I have just had an e-mail from Steve Fisher, Chairman, Leverington Sports FC advising me of the sad news.

Mark

Neville passed away on Sunday and I would be grateful if you would notify the management committee as they requested when I met them at the recent cup final.

I am going away on holiday for a few days so perhaps you could put a small notice on the forum. I registered but apparently it has to be approved first.

Neville was the longest serving secretary in the FA and was very proud of that. He was in his mid eighties but was still actively involved in running the club until January this year. It was then that he finally agreed to have some help from Jackie Clancey.

Many thanks

Steve Fisher

Players come and go so do mangers but Neville Missin was involved at Leverington in one way or another for over 50 years.
Secretary, fixture secretary and groundsman too how lucky were Leverington to have someone like him in their fold.
He always attended the league's agm and perched himself in the front row and was always ready to have his say if he felt the league committee were getting things wrong (a man of my own heart I think)
He even made time to provide visitors to Leverington with a half-time brew and it was a pretty good cuppa too on a cold afternoon.
I personally shall miss my encounters with Neville and no doubt the people of leverington wll miss him even more.
There are few people like him in local football today who can povide the time and energy to a football club.
God bless you Neville and my condolences to his family.

very rarely agree with you Chris - but on this occassion your post is spot on and obviously from the heart - nice one.
Local football can ill afford to lose men of such calibre.

Deepest condolences to Neville's family, friends and all at Leverington Sports F.C. from Whittlesey United F.C.

Great idea from Leverington to have a family fun day on Sunday August 13th, and to include a game between Leverington & a Peterborough League side in honour of Neville.

I will be in touch with as many managers etc as possible over the next few weeks to ensure that we put out a decent side and show due respect to one of the great characters and stalwarts of the local game.

Just come off the phone in fact to Chris Judge, who along with Robbo is helping me put the side together.

CJ will be talking to Roger re Alconbury players. I have numbers for Alex/Gino, Spec, Al & Humpy and will get in touch

BLUEBOY - Would appreciate a couple of Whittlesey players being put forward - could you have a word with Butters / Lee

MOULTON boys various - same to you

GLEN BOLDEN - no-one from Oundle seems to come on here anymore - get Seb to give me a bell or respond through this cheaper medium!

PUFC Army - would have wanted the keeper, but I hear he has moved up? Would also like to select Gavin Posey if he is still with you - don't have Tony's number but if interested in putting someone forward either respond on this thread or on a private message

Keen to have as many clubs represented as possible to be honest - happy to take calls on my mobile 07957 626587 (serious please given the nature of the game) - ideally would like there to be 16 players there on the day including 2 keepers

Thanks already to all of you that have contacted me expressing interest in contributing towards Neville's game. (Not got 16 central midfielders yet either).

Carefree/Al I seem to have Al's old number could you please contact Carefree/Al to see if anyone from PSL would like to be involved?

Incidently the game is a 2pm kick off on the Sunday, and is part of a much larger fun day the village are hosting on the day with ice creams and bouncy castles etc.

Marketing is all about creating awareness Spec and I knew that Ice Cream and Bouncy Castles would press your buttons!

Glen - cheers mate and good to see you taking part in pre-season this year (bring a coat!!!!!!!!!!)

Leverington are keen for as many clubs as possible to get involved and as it is difficult for me to know who has signed where, and in the case of the better players who might have moved up (like Treacher & Beeny) so need you guys to help me as much as possible on this one

Difficult for you to know who has signed where, I am going to wait until our end of season do to truly know who signed and played for me
Anyway I've come out of hiding now and nearly had enough of this site for a while, playing tonight in a nice friendly at Eaton Socon and waiting with baited breath to see who turns up or who else has gone elsewhere.
A few rats left the sinking ship but the bands still playing on.
Are you up yet Leftley or do you need your morning alarm call (which is the 40 rashers of bacon, 24 sausages and 17 eggs sizzling in the pan and setting the smoke alarm off, happy eating chubbs)

Spec have you had that rum and raisen recently thats strong **** you know. but i wouldnt have time for ice cream not if there is a bouncy castle involved. tho there may be a warning that any one looking over the age of 60 or with heart conditions may not use the bouncy castle so you best steer clear ;-)

Getting a decent squad together (with a few of last seasons Ortonians lads featuring!)

Would still like to have representation from Moulton, PSL, Whittlesey and Stamford Bells if possible - I know that some of you guys are working on this for me, but I want to get this done and dusted by the end of Wednesday really.

Impressive line up Al - could you have a word with Ben Lawrence, Paul Attfield & Dwayne Rankin - if any of those can't play then Joe Duffy & Robbie Osker. Would want at least 2 if possible and to be honest most of yours would do me fine.

If you could have a word today / tomorrow, I will bell you tomorrow night to confirm (I am down in London this evening) - arrangement is to be at Leverington at 1 for a 2 o'clock kick off.

Cheers

Thanks to all of you that helped put together what has ended up a decent side for Sunday - 7 different sides represented -would have hoped for a couple more but I have no idea what is happening at clubs like Crowland, Wimblington & Parson Drove I am afraid, and was not able to get hold of anyone from Stamford Bells or Uppingham. Hoping that Humpy also puts forward someone from Hampton before the weekend, but we have 15 players at present in anycase (though with these sides you get late drop outs for some reason!)

Good luck to both sides and I hope that the day goes well

Anybody go to the game today? How did it all go down?

Tommy Trophy

All's well that ends well!

The Peterborough League side won 7-1 against Leverington today (Goodayle - 3, M.Baines - 2, R. Baines & K. Robinson), with both sides missing players from their preferred line ups.

Indeed only 7 of the 16 players confirmed as being in the team on Thursday actually played for the League side. The drop outs were a combination of numerous injuries that were either genuine or timely as well as a couple that were down to straight forward non appearances, which is extreme bad manners given that the game was being played out of respect for the long standing Leverington stalwart Neville Missin.

I fully intend restoring the reputation of the League Representative side and making it something that all of the players in the league aspire to appearing in. The no show players will certainly never again appear in a side under my stewardship as I have introduced a one strike and you are out rule - the easiest thing would be for me to hand over the poison chalice to someone else, but this is a battle I intend winning.

For the record the actual league side was Graham Robinson (Ex-Ortonians!), Phil Groves (Moulton), Simon Fitzjohn (Alconbury), Darren Fogg (Perkins), Mick Gale (Whittlesey), Mark Randall (PSL), Lee Harbour (Perkins), Gavin Mcpartlin (Moulton), Mark Baines (Fletton), George Goodayle (Perkins) & Richard Baines (Alconbury) with the subs Alex Foster (Alconbury), Tim Gale (Whittlesey), Kevin Robinson (Ex-Ortonians) and Mark Speechley (Fletton).

Many thanks to all those players that showed due respect to the occasion and the player list is self explanatory in terms of the clubs that supported the day - well done to you all (especially Spec who played in goal for the last 60 minutes) and shame on those of you that did not contribute when you could and should have done.

Also thanks to all at Leverington for your hospitatlity, the hard worked physio in particular and good luck to Wayne & Co for the season.

Abosolutely first class showing from the league boys and a good afternoon for myself as well. It was great to see that the sunshine came out for Neville. Well done to all that showed their respects and a thumps down to those that could not be bothered when they had advised that they would attend. Nethertheless there was good performances out there and I am looking forward to seeing the players throughout the season.

I agree with Tommy the league reps side should be taken seriously and supported by all clubs.

Well done again

Glad it went well. I remember him being down there for a less than glamourous Hereward OB v Leverington A tie. Welcomed in beforehand, and given a cup of tea at half time. All teams could do with someone like Neville, sadly they are few and far between.

A big thanks to Tommy and his team for making it a pretty memorable 'Memorial Day' for Neville. Whilst the results are not that important on days like that the standard of football played by the Rep side was impressive to say the least. You did yourselves proud with both your attitude towards the game and the level of performance you put in.

I do hope the goalies injury was not to bad and I would appreciate it if you would let me know what the outcome was/is.

Thanks to Mark for the Photo's and to Dave, Lawrence and the other assistant whose name I did not get (many apologies) for officiating the match. Thanks to Phil Mitcham for refereeing the Vets match. A special mention also to Dave and Tommy, our groundstaff, for presenting a fantastic surface to play football on.

I had known Neville for 35 years and it was great to see players from every decade from the fifties onwards watching the matches and having a beer. The 'old boy' has now been given a proper and fitting send off and the club are very grateful to all those who helped make it possible.

Robbo, what a way to bring the curtain down on your legendary career, managed by Tommy Cooper, replaced by me, seeing a sprightly 43 year old Tim Gale stroking the ball around like a teenager and having Mark Chambers capture it all on film, just what was the secret of your eternal youth ???

:bye: Great memories !! Got you in the Oak Sunday night though I bet....

Anyone read tonights ET? - apparently I have now introduced a "1 stroke rule and you are out!"

Don't want to go overboard re no-shows, but I checked my phone and I had 56 incoming or outgoing calls or text messages Sunday morning alone - you can also add 6 replacements who didn't play to the 9 that pulled out post Thursday.

However we got a side out who did a great job - Spec even dived under a shot to give Leverington a consolation and spare me a clean sheet round at the bar! (Foggy any chance of any change??)

Robbo - I did tell you to let the Leverington Reserves keeper go in goal for us after neither of our keepers showed, but you got a right monk on!!

Mark please change my picture to the happy smiley one everyone associates me with that you took Sunday

sorry about the psl player that didnt show but if u ring him i think u will find his reason 4 not turning up at the shell garage understandable,i know it only takes a moment 2 pick up the phone but best u ask him. wish psl hadn't played gedney hill on sat now as i have joe duffy out 3-6 wks, robbie osker doubtful, and dwayne rankin not playing but watching with a strain frm the side line. 6 friendlies(no such thing) 6 wins but at a price. 4 players out!

No problem with Dwayne, Robbie & Joe Al - I had plenty of notice and Scott Duffy told me about Joe as well on Sunday morning.

Not sure why the other one would have had his phone switched off all morning or not answered his phone 3 times to me or by Darren Fogg so less forgiving there - don't worry he wasn't alone!

This site is rapidly becoming a deflection of the truth:

The score was only 1 - 0 when I went in goal
Following my 4 assists it was very quickly put to bed
I only dived under the shot to save you buying a round Tommy because you promised me 3 pints and only bought 2
Tommy never smiles
If the PSL player in question is Welsh, get used to the excuses.

On a more serious note, it was a great day out marred by the injury to Robbo but I'm sure we can come up with something between us Tommy to make sure our Geordie friend is not out of pocket at all - I have a few suggestions and if you'd like to come up with an idea we can get our heads together. Yellow socks don't suit me........
