Hello all, for the last couple of months I have enjoyed reading a lot of the threads added onto this site especially the Saturday football stuff...I think this is a great site and a very good way of talking about football! Many of the people on this site are fantastic and extremely funny so keep up the good work!
I have never felt the need to actually join or even start a topic as I play football on a Saturday in the UCL league and therefore felt I had no excuse to put my pennies worth in...however recently my Sunday league side has come into some criticism from certain people involved in this site so I felt it only fair to add a little bit and as the title says "set the record straight"!!

As you may recently have read...we have just got into another cup final in the Hunts cup, our 3rd final in 4 years! Firstly I would like to say, for a small village side playing against many teams with a much greater selection field for players...this is a great achievement!
I have heard a bit of a rumour that a Sunday league manager has recently been critisisingng our team and manager for what he says is playing ringers to get to a final!
The player in question is a good friend of mine called Danny...who I would just like to say is a great player but also a local lad to our village!! Danny unfortunately is a student at Liverpool and therefore a) is not available every week b)doesn't have the money to return every week to play for us (which in his words "devastates him!"). Recently he scored 4 goals in a game to send us through to the final...this of course gave ammunition to people to start calling us a one player team and use players only for cup games!!!!

Firstly this is so incorrect that I feel I need to mention the true facts.

Yes Danny came back for our semi final...he also came back and played in the 1/4 final but only scored 2 in our 11-0 win!!! For those who say he only plays in cup games...no very wrong...he has played in more league games this season that cup games (yes he's only played in 2 cup games) but remember how difficult it is for a student to get back from uni to play every week...he has made about 4 league appearances and always played well for us! Not to mention the games we will play over his half terms etc!

Secondly we have been accused of playing a different team for the cup games...again totally incorrect!!

From our side in the first cup (2004) win against a very good side called chequers (they changed their name) who had a few sat prem players in at the time, we have had 4 new faces in, Danny who at the time was playing for Yaxley 18's and couldn't play and also a lad called Ash who would have only been 15ish. Also a striker called Paul who is in his 3rd season now and our keeper Gavin who is in our second (both played in last yrs final)! Also we play this team week in week out in our league games (with exception of Danny) That is it...the rest for the players all played in the first cup final and all league games since then) all our players do or have lived in Sawtry and are all good mates with each other!!

This is what angers me about people who make comments about things they really do not have a clue about and why I felt I needed to try explain the situation!

Sorry its an essay, but I hope you can all see I have only tried to explain the situation and back up my team (whom i've played for for 8yrs and am only 24 for) and not try to .

I do not know many of you who come on this as I have never played a good enough standard to meet many of you and likewise I’m sure none of you know me and my team-mates as Sawtry is a bit middle of nowhere!!

Thanks Harbs, hopefully we can get a few other players from the lower sunday mornings teams to have some disscussions!!

Also without being too much of a brown nose...have watched Eye play against sawtry and am very impressed with what i saw...its great that the League 2 is so competitive and full of very good players! I know a lot of the Stilton lot and expected them to run away with it, however has been good to see how close it all is!! Good luck to all the teams in the chase!

Very true notbothered, however this is a forum to put points across which is all i have done, sorry it puts you to sleep!

Also thanks for the tip...very kind of you to point it out!!

Your point is only valid to you and your second rate town. When your big time like Burghly people might care!

Exactly my point, people don't care about Sawtry...we understand that and really don't mind, however we are still part of the Peterborough league and therefore i have every right to voice my opinions!!

I seem to remember you played in our league not too long ago, not very impressive considering you are a stamford side!! However fair play to how you are doing now, its good to see a side progress so well!

However notbothered i would like to point out the fact we are actually a village and not a town and therefore our team has a very small area to pick up players and would never get to the high heights you and your team have!

Best of luck with rest of your season and very nice to see you haven't got a bit to big for your own boots :whs:!!

Sawtry FC-firstly congratulations on the final!
secondly- Not every1 is like notbothered and for the leagues to be successful they need teams from all places including Sawtry!
lastly- The more success you have the more people will tell you how to run your club!

Notbothered don't think people are any more bothered about your club because I'm sure there not!!!!!!

well done Sawtry for reaching the final....
out of interest how many league games has your man in question played??
I guess you cant blame the losing side for feeling a little miffed that your guy (good player i gather?) turns up for your cup run but not often in the league!!!
Nice essay setting the record straight though..

Thank you to both Number 9 and BOTN firstly, we are a small village side and any final we reach is a great achievement no matter how small the cup is!

BOTN, i must admit danny has only played about 4 league games (5 today) and 2 cup games but from our point of view we do want to try play our best layers for any semi final, especially as we were completely hammered against Cherry tree in the Peterborough semi 2 weeks before!

We can't blame the losing side for feeling a little annoyed about it, however i'm sure if they had a similar player who couldn't get back every week they would have done the same thing! Danny is a good player, however he isn't someone who can win us a game straight out, as today proved, but his pace is something that we greatly miss at times.

Hope this helps explain a few things!

Sawtry FC- you don't need to explain who plays for what game if a players eligible that's it! Your manager picks the side not the local rag or the other teams manager! who was it you beat?

Sawtry FC
16-03-2008, 13:50
He was definately eligible, he has been signed on from the start of the season.

We beat The Office who are in a league below us and i must say played very well, hence why i can understand they would be a little frustrated with it.

On that note, its good to see that the league below us has 3 or 4 very good side that will make ours and the league above us very close next season, We've played Rileys and went through after extra time, and i also hear Thomas Cook has a strong side! Its nice to see all of the Sunday leagues are tight this year!

Sawtry you dont have to explain anything mate, I was just curious thats all...
Dean would not play any eligble players I'm sure so i doubt anyone thinks that fos a second! I think the point is that The Office obviously feel a bit gutted that better players seem to make it for the cup run for ya and not usually in the league, I admit I do share that feeling to a degree but if it's within the rules then it's your business!!
Good luck in the final

BOTN-Can't understand why u or the office side that lost have the issue, if 1 player who IS eligible but cannot commit every week plays 5-10 league games n all the cup ones so be it! As far as I'm concerned if he's a local lad and played for a little while but unfortunatly has now got other commitments so can't attend every week why not make the weeks when you can attend be big games! I'm sure you would never do it BOTN!

SAWTRY fair play its not as if you playd a ringer!

eh?? I just said that I can understand why the Office would be gutted about it and I would feel the same if it happened against us, whats wrong with that?
And no I wouldnt do it Number9, I'd not play a lad that isn't available every week as it's not fair to those that are, who would I drop and how would they feel etc??? not something I'd do and never have, if they aint available every week then I dont sign em - simple!
anyway as I said - Good luck Sawtry..

Thanks BOTN, i do understand and agree that they would be slightly annoyed with it all, but i'm sure a number of teams would do exactly the same sort of thing. Anyway i have said my part and got it off my chest so now we can concentrate on the rest of our season. Best of luck with the season BOTN.

Number 9 - Thank you for your words and i wish you all the luck with your 3 finals and the league, i'm sure you will pull it off! Good luck!

to "not bothered" who thinks Lord Burghley are big time. Just remembered your comments on here where I've seen the ET comments on Lord B's fines, point deductions and stripping of the cup..... Just made me laugh. :)
