on reading some of the texts posted sunday football come into a couple of conversations, having played sunday football and followed it a bit. it would seam that it is in a big decline, looks like they will have to drop another division off again nxt year to make a first division. seams strange that people dont want to play as much footy as they can whilst they can, and just play on saturdays

I'm sure you've been reading Tommys posts regarding Sunday morning footy in decline?
I do think maybe the top end quality players are thinking twice before joining Sunday teams nowadays as the league is run poorly and lack of refs etc is so frustrating! Plus when one teams walks a league halfway through it you cant blame teams below losing faith and then just not bothering...
We've already discussed that the leagues would be FAR FAR better off with 4 leagues of between 10 and 12 teams, now if the PSMFL could just get this one right by putting teams into the correct leagues and making it all as even as possible I think that'd be a massive step in the right direction...
If you read back to one of the message on here I spent 2 minutes making 4 leagues based on positions as they stand, it looks a lot better than how the leagues sit currently!
lets not forget there are many players playing Sundays that dont and maybe cant play Saturdays and enjoy every minute of it... there's a small percentage that have either been let down by there own teams organisation or maybe the leagues themselves but in general I'd say the majority love their footy as much as ever and are already looking forward to next season... lets just hope the PSMFL make it a better one!
A few easy to sort things that in my opinion would make a massive difference:
More refs
Better venues/pitches 4 x leagues of 10/12 teams
A PSMFL that actually seems to care about the game

I sat on the PSMFL committee as vice chairman and it is hard work.I cared about Sunday football when i was on the committee as i had played the game and had an insight to what i thought players and clubs might want.I resigned for personal reasons but the PSMFL need committee members and young ones if i may add.BOTN, why dont you apply to join and try and help breath new life into it.It may help mate.

Tom, I'd love to join and try to help if I thought it'd make any difference...
how do you get the ball rolling (what a pun!) ???
However I've had a few run-ins with the PSMFL (Nik Titman usually!!!) so i dont think they'd be keen to have someone that doesn't grin and nod along with them all the time.. although the idea of trying to bring some sort of sense does appeal.
do you have to get voted in etc?
Any other players/managers out there that think they could help?? Surely we cant all be 100% happy with the way OUR OWN game is being run??
I'd like to add that there are some members on the PSMFL that do stirling work and are to be commended for it
it may sound a bit far fetched but i think the decline in sunday football could be down to the falling gates at posh. a few years back posh used to average about 7000-8000 minimum for every home league game and we had a thriving sunday morning league when the two different leagues combined to form one new league. now with posh struggling to get over 4000 every week we seem to have a serious shortage of players on a sunday morning.
my point is i think people now decide to play more on a saturday rather than go and watch their local team(i know i do now after 10 years of my life going to posh) and after playing on saturday are either to knackered or cant hack 2 games in 2 days whereas before there were a lot of players who took sundays very seriously but now take that into saturdays instead.
as i said a bit far fetched but it does seem like quite a coincidence.

Just write a letter to the committee and tell them you are interested to join.I was not a nod and agree man as you should say things how you see them but as its a committee then issues have to be proposed and seconded. So this doesnt stop you saying what you think it just gets you either voted for or against. The PSMFL desperately needs new life in my opinion and if people can help then please put your names forward. After all football in Peterborough belongs to the people. If things are going wrong, and they obviously are then it needs somebody new to come along and breath new life into it.In my honest opinion there are individuals on that committee who are there to not help the teams but there are far more who want to get things right and work damn hard to do this.Teams and their welfare should be paramount to the PSMFL not fines. For Gods sake, help them, dont destroy them.
How about pointing out the issues in priority order. It seems to me from reading the posts that without referees it doesn't work, so ENCOURAGING refs to get out of bed Sunday morning is probably number one.
Than what are we talking about ?
Lack of teams ?
Quality ?
Organisation of the leagues ?
Money ?
All of the above. Has there just been a general loss of enthusiasm for Sunday Football.

Priority order??
errr I think the main point is the way in which the PSMFL is run in general is the main point... Refs are a key issue but if paid well enough and not abused by both teams and the PSMFL then that should not be a prob...
I have heard of instances of refs being spied on by certain members of the PSMFL no prizes for guessing who on the PSMFL it was!!!!
The main point here is that the PSMFL really are running our game in a bad way... how many times has anyone involved in Sunday morning footy had casue to complain about the committee?? they run it more like a dictatorship (certain person in mind there....) and in my view have never considered teams well being above fines etc..
I run a lower league team and had terrible problems with a certain member of the PSMFL last year, they fined us for petty things that were not our fault, docked us points, moved our games/venues, no refs and in general made life really difficult for us and it came about just because we spoke out against the way they ran things.... the more we tried to fight our case the worse it got... I was new to managing a team and needed help, what I got was fined and red-tape to make life awkward..
Not one person on the PSMFL backed us above a certain memeber that really was being awkward and self-centred, Spineless springs to mind!
I attended several meeting and saw many people and cases dealt with in this manner.
So how many people are put of by this type of behaviour from the people that run our game, how many managers, players, refs etc cant be arsed to deal with them and decide to go elswehere?? I'd suggest this is a major factor in the decline of Sunday footy levels in P'boro.
Since then I've learnt the only way to get on is to keep your head down and mouth shut...
Is this really the way we want our Sunday football to go?? it's halfway there already..

which pitch at whittlesey, same problem as most places nobody wants to know. to many games played on the pitches and they just get ripped udp i enjoy my sunday footy and will b playing on nxt season whatever or though some say i shouldnt
Just thought I would make everyones day by announcing
I'll still be refereeing on Sunday Mornings next season.
At the end of the day I enjoy the majority of games I referee on Sunday mornings. When i am injured or during the close season Sundays feel a little empty without football !!

nice to hear paul......may i say whats all this lack of enthusiasum? not seen one game where players turn up and cant be bothered to play .
Lads we covered all this last year and came to the same conclusion then, the Sunday morning commitee had potentially the best set of people they possibly have ever had about 3 years ago. Paul Clarke, not the best communicator and in my opinion too shy to be a Chairman but a completely dedicated and tireless worker, Tommy Flynn a Vice Chairman who to put it politely has more than enough gob on him to make up for Mr Clarke's shyness and without a doubt was a respected voice of clubs and players quite simply because he has been there and done it as a player and manager of Sunday football and knows what people want in an organisation, Keith and Maureen Priddis, Lawrence and Lil Derrante, Alison Cameron etc of which the last 5 names were equally as passionate in their quest to keep Sunday football running to the same standard if not better than the previous commitee's before them.
And then for some ludicrous reason, perhaps Mr Clarke should answer this one, xxxxxxxx gets voted on as acting secretary. This then leads to a mass resignation of everybody I have mentioned above apart from the Chairman.
This happened 3-4 years ago and lo and behold the Peterborough Sunday Morning League has been in freefall ever since, coincidence ?? I don't think so. He was a xxxxxxxx ref, I would put my house on it that he has never even played the game before, and here he is calling the shots over every club affiliated to the PFA.
And before I get accused of having a grudge against the bloke by anybody on the present commitee, I would be quite prepared to sit down in front of them all and openly give them enough FACTS to back up everything I say about him.
Now there's something for them to discuss at their silly meetings.
xxxxxxxx moderated. Happy for you to repost with the phrase "in my opinion" in front of it !!! [Paul]

Spec.... well said mate..
I've not been doing this long enough to know who was on board 3 or 4 years back and how things were then (to busy playing) but it does sound strange how they could lose so many great people on the PSMFL after one man joins....!!!
How can that certain person have had such a negative impact without something being done about it???
I've not heard 1 vote of confidence for the guy from anyone I've spoken to and he cetrtainly gets ripped apart on here!!!
I suppose most just keep their heads down and say nothing because they (or rather he) can make things difficult if you speak out????
I know we've suffered previously when crossing his path, and felt isolated from any community that might have stood up with us... I gotta admit we took the easy option and just shut up and now keep quite - to much hassle otherwise, I suppose thats part of the problem eh?
As I said before, its a massive shame really.. who knows he may change after reading all this lot (I'm sure he does and if not it'll be relayed to him etc..) ?
whats this?? we have no ref next week and owe £20 for late arrival of results sheet, dated 2003?
I guess that now is probably not the best time to apply for a team to be entered into the PSMFL ?
We have a load of players who want to play but as I understand it need to guarantee a ref for home games on THAT pitch at Whittlesey. I guess the one we are refering to is the Manor, it's a council pitch which we supplied 20 bags of sand for last season just to get the games played. And ended up draining the goal mouths.
That's how he works though back of the net, we had the same problems with him at The Three Horseshoes and he knew you couldn't take it too far or else he would get back at you xxxxxxxxx.
Doesn't bother me now what I say because I am not involved Sundays anymore and xxxxxxxxxx like him won't stop me telling the truth.
Funny thing is though The Horseshoes were told they could put a side in division 1 this season and then he told them at the 11th hour that they couldn't because of previous problems he had with the club regarding illegal approaches of players and nicking players from one particular side (that he wouldn't name) which nearly resulted in this side not being able to complete their fixtures. Well I was joint manager with Johnny Hastings and I think we only signed 2 players all year after the season had started !! Plus our secretary was none other than the Honourable Mr Chambers and you could bet your last dollar that he wouldn't have been involved in any of that sort of carry ons.
