Interesting game finishing with a score 1-3
We passed and moved well across the pitch although their passing was slightly crisper. One goal to them in the first half was a commincation break down between a defender and the goal keeper, a back pass which ended up costing us. We created numerous chances in both halves and had at least as many as Deeping, if not more. We had a one on one which should have resulted in a goal, but didnt. In the second half a rather blatant foul from another of our defenders left a penalty kick awarded against us. Our keeper saved the intial penalty but not the rebound, finished by the original penalty kick taker. We really did play some good football, and we were most impressed at our fitness level and lack of fatique througout the match. A bit of a scramble around the edge of the box saw a nice shot slotted past the Deeping keeper from one of our potential forwards. It was 1-2 with not too many minutes left when a Deeping striker burst through and put one away, finishing the game Kings Cliffe United 1 Deeping Rangers United 3. Two goals gifted by two mistakes.
We were most encouraged that Deeping allegedly had four usually first teamers playing in that game, although you can never be too sure about those kind of statements; however, even more encouraging was that we had four first teamers missing! I have no doubt that with a full squad we are capable of performing significantly better. Potentially we will have a couple players back this week, needed for our friendly Saturday against Uppingham, away. Looking forward to it.
Really can't wait until the first game of the season!
