we'll win the world cup.. and all because of my 1 lucky curtain!! keeping it closed for all match's, seem's to be working so far. but then again, maybe if i opened it they might play better. oh god, don't no what to do now?!

It's ok, I've had an idea, gonna support Spain tonight and leave both curtains open!! that way if they lose i can return to the one closed curtain idea, Brilliant..

After the disaster that was the spanish game you'll be glad to no i'm reverting to the one closed lucky curtain for the England game, just in case anyone was worried!

We can blame ref's, cheating Portugese etc. etc. but if we do we are deluding ourselves.

Was at the Germany v Argentina game on Friday and the England game yesterday, and the other 3 are in a different league when it comes to ball retention, movement, a coherent system, ideas, and yes sadly operating on the edge of, and sometimes beyond the rules of the game.

Argentina must be the most gutted - best team in the tournament and out because the coach lost his bottle at 1-0 up when they looked like beating Germany with some comfort.

Can only go on what I have seen but team of the tournament playing 4-4-2 (with players playing in their proper positions Sven!): -

Buffon (ITA)
Zambrotta (ITA), Canavarro (ITA), Ayala (ARG), Lahm (GER)
Ribery (FRA), Kaka (BRA), Vierra (FRA), Robben (HOL)
Torres (SPA), Klose (GER)

Sven has confused me. we are in the quarters played real poor with the dodgy defensive system. Why on earth would you stick with a system that just doesnt work when you no 1 mistake against an opponent as good as Portugal is game over. You may disagree but Hargreaves was one of our better players (Chelski fan) but Lampard should have been sat out and Hargreaves and Gerrard in the middle we should of started with the lennon on the right and WHY oh WHY take a kid that has never even played for their club when defoe or Bent or even Johnson could have been used so many times just to give the other teams something to think about. Gutted Roo got the red didnt think he meant it (no really) and then he subs lennon and brings on a full back. He bottled it.
Lennon was fresh and would have probably been hyped for a pen.
Guess that will be the end of Joe Cole on the left then as the new gaffer loves Downing! shame.

Lesson number 1 - www.hotelanderoper.de is in Berlin (room booked for Richie Baines) - www.hotelanderoper.com is in Munich (room booked for me).

Lesson number 2 - don't agree to do an interview for Mexican TV if you can't speak Spanish

Lesson number 3 - go to the World Cup every time you can - it is a fantastic experience, but don't watch an England game. Though most of the fans are now living in this century there are still a significant minority of idiots who don't know how to behave in someone elses country.

Final was an ok game, but spoiled by the theatrical antics of players from both sides as was most of the tournament - football is in a bit of trouble unless it can sort this out.

My postings on here will be selective special appearances Hyppia, but I don't think I will be bored when I check my diary - After spending each of the last 5 week-ends in Germany coming up I have the European Athletic Championships in Gothenburg, 10 days in Scotland, Daughters wedding, Skippys Wedding, week-end in London, Newmarket races, Beer festival, St Leger at York, 11 days In Boston (USA!), xmas shopping in Lubijana (Slovenia), the Cricket World Cup in St Lucia and Antigua next March / April, 2 games in the 6 nations rugby, a weekend in Munich watching Bayern play (might do the same in Madrid) as well as fitting in a few Ipswich games and Peterborough League games under my role as rep team manager.

Glad you like the new title - Ortonians are gone and it is time to move on.

Good shout Mark - worthy of one of my selective postings in response.

2-0-19-0 Foggy - got you a final program in English which were and are already like goldust (no-one else I know who went has managed to get one)- they are pretty good actually though they covered the 3/4 place play off and rest of the tournament as well.

Robbo - sent you a picture message (at least I thought I did?) as you requested - will send you an e-mail as well

Spec - hope you got my text with the telephone numbers of ex-Ortonains players you might be interested in - one of them actually phoned me tonight for advice on where he should go and I naturally portrayed Hotpoint in an appropriate light.
