CHATTERIS TOWN RESERVES 2
WHITTLESEY UNITED RESERVES 7
Whittlesey were in rampant mood this evening as they swept aside Chatteris Town 7-2 at West Street.
The lads were in fine form tonight and took the lead early on after a period of sustained pressure. Micky Burch stole a yard on his marker and managed to push home to open the scoring and give Whittlesey the lead. Whittlesey could have added further goals but three goal line clearances kept the vistors at bay. It was soon 2-0 though when Micky Burch rose to head home a corner and add his second and Whittlesey's second of the evening.
Whittlesey were now in the fifth gear and a tremendous team goal made it 3-0 after only 20 minutes, after some fine interplay between Matty Heron and Lee Baker, Micky Burch found space and delivered a 40 yard ball over the Chatteris defender to the feet of Paul Hibbins who chested down and set himself to add to Whittlesey's lead.
After a ten minute spell when we took our foot of the gas, Chatteris found a way back into the game when their young striker found space in the box and smashed home a great shot to reduce the arrears.
Despite a couple more chances, Whittlesey failed to increase the numeric advantage and went into the break 3-1 up.
Soon after the break it was 4-1 though when Matty Heron majestically strolled forward and placed a shot beyond the Chatteris keeper. Paul Hibbins made it 5-1 soon after and Stefan Green made it 6-1 after an energetic burst into the home box. Chatteris's dogged display was rewarded when they grabbed a goal back to make it 6-2. With moments remaining Whittlesey made it 7-2 when Hibbins banged in his hat trick and 49th of the season!
So a tremendous victory but what was more pleasing was the performance, we were fantastic tonight and at times the lads played some terrific football that the opposition simply couldn't handle. All the lads were brilliant tonight with some big performances out there. Long way still to go and a lot to play for, we have some tough encounters coming up but i have every confidence in the lads.
Home fixture this weekend against Stamford Bels who are down an the bottom fighting for survival, so we will be a tough battle Saturday with both teams looking for the points!
Here's hoping for another three points this weekend!!!
