With both top teams winning and none of the bottom teams picking up points the league stays the same after this weekend. How well did the top teams play? Did the results reflect the games with ortonians 5-0 winners hotpoint 4-1 winners n harrox as 4-0 winners

Wimblington had about 6 missing according to Chris.B (their better players I hope) and we rested a few. The result was our worst performance for a good little while which was still good enough for a 5-0 win, on a day where I wished I had gone to Ikea with Mrs.C

2-0 after 15 minutes and 4-0 at half-time - only goal in 2nd half was an own goal which pretty much summed it up.

Now got a REAL tough run of games coming up against Alconbury, Whittlesey & Perkins, all have whom have some fairly vocal individuals letting us know that they fancy beating us.

On the assumption that these people know what they are talking about, may I be the first to congratulate everyone at Hotpoint on their first Premier Division title, as these 3 defeats will put them even further out-of-sight than is already the case.

Oh Tommy you are a card !! Got your message from yesterday and will ring you tonight, we went our customary goal down after missing a few chances ourselves and then went 2-1 up just before half time. Got 2 more quick goals second half and that was that, played like Galactico's most of the game and keeping the pressure on.

We have arranged some foam backed seating, serving wenches and a red carpet tomorrow for Spec and any of his Galacticos that turn up to watch us in the first of the "Terrible Trio" of games we have ahead of us.

Not sure that Alconbury getting dicked last week is good for us to be honest, but we dont really worry too much about the opposition generally though Alconbury, Whittlesey & Perkins are all going to be difficult opponents worthy of our respect.

Big up (is that still trendy?) to Lawrence Derrante for getting our 4 fixtures in April arranged so that the County Cup Final on Monday May 1st is the clubs last game, and with our game with Moulton taking place on the Saturday before this one way or another we wont be going out with a whimper.

Had a chat with big Ron Atkinson last night (though he kept calling me "big un") at the Haycock, who has agreed to come to 1 of our training sessions in April - we have midweek friendlies arranged with local senior clubs - 2 linesman - a reserve team manager (who hopes to win a game soon!) - why are we folding!!!

I look forward to the hospitality Tommy, can't believe you are playing Moulton 2 days before your final and if they get through to the PFA final they will be in the same boat, ludicrous !

Spec, we also play PSL on the Wednesday before so face 3 games in 6 days but that is the price of being successful and I am not going to moan about that.

2 years ago we beat you on the Saturday to win the League (though Whittlesey beating Moulton did the job for us anyway), then the Royal Oak beat Jubilee on the Sunday with 6 Ortonians players to win the Sunday League, and then on Monday we beat Alconbury to win the PFA Cup, so this not unusual territory for me or my brave under-rated warriors.

ps: -Not been in the office for 3 days to follow up your call, but will be having a word Monday.

Just in the process of arranging a game with Cambridge United in April which along with the games against Wisbech & March should stand us in good stead for the St.Neots game.

Never a moments doubt about the outcome of our game yesterday - thought we maybe scored a little early (92nd minute). Alconbury gave us as hard a game as anyone this season and I hope they play with as much enthusiasm next week against the Galacticos.

Think that next Saturdays game for us with Whittlesey will possibly be the toughest game we have left, so it could be a key day.

heard that the whittlesey lads were on form saturaday, being 4-1 up at half time. keeping there unbeaten run going, so you are probably right tommy this one to overcome im sure they will be up for it. whittlesey sides normally are, im sure minett will get them pumped up

With next weeks game on the horizon. Does that mean that number 9 will be making another return to the forum. Long time since we came across him?

atty!

tommy, cant believe a man that is into his stats would forget that it was nags v oak in a league decider! you even blackmailed 1 of your nags players not to play with a cup final place. and anyway since when have bretton looked like they might win something?

Oops sorry Atty - yep Nags Head. I do remember suggesting to Glen Bolden that as he had not been fit to play on the Saturday I would have been surprised if he had then played on the Sunday and would have hated to have had this influence my side for the following days Senior Cup Final - thankfully Glen saw my point of view and choose not to play!

Mark, number 9 is due out at Easter apparently so not expecting to hear from him (famous last words?) - looking forward to seeing all of my dear friends from Whittlesey on Saturday. No poem this year, though I am a bit tempted after reading what they are going to do to us in the ET last night!

Don't know if I thought you a bottler or not really Tommy, how about finishing off this one !!!

Tommy went to Whittlesey
At full time he didn't linger
He'd remembered that little dig he had
About an extra finger.........

Over to you Humble Tommy

Those Whittlesey boys are on the march
Last year they were the best
Now once again they're flying high
And full of life and zest

George is no Galactico now
Just why we'll never know
But put him up front in any team
And the goals will start to flow

Butterworth's signing was very shrewd
He'll help them quite a bit
Even my good friend Ricky's back in vogue
And I know he looks quite fit

So will they avenge those 2 defeats
And throw this spanner in the title race
Or will Ortonians prove that once again
They are built to last the pace?

To last the pace you must be strong
your not aloud to go wrong.
A twist of fate is still to come !
I feel this weekend it will be done.

The winds are blowing from the Fens
the Whittlesey boys are real men.
A point to prove they can not be seen to lose.

Coppers men will go out blazing
but George will be amazing
with electric pace and skills
that will daze them.
This will be his ultimate glory
a hat trick hero that's my theory.

Rogers men will stand tall
but hey, the galacticos will make them fall
at Woodlands there will be a coronation and crowning
leaving that OLD king Copper frowning. :dsc:

Well done to Whittlesey who were deserved winners against us yesterday. At least the Hotpoint & Moulton results mean that it remains in our hands so cant be to disappointed about losing our first game in 5 months.

Whittlesey are our bogey side at home having lost 3 years running to them and on all 3 of the pitches at Campbell Drive!

They had 11 men all fully committed to winning the game whilst we only had about 6. All 3 goals were good ones yesterday including Glen Bolden's - just a shame he is not fit enough to last 90 minutes as we looked less potent when he went off.

Butterworth and Goodayle were both outstanding yesterday, and IF Lee can keep that side together they will be contenders again next year.

They were even slightly more magnaminous in victory yesterday, I think realising that overall they have not made a very good job of defending the title, which seems to happen to every side for some reason.

Onwards and upwards - bring on the next game!

thats very sporting of you tommy was at the game yesterday, and the commitment between the to sides was definatly won by whittlesey. thought that there missed chances might of cost them as they had a few in the first half. great save by timmy with the game at 1-1. was a tough start for whittlesey losing a few key players, but it is good to see that lee stuck to the task of turning the season round around and has a squad capable of showing the determination to win games and also the quality.

Makes our game against Whittlesey this Saturday a cracker. When was the last time Whittlesey lost? Was it before Xmas? Must be the most in-form side?

BLUE BOYS
27-03-2006, 15:42
it was before xmas, not sure if they are the most inform team at the moment but there results have been very good of late and that may continue.

If it was before Xmas, it was probably us then. Hopefully we will be able to do it again although i know it will be a tough game!
