View Full Version : Vauxhall Div 2
Just been reading the old stuff in the Comb Div 2 thread and thought I would try to get some views on the Vauxhall Div 2.
I see that I went for Stilton, Thorney, Coates. Stilton dropped 3 points Sat that I wasn't expecting, so my revised detailed prediction is as follows with Griffin Pk holding all the cards that could completely change the league.
Thorney on 61pts
Stilton on 60pts
Coates on 57pts
Griffin Pk on 55pts
Farcet on 54pts
Manea on 52pts
Anyone care for a wager ?
Just to attempt to throw that spanner in the works.
If Griffin Pk win all their games in hand, I make it that they win the league by 6 points, with my predictions for the other games.
Although Thorney and Stilton continue to prove me wrong.

Gary,
As no-one else has had a bash for what it's worth here's my reckoning!!
I've had the luxury of now knowing saturday's results (Stilton's defeat!!) so i'll let you have a little re-think if you want!!!
Thorney 64pts
Coates 58pts
Stilton 55pts
G Park 54pts
Manea 52pts
Farcet 48pts
Have to agree though, pretty tough to sort out and agree that despite thorney's position (looks safe now!!!) i think the rest all depend on Griffin Park!!! They have got to play all the above at least one by my reckoning so could have a massive influence on who goes up in second!!!!

Guys,
Been loathe to get involved in any predictions in order to avoid tempting fate but I certainly wouldn't have predicted Stilton's apparent recent collapse.
My predictions are not too different - I think we've done enough but who knows with Stilton and Griffin Park still to play.
1. Thorney 61
2. Coates 56
3. Stilton 55
4. Griffin Park 55
5. Manea 52
6. Farcet 50
Whilst Griffin Park have lots of games in hand they've got a tough run in - including visits to Thorney, Coates and Guyhirn - home and away against Farcet as well as entertaining Stilton and Manea. They also have two cup finals (North Cambs and Cambs Lower Junior) to fit in. If they can get through all that with enough points to pip us then they'll deserve all the medals the league can throw at them. I guess we'll see.
Cracking game the week before by the way. Once again there was little to choose between the sides and with luck we'll be doing it all again next season in division 1.

Looks like an interesting run in to the end of the season, it's a shame our div don't get as much mentioning in the paper as the 1st div or prem.
I predict thorney to win the league ( i think they done just enough ), griffin park second ( if they can beat my farcet side saturday ), coates third, stilton 4th ( good luck to stilton in our upcoming final ) farcet 5th and manea 6th.
Congrats to who ever wins the league

I agree that thorney have done enough to win the league. I agree thorneyboy if Griffin Park can get through that run-in they'll deserve everything they win!
I believe we play them this saturday at our place, so a must win game for us to keep the pressure on those around us and a must win game for them, also i'm guessing they'll be pumped for this given the result at their place which seems like an eternity away now!!!
Dave i thought we had griffin park at our place this saturday - originally we tried to get the fixture re-arranged but lawerence wasn't able to do it and when i spoke with him yesterday he said we had to play them this saturday

No game for Coates firsts this weekend. So it will be worth having a look to see how things pan out.
Understand Griffin Pk have had a mini revolution since we played them so who knows. Even if they have a few new players they have to keep them all fit and available. Tough to do at this level.
Read your report ThorneyBoy, fair assesment. Where has all the tension come from between the two teams ? I guess its a lot of banter. Only yours to lose now.
We lost it to Manea and Farcet. Aaaaaarrrrgggghhh 8 points dropped. The rest were fair enough. Although Sat we were lucky, did everything we could to lose it.

To be fair I think all the tension between Coates and Thorney is on the pitch. Everyone had a drink and a laugh afterwards so I guess that's just two evenly matched sides going at it!
Our lot are certainly a spiky bunch on the pitch which I don't mind if we control it but our disciplinary record this season is atrocious - 2 more bookings and we've triggered a £75 fine for 45 points.
Although if we do get there (promotion/title) I'll think we've thoroughly deserved it the key has been not dropping too many points against the likes of Farcet, Manea, Guyhirn etc. Mind you - away to Doddington this week so let's hope I've not opened my big mouth too soon.
Glad you're reading the match reports - I always try to maintain fairness and respect to the opposition and referee. I remember finding a review on the net of a game we played vs Ramsey Reserves a couple of seasons back - needless to say it wasn't very complimentary about us so when we went to their place for the return I pinned it up on the dressing room wall - we won!!

a £75 fine for 45 points.

Thats a bit harsh, its £33 for 50 points in Lincolnshire,
is it the PFA or the county FA?

Cambs FA - we've already been fined £25 and £50 - it is a bit harsh and very expensive but I guess it's the price of ill discipline.

Griffin Park have brought in some new players which has made a top 7 team strong promotion contenders. 2 lads in from March Town, and a striker who I think played a high standard in saturday football in the Downham Market area (and scored for fun in the Wisbech Sunday League). This combined with recent results I think now gives them a good opportunity to nab second spot. Well done to Thorney who look to have gone up. Coates and Stilton have also been impressive this season, and are probably too good for the division.

Just wanted to say well done to our boys for achieving promotion on Saturday. A lot of credit goes to manager Gary Smith who has moulded the team into a side that plays bright attractive football and our record since Christmas has been superb. I think it's 9 clean sheets in that time and that includes playing everyone else in the top 6. The side is young and predominantly local as well so it makes it all the sweeter.
I still maintain that Coates are the best side we've played and they could win the league for us if they beat Griffin Park on Saturday. Otherwise we have our own opportunity next Wednesday and what a great finale that could be to the season.
All in all I think it's been a good competitive season that will go right down to the wire and that's a credit to all the teams involved.

Congrats thorney boy's for getting promoted ( and possibly winning the league ), although i do favour Griffin Park to take the div 2 title.
We played them couple weeks back ( even tho we aint the best side about ) and they were awesome! A completely different team to last year. They have a lot of new and younger players that play good football. But never the less, well done.
Just want to add a big CONGRATULATION'S to my boy's ( Farcet Utd ) on there 3-2 win over stilton in the HUNTS LOWER JUNIOR CUP FINAL last wednesday at Yaxley's ground, fantastic game to be a part of.

Gone very quiet on here! My season in all honesty ended around Xmas time - tried to play a couple of games but same niggling injury kept playing me up. Has reduced me to playing short stints in a local 5 a side league when my mates were short in numbers!!!
However, despite St. Marys season ending on a whimper, they would have taken that many points considering how they did last season. It has been interesting at the other end though, particularly with Griffin Parks late run which puts them in a good postion to take 2nd spot with the win over Thorney at the weekend.
I think they were favourites for second when we failed to beat them at our place. Looks like another tough year for Coates and Stilton, with Guyhirn back to full strength, Manea obviously, Farcet capable of beating anyone as they have proved and Warboys finding their feet. Who knows what will happen next year. Got to say its ended as a disappointing season for me in terms of achievment. We should have done better. Hope we can add to an already strong line up. Deffinitely going to lose a player or two and deffinitely got atleast one to add.
