannon saw me friday and said it was canx ???? to be honest we will struggle to get a team for wed mate.
looking forwrd to meeting you guy's this year , should be a good couple of games.when is your first league game ??????
Alright Biff,
Yeah what happened was (in respect of our proposed game Wed) Al see my post on here for a friendly request and he said instead of a friendly we could arrange a league game so I left it with him and Dave nothing came of it?
But we are set to play in three weeks anyway I think?
Our first league game is this coming Saturday away to Ketton.
You played in goal? From when I use to come and watch PSL res a couple of seasons ago you was actually a good striker always likely to score a few! Anyway, a win is always a good start... I kind of leave you with my best wishes for the season and will look forward to speaking wit ya throughout it, cheers mate.
you couldn't have asked for an easier start lee! of you batter ketton keep your boys feet on the ground as most teams will take away 3 points from there
Dont take anything for granted in football... always a potential banana skin, dont want to be disrespectful to Ketton so I will tell you after where it will be valid opinion on what I have seen of them.
(Takes the diplomatic approach  )
Would just like to say thank you to the guys from Moulton for coming over to Gedney for the game... a good physical game of football. Shame we had to hand both goals to you but thats football.
Thanks once again and best of luck for the season.

did u win last nights friendly last night lee?
Drew mate 2-2 twice threw away the lead through goalkeeping human errors one dropped over his head and the other slid under other than that they never looked like scoring.
Nonetheless we could have six or seven at the other end so quite pleased. Overall we looked physical and sharp exactly how I like it!

Did he win last nights friendly - last night ?
when else would it have been?? last nights friendly last week?
sorry - had to be done mate....
Well done Lee, who were you playing again (sorry if I've missed that already!)??
We played Perkins Res the other week, we had 4 or 5 players missing through work and injury and lost 4-1, it was 1-1 at HT and then was forced into substitutes and it slid from there, they'll be a top 3 team again this season I'd say

Good game last night. Really enjoyed it and was pleased with the performance of some of the young lads in the 1st half. Particularly the 15 year old who played up front for 30 mins.
Holding you to a 1-0 socreline was good particularly when you were up against a team with only 2 guys over 20.
Didn't help having so many players (20 in the end i think) there and changing every 15 minutes so everyone could get a good run out.
Think you will be ok this season. Number 6 is a decent player. Could be better if he didnt try to ref and run the line at the same time.
Anyway, Good luck for the season lads.
Your second half left back when he came on was very good and can cross the ball a treat but...
If only 2 of your twenty odd lads were over 20 then I think a few of them should get down to the walk in centre as they must have serious physical health issues!
If anything it was the changes that helped you stay in the game fresh legs all the while as opposed to our dead ones.
Well it was hard them only having a lino on one side of the pitch watching our defence
Anyway must go and get on with some work hope you have a good season.

well done lee i see u got my local res's off to a flyer! shame about the dirty 1st team losing 2 the jub.
did u play the same players u put out against my lads pre-season?
No it was not that team Al. What it is, when I took over the side there was NO PLAYERS and I had to build a whole new side within 1month!
When you played Gedney you played the first team two of my lads helped out as subs.
We would have battered you if I put my side out
Joking aside the lads have gelled quickly in the games we have played and we have had an up beat confidence prior to that game we shall not be getting carried away, there is always room for improvement and I shall hopefully have these lads ticking over just nicely, it will be fascinating to see how we finish?

hey just to say pinchbeck reserves are looking sharpe at the minute and on saturday beat langtoft reserves 5-1 a team in the same league as them this season so looking good and all players are ready for a tough game this saturday
Pinchbeck reserves are not as strong as last season. I know that they have lost 3-4 key players to the first team.
Will be interesting to see how they fare this year. They certainly will find it a lot tougher than last year, and I see they have a difficult away fixture at Peterborough Sports. I am going for a home win on this one.
thats fair enough opinion hcore but as a pinchbeck 1st team player i know we have taken 2 players but the reserves have gained 4-5 new players this season! they will find it harder obviously its a higher league but will still be a good team and there abouts

Pinchbeck open account in this division with a convincing 3-0 beating of Peterborough Sports Reserves. Do not under estimate this team they will be one of the most organised and fittest reserve teams that you will play.

From what i saw ( besides watching my daughter open her B'day presents)
the wheather did'nt look to great . i think i had the better idea staying at home this saturday !!!
Alrite Biff,
Yeah it was a good win. Leverington were clearly a very physical side but, on the day we more than matched them in that department the weather was ridiculous the wind was very strong and given all the unexpected swerve on the ball we did well to come out of it with a cleansheet.
Cannot complain of our start 12 goals in two games none conceeded long may it continue! Very much looking forward to what should hopefully be a good game whatever this coming Saturday.

I had to laugh Biff reading your above post, know that feeling only to well... lonely at the top aye :fdl:
Lucky you brought them presents now with how them league fines come in *brk*
No Lee Crowland have not played a game yet, should have played Eye Sports this weekend just gone but they called it off. We have got Wimblington this weekend. Not sure what to expect really five players left to go to gedney hill and a couple to the first team so a fairly new team for this season, but with the rate the first team are bringing in players we may get some of them drop down yet.
Gedney Hill reserves, Pinchbeck United Reserves and Peterborough Sports Reserves will finish in the top three. As far as I'm aware there are still some very good players due back at Pinchbeck UTD.

No complaints about our result yesterday. We were rubbish. And not wanting to take anything away from Alconbury, but they weren't much better either.
If we keep playing like that, then never mind promotion, it's relegation we should be worried about.
Yeah well done biff mate a hard fought game from both teams and one I feel we could quite easily have won... but towards the end easily have lost! So weighing up a good point for both teams (regardless of what our players say! I heard your lot screwing in changing rooms after, mine were obviously gutted to twice give away a lead but thats football.)
No quite sure what to say about the ref without being to contraversial aye !!! :hbgr:

Hi Lee,
Gotta be totally truthfull mate .. your lads were up fro it.. we neva really got going! you totally deserved to win that game cuz your lads had Passion and gutz and determination .. how ever .... i think that the wonder strike ( ) by a legend , brought psl a bit of light shall we say .. but only for 10 mins ... gotta be honest , it was great for tokxy to get megged for me score    you have a good bunch of players there .I think if you can keep that squad together for most of the season you will certainly be in the top 4 !!!
Nice for pinchbeck to through a game for us .. do you think that they have been caught up in the BBC "BUNG" claims along wiv Harry redknapp !
Look for ward to playng you again, i thought that it was a hard , but mostly fair game ( Part from the handbags in 2nd half)
roll on the home legg !!!! :ndg:
Have to say that Pinchbeck were poor. Poor finishing, poor passing, poor communication etc.... the list goes on. There attitude was wrong from the start with 60% of the team turning up very late. If an away team can get there for 2 o'clock coming the distance they did why the hell can't Pinchbeck?! Pinchbeck Res need to get there act together.
I hope this is just a small glitch.
I thought I'll keep quite about ya goal and see how long it takes to mention
Great strike mate keeper had no chance (if he got near it he would av been in the net to!)
Told ya thats where you should be, not in the sticks buddy!

Cheers PUFC,
Really enjoyed the game to be honest its always better when you get two teams that want to play football instead of argue start fights and get the hump when the Ref hasn't given a decision their way,
If you are correct and we are up at the top end of the table come the end of the year I'm sure you wont be far behind us we were very pleased with that win as we see you lot as one of the top teams.
Now on to another tricky game v Crowland who look like they have come to life..
Langtoft,
Play you did on Saturday and they will be a push over.
6:0 my prediction
Langtoft will probably be favourite but it wont be a pushover, we are getting better each week. First four games so far have been like our pre season what with not really having one this year.

Yeah I took over this season and brought in a lot of new players. We have a squad that has great spirit and wants to win the league, however as kings cliffe taught us on the 1st day of the season we can't take anyone for granted.
you had a good win at weekend over pinchbeck they kicked our arse, but they wasn't as good as all the hype i had heard pre season. Have you played Gedney or Netherton
True donk!
We are certainly not as good as last season. Too many players at the club think it's going to be another walk in the park.
Over confidence is not something we have suffered from this year, our problem is getting a regular squad week in week out. I think this weekend we have 2 of the starting 11 missing but 2 more back who missed last weekend. If everybody showed up the at the same weekend we would have more players Chelsea
Your in good form personally though donk, I noticed you scoring the other Sunday morning.
i like to keep my hand in muggy, keeping you a shirt warm at the res's for when you get bored with 1st team or when you are on a come back from your latest career threatening injury

No haven't played them yet, gotta focus on what is infront of us which is obviously Crowland although I believe we have Gedney the week after.

Well done to Pinchbeck great win for them today still in the title race for sure seems like there is 4 teams up there this year. Should be a great game this weekend...
Is that my que to bite Langtoft?
It should hopefully be a good game. Weve played a few games now but only once at home? So our form travelling aint that bad which is good as we are away yet again this week!
Bluebell had a good win this week against a good side (17-1!) so a repeat for Gedney next week would be nice so we can keep our noses in front!

haha no it wasn't a invite but fair play...
We do owe you one for pre season and like your away form our home form has been excellent
Well Done Langtoft!
Not so well done to the ref (For both teams, largely ours!) *roolz*
Sending off our player then letting him stay on cus player told him he was wrong  Disallowing a goal cus player was 'offside' yet player ran at them with the ball HE had won and then scored himself
Just two of the theatrical decisions he made either way.
Bad day at the office for us all should have known it was going to be that way when we only had two cars to get 16 people to Langtoft, worst we have played without a doubt not one person had a good game. It happens and we will bounce back that I am sure off. Bluebell gave me something to smile about this weekend at least!

I agree with you there Lee he made some well dodgy decisions we didnt play that brilliantly ourselves although some of your football was excellent it was mentioned about your one touch stuff keep that up for 90mins and you could defo play at a higher level.
Still think your lot are a bunch of nutters..
Good luck mate look forward to the rematch
This weekends big clash between Pinchbeck Res and Langtoft Res should be quite a cracker! This time Pinchbeck have only one injury caused last week to a two footed challenge (thanks to Alcombury No. 10).
Prdeictions here...

Looking forward to the game on Saturday although unfortunately I won't be playing.
It may be early in the season, but I would have to say it's a 6 pointer for us. If we are going to have a chance of winning the league, then Saturday has become a "must win" game, as I can't see Langtoft dropping too many points.
It will be nice to be involved in a game where 2 teams try to play instead of one team trying to kick lumps out of you!!!!

It's not that bad to find Langtoft.
When you hit Pinchbeck, keep on the main road until you see a pub on the corner on your left called The Bull. You need to turn left at the pub which takes you into Knight Street. Follow it down until you see a chip shop/Chinese (very nice one too) on your left and the entrance is about 30 yards past this (just after the railings).
Hope thats clear.
That's clear but I bet he still goes past it !! It's as the young man says but just after the railings there's a very very very small (this is not a big track) track that doesn't look like it goes anywhere, it's down there ! If you come to a road on your left that leads to a housing estate then you've gone past it but there's a pub further up from there if you've had enough of looking for it ! good luck guys and may the best team win, and don't go throwing cans of stella away alcohol is a very sacred thing !!!

What was your view on the game, because I was speaking to a couple of players after the game from the ressies and they say they should of had it wrapped up when they were on nil up. But a good result for your boys tho.

1st half was pretty even!
2nd half your lot started alot brighter safe to say you were all over us and deserved the lead up until the 60th minute all of a sudden your defence looked all over the place we scored from a freekick, we took charge then however you had one chance where you cf was 1 on 1 and bottled it tried to play in cartlidge but over played it and he missed!
we scored a second after some good work then the 3rd was a screamer which wrapped it up!
You defo had 3 chances which should have been buried considering the amount of goals you managed last season and this year so far was quite surprising!
Still not complaining was defo the hardest game we have had this season you will turn loads of teams over on the pitch!
But Not Us

not to bad a lil bumpy in places,
yeah it took us a while but managed it in the end
The staff do a wonderful job on that pitch. I would say one of the best in the Prem and Com Div 2.
