what a bunch of idiots pinchbeck are then . good refs can learn players first names and pick them up during the game even if they dont know them . this is much better than refs who dont speak to players .

cause obviously by knowing a name must mean on every decision u go there way .

did they lose by anychance? not seen the paper today .

p.s what was that comment made to a ref who took offence? surely we need a few details .

I totally agree with you a ref should be allowed to communicate with players to show them respect and maybe more refs should learn to do this if they get both sides name calling equal.
Also would just like to add it was no all of pinchbeck arguing and was just one official from pinchbeck if anyone can guess who that may have been! and this was only brought up once in the match so maybe it has been made too big of a deal!

If it was to big a deal maybe the person who confronted me shouldnt have. For f***s sake,"What do you want from us refs."Maybe the problem lies with you players and officials.Lighten up.

When I refereed regularly I always found it easy to refer to players by their first name. I was however surprised when assessors used to say that you should not be too familar. What rubbish!. In my view the whole objective of the referee should be that all players, referee and spectators enjoy their day and imo if talking to players in a cival manner helps achieve this objective then I am all for it. Keep up the good work Tom.

it is a much better way to ref a game and gets you more respect but you have to be careful not to do it against an unfamiliar opposition (ie northants cup) as you will be labelled as biast!
