RWT 7 a side, on Grass pitches

Last night was the first time I refereed small sided football on a grass pitch, and the performance of players compared to their abilities on astro turf, was seriously of concern.

In 5 matches, involving 8 teams (64 players) only three had the touch, control, awareness, and overall ability, that approx twenty would produce on astroturf.


The playing surface was average, but the basic skills other nations coach into their players from the U9 age groups, on similar surfaces, shows the depth of how far behind we are.

I agree with that Nick mate. It was almost laughable when we were down there Sunday watching ourselves and other teams, you wouldnt have thought it affects it so much would ya?

my lads on wed took time and a lot of harsh words from me to go back to 7 a side close control and not keep humping it forwards! it worked eventually and i was pleased with the performances. takes time to adapt. better results than astro produced. cmon woodston!!!!!!!!!!!
